Surprise and a Pack for You

A few days later, the first visit of officials to the pack’s lands was arriving. Rob and Becky were helping Jane Ann and Jon with the final preparations. Grace was busy setting up new equipment so that she could start recording broadcasts for various organizations and the internet media sites she maintained.Bart would not make the meeting until later in the afternoon because his Alpha summoned him to a face-to-face meeting in town. He wouldn’t enter Rob’s domain, but he would enter the town. Bart made his way into town and found the Justiciar with his security team animatedly chatting up the waitress at the diner. Bart stood there and watched his usually sober and formal leader laugh and joke with the human female. All he could do was wonder what the world was coming to.“Well, it’s about time you got here, Bart. Come sit. The little lady here says the pie is to die for.” Ian Lucas of the Indigo Dawn Pack sat there at the table chatting up the waitress.

Plans Coming Together

“Alright, we have our teacher working on a simple overview lesson on our history. She says that it should be ready by morning, and she’ll deliver it to the guests in the morning when it’s time. I have a list of various positions with the pack that most humans wouldn’t be familiar with. This will include a brief job description. It’s so difficult to define a specific duty to one particular position, though.” Jon turned from his laptop and looked over his desk at his mate sitting there with her phone in her hand. He didn’t know how she coped with using such a small screen, but she did. “No, it’s not. You’re just looking at it from the inside and not the outside. Yes, some duties bleed over, but there’s a hierarchy and you need to keep that in mind when you’re writing. If anyone asks why there’s so much bleed through of duties, just explain it’s because of various reasons.” She didn’t even look up as she spoke to him. Her eyes and fingers didn’t stop working. She was ma

Alpha Hebbs is Here

Bart stopped his vehicle at the front gates of Rob’s territory. Crap. He couldn’t enter now because of the bloody papers on the passenger seat beside him. That and as soon as Rob encountered him, he’d figure out something was different. Sure, Bart carried the alpha blood before, but it wasn’t connected to a pack’s leadership or territory. He could feel the difference already after going through all the formalities. His boss insisted it happen now. He’d not had an option because the Lycan needed stability. Yet they didn’t know whether they were pack orientated. Everyone just assumed they were, because most were wolf shifters before this. He prayed he wasn’t getting in over his head. Heck, he knew he was in over his head. “Hey Bart. What’s up? Your meeting goes well? Oh, wow. I’ll get the Alpha on the line.” The guard at the gate that came to meet him was the same as when he left only three hours ago. A lot had changed since then. He neede

There's Always an Interruption

Rob dragged himself from his bed when the alarms went off and his phone blew up with messages. “Now what’s wrong?” Becky sat up on her elbow and looked blurry eyed at Rob. “Are we being attacked again? They accounted for all the Lycan, hadn’t they?” “Yes, but this time it’s not the Lycan. There’s a breach in our southern border. It looks like it’s the rogues Bart came here chasing. “Looks like our afternoon nap will have to become an evening nap. I need to deal with this.” “I guess we’re all going back to the room in the basement?” Becky sighed as she made to get out of the bed. She didn’t look forward to going down there and listening to all the complaints. Sure, she understood now it was her job as Rob’s mate to deal with the complaints, but some of them were just foolish and petty. Becky wasn’t sure what they thought those complaints would achieve at this point. “No, it’s far enough away and there can’t be that many. I just need to be th

Rogue Cleanup

Rob got a call from Bart and thankfully he’d put Bart’s information into his contact list because right now he wouldn’t have known who it was. “Bart, where are you? I’m a little busy with a rogue breach going on.” “I heard, well, things are a little complicated and I’m stuck outside your territory until you give me permission as one alpha to another.” “What are you talking about? You had permission to come and go as you needed this morning.” “Yeah, but not as an alpha of another pack.” “What pack? Was that what the meeting was about?” “Looks like there are Lycan ready to be released, but they need an alpha. The position was between Jon and me. They figured they didn’t want to break up the two of you since you worked so well together. So I got stuck with it. Before you ask, no, I didn’t get a choice. It’s a rare command from the Ruling Council.” “I’d say congratulations, but we’ll save that for later. Hand the phon

Entertaining Human Curiosity

Sure enough, the time Rob dreaded was here. The humans were at the gate, and it was as uncomfortable as he expected it to be. Enforcers greeted them at the gate and escorted them in to the packhouse where he and his command staff. Jane Ann and Jon did a great job of getting a variety of pack members involved in taking small groups about showing the humans how they lived, and describing how they worked together as a community. They’d grouped up the different interests of the humans so that they saw exactly what would interest them the most. Like medical professionals visiting the healing centre. Then learning about how they combined science and different types of magic to deal with medical issues. Law enforcement met with enforcers and talked shop while learning about different procedures for dealing with certain types of supernatural crimes and perpetrators. Which led Rob to explain why their jail was so full of young wolves. They’d been br

Rob and Becky Assess Their Life

Over the next few days, several groups of humans came through the pack’s territory to learn more about their neighbours and understand their way of life. They were the talk of the news all over the world. Reports were mixed, from welcoming to outright hostile. Rights groups versus supremacist groups vied on talk shows and in the streets during protests. Even the churches stepped in with their views of these events. The misinformation flew far and wide. They portrayed the Lycans no less like the other supernatural creatures. As news leaked about how the test subjects were treated, their image changed from a raging monster to misunderstood victims. By then, several countries were trying to remove the supernatural element from their population. Many were shocked and dismayed at how far these monsters insinuated themselves within different countries’ economy and political structures worldwide. It wasn’t just hunting them down or banning them from participating i

New Territory Assessment

Bart’s life took a turn the day after the first humans went through Rob’s territory. He’d been put on the spot several times when he was asked, as the leader of the Lycans, would they run their pack the same way? Or how do the Lycans feel about this or that? It was one question after another that he couldn’t answer. It was a very humbling experience, and it enlightened him on how much he didn’t know about his future people or their needs. Now he was touring the cleanup of the town. They removed the innocent families of the human employees from their homes. Sadly, they couldn’t stay. There were no jobs for them, and it was awkward for them when they entered the town. Many felt guilty about what their family members took part in. Others were angry. The Ruling Council paid them handsomely to leave. They could relocate wherever they wanted, and many returned to places where they had family. Hectric had done nothing to foster true loyalty in their staff or the families of th

Grace Gets Her Dream Job

“Sir, you say that a werewolf in the Klondike State Forest attacked you? I have here a listing of the closest wolf shifter packs and I have found none. Werewolves don’t exist. Are you sure it wasn’t a bear, fox, or coyote? Wolves don’t exist within this state forest, either. A wolf shifter pack would be extremely noticeable within its borders. How did you know it was a shifter, rather than a natural wild animal? Did they shift and take you to the hospital? Apologize? I’m sorry, sir, but shifters don’t bite if they can avoid it. What did you do to make this creature, wild or shifter, feel like they were in danger? After all, this is a state forest. You’re the invading species in that environment, after all.” Grace’s job now was to shed light on the spins humans put to their stories.Networks and various programs were begging her to come onto their shows because she made for great ratings. She finally didn’t have to pull any punches and do her job. Grace researched the people a

Mating Ceremony Planning Begins

“It’s not a wedding ceremony. There’s no handing off the bride like you’re loaning out or giving away an unwanted hunting dog.” Becky, Jane Ann, Jon, and Rob sat at a dining table, and they’d just started working out the plans for a joint mating ceremony. “Wow. That’s a new way to look at a wedding ceremony.” Jane Ann couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Historically speaking, they were using a religious blessing to make it okay to pass a woman from one man to another as an object. Though when humans talk about things like this, they use cattle instead of hunting dogs. It’s weird sounding, but true.” Becky had been after all married before and her father had given her away. “I understand how the hand off at the beginning of the ceremony is representative of handing over an object rather than a human being. They could be anything really at that point. Heck, it’s called giving the bride away and my father said he was proud and honoured to do it back then.”
