"Your ex-wife seems to care about you," Amelia smirked.

Zayn didn't answer. He just looked at her and said, "I'll wait for you in the Audi up ahead. After this, we'll head straight to Cloudcrest Estate. We might be there a while, so if you need to check in with your manager, do it now."

He turned and headed toward the nearby Audi.

After chatting with Kate and snapping a few photos with fans, Amelia slid into the Quandt family's Audi, shielded by her bodyguards.

In the back of the black A8, Zayn and Amelia sat in silence, each lost in thought. Zayn stared out the window, his mind churning. His grandma's death, the mess of his marriage, the upcoming meeting—it all simmered beneath the surface, fueling his irritation.

Years of searching for Bubbles had led nowhere, but his grandma's letter offered a new clue—still too vague to solve the mystery. Now Edward was promising more, though Zayn couldn't tell if it was genuine hope or just bait to pull him back into the family fold.

Zayn's expression darkened. His gaze dropped to the card twisting between his fingers—a Joker. Not a regular playing card, but one made of some tough metallic material, its sharp edge catching the light. It flicked between his fingers with practiced speed, a habit he'd picked up for moments like this.

After a while, he pulled out his phone and made a call. It rang for ages before someone finally picked up. From the other end, he heard... unmistakable sounds of a man and woman hooking up.

A few seconds later, a guy's voice came through with a lazy laugh. "Zayn, man, it's like we're psychically linked. I was just about to call you."

Zayn sighed. " What? Give me a front-row seat to.... whatever's happening over there?"

"Aw, come on, cut me some slack," the guy chuckled. "My old man shipped me off to Africa three months ago, and I'm losing it here. Last night, I had to call in some... entertainment."

Zayn, used to Xander's wild lifestyle, ignored it. "Xander, cancel the order we had lined up for BeechCorp."

"What?" Xander's tone sharpened. "What happened?"

"I divorced Yvonne. She's with someone else now," Zayn said, steady.

There was a pause before Xander replied coldly, "She's an idiot, then. Want me to take care of her?"

"Leave it. Just cancel the order, and," Zayn's voice dropped a notch. "I've got a lead on Bubbles. We'll go over it in person when you're back."

Xander's pulse quickened. "Really? I'll be back in a few days; this place is hell on earth. I'll call the old man now—if he won't get me out, I'll just, I don't know, die in a woman's arms or something....Alright, I'm hanging up."

As Zayn put his phone away, he noticed Amelia watching him. "What are you staring at?" he asked.

"Who were you talking to?" she asked, studying him.

"My friend."

She rolled her eyes. "Figures you'd hang out with that type."

Zayn went quiet for a second.

"Who's Bubbles?"

"My sister," he said, his expression softening. "She disappeared ten years ago."

Amelia caught the sadness in his eyes and let it go, instead eyeing the playing card flipping through his fingers. "So, are you a magician?"

"...No."

"A gambler, then?"

"...No."

"Then how'd you get so good at cards?" She looked at him, intrigued.

Zayn's eyes flickered. "No reason. Just a habit."

In truth, his mind was already drifting back to those years spent in a world fueled by blood and adrenaline. Back then, they called him "Joker"—a name that was both a dig and a warning. The Joker card had become his mark.

Amelia shot him a dissatisfied look. "Zayn, even if this marriage is fake, we need to keep each other in the loop about certain things. Otherwise, we'll look like idiots in front of my grandpa."

"What do you want to know?"

"I looked into you." She studied him. "There's a five-year gap in your record—no trace of you at all. Mind telling me what you were doing during that time?"

Zayn's tone stayed mild. "I went abroad. Worked somewhere remote. Couldn't exactly stay in touch, which is why there's no record."

"Which country? And what exactly were you doing?" she pressed.

"No comment," Zayn said, turning to the window, making it clear he was done with the topic.

"Fine, keep your secrets," Amelia shrugged.

Since he didn’t want to spill, Amelia didn’t push it.

Amelia grew bored and pulled a small ceramic figurine from her pocket, rolling it between her fingers.

It looked worn and a bit lopsided, with one arm longer than the other and uneven legs—almost like a child had sculpted it. The figure even resembled Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls.

The drive to Cloudcrest Estate, perched at Ignix Peak on the border of Cloudport and Longoria, would take about an hour.

As the car sped along the highway, Amelia, worn out from late nights on set, started to doze off.

Zayn, wide awake, was scrolling through the news on his phone when he noticed a black Honda Accord speeding up behind them. Suddenly, it swerved in front of the Audi.

A dangerous feeling prickled through him as the Honda slammed on its brakes.

Boom!

The Audi had no time to react and crashed into the Honda. In a flash, Zayn reached over, wrapping his arms around Amelia and pulling her down to shield her.

It all happened so fast, no one could've seen it coming.

"There's trouble!"

The two bodyguards up front—the tall, skinny one and the short, round one, as Zayn called them—were instantly on high alert.

"Stay in the car!" they ordered, reaching for their guns as they threw open their doors and stepped out to confront the threat.

At that moment, four men in black emerged from the Honda, guns drawn, and gunfire erupted. The bodyguards managed to take down two attackers, but outnumbered, they were quickly overwhelmed and went down in a hail of bullets.

The two remaining men approached the Audi, guns in hand.

Amelia, jolted awake, froze in terror as memories from a similar incident in her childhood flooded back.

This was the second time she'd faced something like this, and her mind raced. Was this an Arden family feud? Or maybe some grudge from her work in the showbiz?

But then she noticed Zayn beside her—calm, almost unfazed. Before she could say anything, two guns were aimed directly at him through the car window.

Just then—Bang! Bang! Two loud pops, and the gunmen dropped, each hit right between the eyes.Inside the car, Amelia's head was spinning. "W-Who did that?""Stay put. I'll check it out," Zayn said, stepping out.Outside, nothing but the empty road stretching into the distance, the wind whipping around.Tap, tap, tap.His phone buzzed. Zayn glanced down and saw the caller ID: Momo.He picked up, and her familiar, sing-song voice floated through. "Zayn, you good?""All good."She giggled, almost like she'd just won a game. "Man, been a minute since I've taken anyone down. Felt kinda awesome."Zayn laughed. "Miss the thrill, huh?""Maybe a little. But honestly, I kinda like this new life—long as I get to stick with you," Momo said. "But... why were those guys after you?"Zayn's expression hardened. "Probably the Quandt family. Cloudcrest Estate was just as extra as Zayn had pictured. The place was this wild mashup of Khelmarian class and bold northern flair—like someone threw together all the fancy and dramatic elements they could find, complete with endless hallways and insane carvings. While they walked, Nathan filled him in on the lowdown of the Quandt family. They were one of Longoria's Big Five, along with the Arden, Blanco, Windsor, and Tayvor families—basically the ultra-elite, running the show in the city.Zayn's father, Edward Quandt, was the second son in the family but clawed his way to the top after battling it out with his brothers. After he came back to Longoria, he'd married the youngest Tayvor daughter and had two sons and a daughter with her. So technically, Zayn had two half-brothers and a half-sister, not that he cared. He was here for one reason: to get answers about Bubbles from Edward. After a ten-minute walk, they stopped in front of a three-story villa."Today’s your father’s bir

A sharp gasp echoed through the room.Cole Quandt—the self-crowned king of everything—had just been smacked down by Zayn, the family's so-called "outcast" making a sudden comeback. And man, the look on Cole's face? Priceless. The younger members from Edward's siblings' families watched with barely hidden grins, eating up the chaos. To them, the infighting in Edward's branch of the family was just entertainment. They knew all about Cole's vengeful streak; the guy never let anything slide. As far as they were concerned, Zayn had just signed his own death warrant.Cole wiped his face, and the sight of blood on his hand made his eyes flash with rage. "Oh, you're done for. Make it out of Longoria alive, and I'll change my name."Zayn just smirked, all innocent-like. "Really? Sounds like a plan."Then, out of nowhere, he stomped on Cole's leg—hard.CRACK!Cole's bone snapped, and blood pooled beneath him, the jagged edges sticking through his skin. The whole room fell silent—even Ma

Edward ignored Fred and turned to Zayn."Zayn, I brought you back into this family, not to stir up chaos. If you don't have a good explanation, you'll be taking the punishment Nathan just saved you from."Zayn met Edward's gaze, a smirk forming. "Twenty years later, and you're still the same. For you, it's always been about the Quandt family."For a moment, guilt flickered in Edward's eyes. "I'll admit I hold some blame for what happened today. But you crossed the line."Zayn said flatly, "If I told you Cole hired four hitmen to stage a car accident and nearly got me killed, would you still say I went too far?"The room froze.Cole's face twisted with rage. "You lying piece of crap! Framing me to dodge punishment? That's low, even for you!"Zayn locked eyes with him, his own gaze ice-cold. "I'm telling the truth.""Oh yeah? Then show us some proof. Words don't cut it!" Cole shot back. "And why would I want you dead, anyway? I don't like you, but that doesn't mean I'd go that fa

"Speak.""I had you investigated. After you graduated, you disappeared for five years. There's no trace of you during that time—not a single piece of information. What were you doing all those years?" Edward turned, his gaze sharp and unflinching.Zayn kept to his standard line, replying calmly, "I was on a small, remote island. Communications were unreliable, so I lost touch with everyone back home.""That's all?" Edward's eyes bored into him."What else do you think I'd be doing?" Zayn shot back.Edward gave a faint smile. "I doubt it's that simple. Based on what you showed today, it's clear you've got some serious connections. No ordinary person could dig up that kind of evidence so easily."Zayn didn't bother humoring him. "This has nothing to do with you handing over the clues. Quit stalling and give me what you promised."Edward shook his head. "No, it is relevant. I need to know you're capable of following this trail."Then he handed Zayn two photos.Zayn took them inst

"What is it?""So, there's someone I like," Amelia said."Who?" Zayn asked. "That film director, Lowell Keating?"Amelia shook her head. "No, definitely not. Those rumors about Mr. Keating were just dumb gossip. It's... someone else."The truth was, there was someone. He'd saved her life once, a total mystery guy. She couldn't remember his face or his name—just the code names they used.Zayn didn't even flinch. "Oh.""That's it? Just 'oh'?" Amelia glared at him, frustrated."Oh, got it." Zayn added three more words this time. Now it was Amelia's turn to be speechless."Spending time with a guy like you is so boring."Zayn's smirked. "Alright, so if it's between me and Cole, who do you pick?"Amelia rolled her eyes. "Neither. Can I get one decent option?"Zayn chuckled.Amelia paused, a thought crossing her mind. "Who wants to see us?" Zayn asked, looking puzzled.Amelia frowned. "How would I know?"Meanwhile, in the reception hall...A woman in a dress sat gracefully on the couch, sipping tea with an elegant calm. Her hair was styled in a high bun, every bit regal. Beside her was a young man with a chiseled face and tanned skin, radiating a strong military vibe. He looked tense, clearly irritated."Jace, what's with the attitude?" the woman said, eyeing him with concern. "When you meet your brother-in-law, don't lose your temper, alright?""Mom, you and Grandpa found Amelia a husband without even consulting me?" Jace Arden replied sharply. "I'm her brother. I deserved to know."The woman, Deborah Lautner, sighed. "It was your grandpa's call. He's wanted an alliance with the Quandt family for ages, and this was the perfect chance. So, Amelia married Zayn."Jace scoffed, his tone icy. "I refuse to acknowledge that loser as my brother-in-law. A washed-up Quandt reject? He has no right to b

You knew Zayn was running BlueWave Capital, and you didn't think to warn me?!" Her voice cracked. "Do you even realize how bad I embarrassed myself? Amelia, I can't believe you let me walk in there clueless!"Meanwhile, just outside the suite, Yvonne was anxiously watching Eric's phone like it held her future."Eric, I'm so nervous," she said, taking a deep breath and pressing her hands together. "Yeah... but how did you know?" Alice asked, surprised."Meeting up to talk about a project?" Zayn pressed.Alice's eyes flickered as she took in his tone. "Yeah, actually. Eric used to be a junior associate when I worked on Wall Street. When he heard I joined BlueWave Capital, he reached out, saying his girlfriend had some project she wanted to pitch. All I agreed to was a meeting—nothing else."Alice, sharp as ever, picked up on a little tension in Zayn's voice.Zayn went quiet, his face hardening. Eric's girlfriend... that'd be Yvonne. With BeechCorp scrambling after losing a hundred-million-dollar deal with Goldmark, it made sense they'd be hunting for new investors—especially from BlueWave Capital. If he and Yvonne were still together, Zayn thought, he'd probably give her whatever support she wanted. A hundred-million-dollar investment? All she'd need to do was ask. But that ship had definitely sailed. He snapped out of it and turned back to Alice. "So, what's on the schedul
