Eve sat atop a huge boulder, her feet dangling into the lake water below her. Little waves encircled the shallow water, covering an assortment of colored stones. Looking up, she saw she couldn't see the rainbow of stones a few meters ahead of her. She looked at the dark tree line across the lake after a time. She pondered what animals lurked there and if they were bothered by her intrusion into their domain. She should go just in case, because she doesn't want to be impolite. She sighed and stood up on the rock, raising her hands up above her, a pleasant snap resonating from her spine. That was incredible. She leaned down and picked up her brown leather sandals before turning to face the dirt road behind her. The covered and rocky route would take her pack to the wood log cottage on the outskirts of the woods. She resided here with her mother, Marie. With her sandals still dangling by her side, Eve went carefully back home, her gaze fixed on the ground, terrified of stumbling on jagge

Eve and her mother sneaked into the dining hall through a side entrance just a few minutes before six o'clock, being very wary of the Alpha's stringent timeline. After finishing up in the kitchen and ensuring that all of Joanne's tasks from them had been completed, Eve and her mother entered the dining hall. They moved quickly to locate the seats that had been allotted to them at the far-left end of the room, at the end of one of the four long tables that extended the length of the structure.Warrior pack members and essential pack members sat closer to the front of the room, while lesser-ranked pack members such as Eve and her mother sat at the rear of the room. The further one sat in the room, the lower one's rank. It was considered a privilege to be seated in close proximity to the pack leaders and their families. For this reason, the most powerful members of the pack were assigned seats at the head of the long tables. There, they would occasionally engage in conversation with the

Eve slowly rocked back onto her heels as she wiped the sweat off her forehead before turning her attention to the orderly row of tomato plants that she had just planted in her thriving garden. Considering that she had only started gardening a little more than a year ago, she was extremely pleased with how well it was coming along. Over the course of that period of time, it had developed into a reliable source of fresh produce, as well as a safe haven for her to retreat to when she needed to get away from the rest of the world. She enjoyed nothing more than sneaking away to her own private paradise at the end of a long day. In addition, today was a particularly exhausting and hectic day. Because one of the kitchen assistants had called in sick the night before, she had gotten up early to assist Joanne in preparing breakfast on the day after she had gone to bed. After that, she made a detour to the day care center to hand off some cookies that she had hidden in order to avoid Joanne's d

Eve was not able to lift herself up on her shaky arms and get to her feet until several hours later, when the moon was hanging high in the sky beside the sparkling stars. Only then was she able to pull herself to a standing position. She struggled to find her footing in the dark and hoped without hope that she was moving in the right direction to get back home. Her brain was in such a state of disarray that she was unable to truly absorb and understand where she was or where she needed to be. Her eyes were blurred from the tears, which caused her to trip over a tree branch and fall to the ground after taking only a dozen steps further in the direction she was going. She wailed even louder as the force that had broken her fall caused her hands and knees to be in excruciating pain. She has begun to pull herself forward along the uneven ground, unable to stand up again. It was a pathetic attempt at an army crawl, though. After only travelling, she stopped and rolled over to stare up at t

Eve groaned and rolled over to snuggle down under her blanket. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally brought up the painful memory of being turned down. As she reflected on what had transpired the day before, she was overcome with excruciating pain.It is not possible for our souls to ever become one.“Please no! Aaaaaaah!” She let out a scream just as a searing and piercing pain began to radiate from her chest and spread throughout her body. As soon as the door flew open, her mother and Joanne rushed into the room to keep Eve close while they waited for the intensity of the pain to lessen.Eve was finally able to take a few deep breaths and turn around to face her mother after an hour had passed. They were both in tears and their eyes were filled with hurt as they simply stared at each other without speaking. Joanne finally opened her mouth a few moments later.“Eve, please come with us so that we can get you something to eat and drink.” You have to keep your strength up an

The three women spent the next few days gathering the essential supplies that Eve might require in the coming days. They came to the conclusion that the best course of action would be for Eve to visit the Three Mountain pack and have a conversation with Alpha Ian, who was a distant cousin. They had high hopes that he would be able to take Eve in, but they were unable to ask him in advance for fear that word would get back to their own Alpha before Eve had the chance to leave. Instead, Marie and Joanne had written a letter of introduction to Alpha Ian, asking him to give Eve a place to stay and support her while she dealt with the rejection.During this time, Eve started to say her farewells, despite the fact that she wished she could do it in an appropriate manner. Instead, she made a stealthy visit to the childcare center for the very last time, this time bringing a bag stuffed with candies with her. As she left the building for the final time, she had to carefully wipe her eyes in o

Eve ran through the forest, laboring to catch her breath as the wind blew the trees in front of her, and stumbling here and there due to the uneven terrain. The howls of the patrol wolves could be heard from behind her, and they were getting louder and louder as time went on. It was imperative that she increased her rate of movement, or else she would be discovered and severely punished. Imprisoned. Whipped. Starved. And who was to say what else lay in store for her if she was caught by the wolves that were giving chases at that very moment? Eve was adamant that she would not allow that to take place, so she pushed herself harder and harder to go faster and get closer to the border between their pack and the human town. It appeared as though she was unable to take in sufficient air because her legs were on fire and her chest was heaving. In spite of the fact that she was moving faster, she was still being pursued by something that made a sound like paws hitting the ground. Louder and
