Chapter 6

Jessie's body could not stop shaking as she stared at the coffin closely. Later that night, the oxygen in the coffin was finally used up.

Faint noises came from the two coffins, like nails digging into wood.

There was a creaking sound, but I just plugged my headphones in. I was afraid that such noise would disturb my serenity.

Jessie listened so clearly to the sound fading away bit by bit.

When dawn was about to arrive, I reckoned it was almost time, so I took off my headphones.

Jessie's gaze was blank as she mumbled, "I heard them calling me for help."

By then, two relatives had come to help, and I pretended to pat Jessie on the back to comfort her.

I explained to the relatives, "I guess the wake was frightening. Look, she started talking nonsense."

For the remaining two days of the wake, I was alone, and the unpleasant smell of the corpse permeated the coffin.

Jessie had been suffering from a high fever since she returned home that day, and she was still talking gibberish. E
