Prologue

“I’ll be on offense if only my life is threatened, but now that both of our lives are in danger, I’ll be on defense. I won’t let anyone to hurt you again. I fear no one and never will. They want to whack me? There’s no fucking way! A bat and a knife won’t help them, so they will have to use gun against me, but it’s no use either.” He smiled as if it would convince me to calm down. I couldn’t do anything, but to watch him on my arms in pain. His clothes were bloodied and torn. How could I even calm myself? The amount of blood he had been coughing up made me feel so worried. “You bastard! You can’t die!” I cried so desperately. “Don’t cry, little fire,” he mumbled, trying to take away my fear. Just as he gazed intently into my eyes, giving me a strong assurance, he added, “I might die, but I won’t die like this.”

Chapter 1

It was cold, but his eyes were colder than ice that I had never imagined. He was gentle before, caring, and the most endearing man I had ever known, but in just a blinked of an eye, he changed. I couldn’t help myself, but to cry because of the sudden pain I felt on my chest. My heart was pounding so hard and I didn’t know how long could I bear the feeling.“What’s wrong?” I asked him softly. He was clenching his fist, eyes were as sharp as sword.“Let’s just break up.”One short sentence and were over.I started to feel numb. Saying those words were really easy for him. It’s written all over his face. His expressions said it all. But it was nothing, but like a stab on my chest until I couldn’t breath.Surprised, I tried to reach his hands and asked, “Why? What’s... what’s the matter, Rygel? Why all of a sudden? I can’t understand. What do you mean?”It was cle

Chapter 2

That very moment, it felt like I was with some arrogant jerk than an armed kidnapper. I wasn’t fantasizing over him as though I couldn’t deny that he was definitely a good-looking badass.“I’m sorry,” I apologized anyway. He could still kill me whenever he wanted if I tried to make an argument. But I wasn’t really drooling over him!“Why?” he mused. “Are you wondering why am I not wearing any mask?”Among the men inside, he was the only one who bravely revealed his face to me. Who would he fear anyway?“No.” I shook my head and tried to avoid his gaze. “I’m really sorry—”“Hey, woman!” It was not long before a guy in the passenger seat suddenly butted in. “Aren’t you scared?” he asked, laughing with others, except Thalem.“Yeah?

I smirked inside my head. Should I thank him for stopping him or not for he would just delay my death? Now or later, it was the same. They would kill me anyway.“Oh, is it?” Dominique mumbled as he grinned at my face. “Lucky little angel,” he gasped, then pushed me hard against the wall as he threw the gun at one of his comrades.“Be sure not to let her escape from here,” he ordered before he stepped out of the mansion with a pack of armed men.I crumpled in fear. As I clutched my face and I breathed heavily, I felt a sudden relief.“Everyone, get back to your stations!” Thalem commanded once more and everyone went off. It was not long before I noticed that my nose and mouth had blood in which gave me reason to sob in frustration. I could feel my temples throbbed and my body felt really tired.

Chapter 4

Barefooted, I silently followed him as we made our way downstairs. We had been on the top floor down to the living room, then to the private dining area exclusively for two persons only. If they could afford a place like this, he was most likely to be a billionaire. “Are you allergy with something?” he suddenly asked. “Huh?” As I cleared my throat, I added, “I don’t have any. Why?” I had been stuttering everytime I would response to his questions. I just couldn’t calm myself in front of him. His dark aura feared the hell out of me and I couldn’t imagine what could he possibly do to me once I pissed him off. I breathed as I waited for his answer. “Okay.” End of the conversation. The dining room should carry a happy vibe interwoven with the aroma of our meal, but all I could feel was awkwardness.

Chapter 5

“Then why did you kidnap me?” I asked. He put the gun on the table before he stood up, and went to the near bar counter of the mansion. His broad back greeted my eyes as he walked. “Stop asking,” he mentioned. My shoulders stooped. I complained, “I want to know! I want to know why did you guys brought me here.” “Just stop asking, Eris. Stop wasting your time asking me why.” “Why? I... I need a reason!” “Just how dare you to ask me?”  That shut me up and I even jumped at my feet. His voice were loud and clear that it started making me feel scared amd nervous. Shoot. I pissed him off. “It’s not like a relationship that when someone broke up with you, you would demand for a reason why did he break up with you!” I gasped. His words struck right at my heart instantly, making me feel suffocated and frozen. It was as if he was slapping me the reality that I was heartbroken. Clearing my throat as I mu
