Prologue

“Boom” Another explosion. The fire sizzled, devouring the last bit of my pack. I listened as pierced screams filled my ear. The fire mercilessly swept across the land, like an orange dragon, breathing balls of fire, engulfing any signs of life. I watched as black smoke floated in the air, choking me slowly.More houses started to collapse, creating heaps of mess. I was petrified, witnessing my packhouse being burned to the ground. I coughed involuntarily and felt my eyes start to water due to the burning. Lifeless bodies covered the whole ground, blood soaked the grass, the scene was horrific.“Mum… Where are you?”I couldn’t hide my fear, I circled the pack ground, desperately trying to find a living soul. What just happened? My eyes finally landed on a figure lying near the pack house door. She had the same blond hair as me, and emerald eyes that were once filled with warmth and affability were now hollow as ever. Her once beautiful face was now stained with blood and dirt, barely r

Chapter 1

(Layana’s pov)I could feel a pair of hands shaking my shoulders vigorously. “Wake up Layana! Wake up! It’s your birthday today!” I opened my bleary eyes, adjusting to the sunlight seeping through the windows. I turned to see a very keen Faria standing next to my bed. Faria was my best friend and we were the same age. She had silky brunette hair. Her eyes were ocean-blue, and with high cheekbones, she looked absolutely stunning. We were as close as real sisters. Although sometimes she could be a bit too energetic, I still loved her dearly.I lifted my head to check the time. 7:30 am. I groaned, “Dude, it’s only 7:30 am, stop and let me stay in bed a little longer.” With that, I laid back again and closed my eyelids. “No! We have a lot of shopping to do today. We also have to go out and have dinner. PLUS TODAY IS PROBABLY THE DAY YOU WILL FIND YOUR MATE. Just wake up!” Without any warning, she tore away my blanket. I immediately lost the warmth and comfort. I knew she wouldn’t let me

Chapter 2

(Layana’s pov) We drove for about an hour, arriving at a fine dining restaurant. I was awed. I didn’t expect her to give me such a big surprise. The restaurant had two levels and was decorated luxuriously, there was a chandelier hanging down the ceiling at the entrance. She led us into the restaurant. “Hi, how may I help you?” asked the waitress. “We reserved a table for two under the name Castro,” Faria replied. “Ok, this way please.” The waitress showed us our way. The atmosphere was really quiet, and the environment was dimly lit, with only a few other guests around us, making this place look extra fancy. I skimmed through the menu, the price was exorbitant. “What will you order?” I whispered. “I will get the lobster pasta, I heard it’s one of the chef’s recommendations here.” She whispered back. “Don’t worry, just order whatever you want, just get something similar for me on my birthday,” she added jokingly. I rolled my eyes. And ordered a roasted chicken. While wait

Chapter 3

(Layana’s pov) I heard his low growl, which I found to be enticing. Ok, what am I thinking about? I scolded myself. I could feel his grasp on my shoulder tighten. “You’re my mate.” He replied, his voice a bit furious maybe because of my previous response. “Erm, Mister, I believe you have a mistake, I don’t think I have a mate,” I replied nervously, trying to avert my gaze. “Stop denying, YOU ARE MY MATE.” He roared, causing me to flinch. I closed my eyes, not daring to see what was going to happen next. The plates clatter onto the ground, disrupting the silence. I could feel his hands relax a bit, and I could feel his deep breathing as he was trying to calm himself down. “You will come with me to my pack.” He demanded. I turned my head to Faria, mouthing Help me! Faria understood immediately. “Mr. I don’t think she wants to go with you, now you better let her go before I scream for help.” Faria sent him a threatening look. “Don’t you dare1” I watched as he curled his fists.

Chapter 4

(Layana’s pov) I tried ignoring his presence, admiring the scene outside, which only succeeded for the first few minutes. Eventually, he started talking. “So what’s your name?” His tone had calmed down already, and through the reflection on the window, I could see that his body no longer looked that tense, his muscles had relaxed, and his brows were no longer furrowed. I had to admit he’s attractive. “Layana Yarrow,” I replied curtly. There was an awkward pause after my response. I guessed he might have expected a longer answer, but I didn’t know what else I should say. “I am Kendric Remington, alpha of Rivecourt Pack. But you can call me Kendric.” He responded coldly. I nodded slightly. I could feel his intense stare at me. But I pretended not to notice this. “So is it your birthday today?” I simply nodded. “Can you look at me when I am talking to you,” he gritted his teeth. “What? Am I supposed to show affection to my kidnapper, alpha?” I said sarcastically. “You’d better

Chapter 5

(Layana’s pov)I could feel the blazing fire, the filthy air. There were lifeless bodies all over the ground. There were even limbs on the floor and headless bodies. Some of the members couldn’t shift back to their wolf form and remain human till the last breath. Some of the wolves were still whimpering, struggling to stay awake. I ran towards them, shaking them violently, trying to bring them back, to no avail. I searched aimlessly for a living soul, but the blood-curdling scene in front of me proved to me otherwise. That’s when I heard my mum’s scream. I ran towards her, only to see that she was being strangled by a person who was hidden behind a cloak. I dashed towards her, but before I could yell at him, an arm was wrapped around my neck, suffocating me. I could no longer see clearly, everything turned blurry, and I could feel the blood rushing up my head. I could feel my kidnapper’s breath fanning my neck, making me flinch. “Got you,” he said sinisterly, before biting my neck.I

Chapter 6

(Kendric’s pov)“I am sure you will find her again soon,” my Beta, Marcel, tried to calm me down after I lost my mate’s trail at the mall. I was so frustrated. For three whole years, I had been searching for her, and just when I thought I could finally find my Luna, she escaped right in front of my eyes. I huffed out annoyedly and kept my eyes on the road. We were heading to an Alpha pack meeting now. The restaurant slowly came into view, and my wolf Kieran howled excitedly. What’s wrong? I tried talking to my wolf, but he ignored my question. I took a deep breath and calmed him down, I couldn’t let him lose control right here. Marcel and I entered the restaurant, and a sweet rose mixed with fresh summer air scent wafted by. I abruptly turned my head towards a table where two girls were sitting, my eyes were fixed on the one who caught my attention the moment my eyes laid on her. She had dirty blond hair, grey eyes, and a beautiful smile. My wolf screamed jubilantly Mate! It’s our ma

Chapter 7

(Kendric’s pov) Berna was wearing a deep V-neck backless red dress that didn’t even reach her knees. The red dress hooked her curves perfectly, she looked gorgeous, but not even comparable to Layana. She had always thought that she would be my Luna, but I knew from the start that she was not the Luna of my pack. I’d slept with her a few times before because I had to find a release for desires. I knew this was not fit for an alpha, and I should be loyal to my mate, but I was just too tired of waiting.I loosened my tie and draped my coat on the seat next to my desk. Berna stood up and walked seducingly to my desk. She swayed her hips along the way and flicked her hair before sitting on my desk. Having met Layana, my wolf growled in disapproval at the sight of Berna flirting and felt disgusted towards her behavior. I walked towards the desk, contemplating whether I should tell her to leave or not.Berna, not knowing that I had found my Luna already, decided to play on. She leaned forwar
