Mia I jolt awake to splash of ice cold water making contact with my warm skin and ripping me from my dreams. Looking up I see my perpetrator and best friend Bailey giggling, and holding a now half-emptied bucket. “Wake up loser! MiaTrudging down the hall I hear kitchen cabinets being open and closed. I turn the corner to see my brother and dad perusing the empty cabinets searching for something easy to eat. The turn when I chuckle at them. Jason smirks before giving me a hug. “Sis! Glad you’re back. This guy has been kicking my ass. Any chance you want to do a round with him tomorrow?” “Sure why not, now do you guys want me to cook or are you going to keep staring at the instant maccaroni like it’ll cook itself?” I laugh. “It’s good to see you’re back” says dad his eyes twinkling before he guestures for me to step in and help. “By all means work your magic!” I look at my options before settling on spaghetti and meat sauce as the most viable option. Light pokes in through the shutters and I stretch as a satisfying yawn rolls off my lips. A restful, satisfying sleep. Then it hit me…my conversation with dad last night. Austin (not going to call him Alpha) wants me to be his Luna. Also while he has a girlfriend?! He really has gone off his rocker. He has a mate out there somewhere. I have a mate out there somewhere. There is no way the Alphas will agree to this. My 18th birthday isn’t for another two months. Austin is 18 himself so he would know if we were mates by now and his lack of self-control I highly doubt he’d keep that a secret this long. I’d expect him to tell me the very instant and have already demanded I move in with him. I wake up to the smell of pancakes and roll over to check my alarm clock. F*ck I slept in. Great mom is going to be pissed. “Mia! Come down stairs and eat.” When I don’t respond the sharp clicking of heels on the hall floor tells me if I’m not up in five seconds my ass is fried. I throw back the covers and meander to my dresser and grab a pair of black leggings and matching black sports bra. The door swings open and there stands my mother in a huff. She had a right to be flustered. Today was no ordinary day. Today was going to change everything, I could feel it. The pack members would already be at the training grounds by the pack house to set up for tonight’s fight. “Mia we don’t have time for this, come downstairs and eat so we can go help. It’s your father’s fight and he would want us to set a good example.” I didn’t argue, she was right I shouldn’t have slept in. And I could not begin to imagine how she must be feeling knowing her mate would be fighting to the death tonight.
