chapter 6: Punishing her

"Miss Norman? I'm President Gray's assistant. He requests your presence. Please come with me."

Upon seeing Christopher, Scarlett was momentarily stunned. She quickly lowered her gaze to hide the fact that she recognized him.

The last time she had treated someone for an injury on behalf of Bryan, it was this man who had opened the door. So, he was Gray's assistant? And the injured person was wayne?

"Miss Norman, please." Christopher's tone grew firmer when he saw she wasn't moving.

Scarlett gathered her thoughts and replied, "I have to work."

It was a clear refusal.

She had no desire to see that man.

"Miss Norman, think carefully. Given your current situation, if you upset President Gray, losing your job would be the least of your worries. It could ruin your entire career as a doctor."

The threat was obvious.

Scarlett clenched her fists tightly. Her father only provided for the surgery costs; her mother's treatment and care expenses were all covered by her salary. She couldn't afford to lose her job, nor could she give up her career as a doctor.

She had no choice but to agree to go with Christopher!

"Wait a moment, I need to call the hospital to take a leave," she said. She went upstairs, made the call, and then placed a scalpel from her drawer into her bag for self-defense.

After quickly packing a few things, she headed downstairs.

Soon, she was taken to an entertainment venue.

Scarlett had never been to a place like this before.

Everywhere she looked, there were couples clinging to each other and women gossiping in the corners

"The guy doing business with Wayne in the VIP suite on the top floor is said to be a real pervert."

"Is it the same guy who almost killed a girl last time?"

"Yeah, that's him."

"Tsk tsk, I wonder who's the unlucky one this time. As long as it's not us, I'm fine. I heard the girl from last time survived but can't have children anymore. No idea what kind of torture he used to do that."

Scarlett felt her scalp tingle with fear, especially when she heard wayne's name in their conversation.

Her heart raced, and her palms grew sweaty.

Soon, the elevator stopped.

Seeing her pale face, Christopher kindly reminded her, "You know very well how you married President Gray. If you sign the divorce papers now, you can avoid tonight's ordeal."

Indeed, the Gray Family owed the Norman's Family a favor. When the Norman Family made their request, the Gray family couldn't refuse. However, if Scarlett agreed to the divorce, the matter would be settled.

Scarlett looked at Christopher, her body trembling slightly. If she could refuse, she wouldn't have stepped into the Gray's Family door in the first place.

She wouldn't have given Wayne the chance to treat her like this .

Taking a deep breath, she stepped out of the elevator.

Christopher frowned but said nothing more, leading her into a luxurious private room. Under the dim lighting, she immediately spotted Wayne sitting on the sofa, along with another man beside him.

"Well, well," the man said as soon as she entered, his eyes unabashedly scanning her from head to toe. "Not bad. Skin as white as porcelain, a slender waist. She'd be soft to hold."

He waved his hand. "Come over here, sit next to me."

Scarlett looked at wayne.

He leaned back, his legs elegantly crossed, his entire face hidden in the shadows.

She couldn't make out a single expression on his face.

The man stood up and casually draped his arm over her shoulder.

With a sly smile, he asked wayne, "Where did you find her? She's much more pleasing to the eye than those heavily made-up ladies. This fresh, natural look is just my type."

Wayne remained silent and didn't stop the man's actions. Was that a tacit approval?

Scarlett felt a chill run through her heart. She tightened her grip on her bag.

"Do you drink?" the man asked, his hand moving toward her waist.

Disgusted by his touch, she shifted her body away. "No, I don't."

"No problem, I'll teach you." The man poured a full glass of wine and brought it to her lips.

She turned her head to avoid it, but the man pulled her into his arms. She struggled, "Let go of me..."

"Entertaining my guests is part of your job," Wayne's body leaned forward, his sharp features more pronounced under the light. He looked up, his pupils calm and his furrowed brows cold and

unfeeling. "If you can't do it, then pack your things and get out!"

She had thought he didn't like her, at most treating her like trash, like air.

But she hadn't expected him to be so despicable.

"I'll drink," she said, pushing the man away.

Taking the glass of wine from his hand, she hesitated for a moment before tilting her head back and downing it.

This was her first time drinking.

She drank too quickly, and the alcohol burned its way from her throat to her stomach.

It was both fiery and spicy.

Her delicate brows furrowed, making her look alluring. The man couldn't wait any longer. "President Gray, should I take her away?"

Scarlett felt a sudden jolt of fear and instinctively wanted to escape. But the moment she looked up, she met a deep, dark gaze that seemed as black as night. She froze in place. Was this man deliberately trying to humiliate her?

Wayne quickly looked away. "Do as you please."

The man grinned and immediately wrapped his arm around Scarlett. This time, she didn't struggle.

She followed the man out of the private room.

Christopher approached. "Miss Norman left with jeff Ortiz... I'm afraid her innocence is at risk. She..."

Although he wanted her to give up and agree to a divorce, he didn't intend for her to actually lose her virtue.

wayne poured himself a drink and downed it in one gulp, his eyes cold and predatory. "Do you think she's that innocent?"

Christopher was taken aback, his eyes widening in shock. Could it be that the Norman family was not only greedy but also sent an impure woman?

He suddenly felt a surge of anger. He had even felt a bit of sympathy for Scarlett.

It hardly seemed worth feeling sorry for her now.

"Even though she knows we're making things difficult for her, she still refuses to initiate the divorce. It looks like she won't give in easily," Christopher said.

Does she really want to cling to the Gray Family?

"President Gray..."

"Let's go," wayne interrupted, his expression calm, clearly not wanting to hear any more about Scarlett.

Christopher wisely kept quiet and went ahead to open the door to the private room.

Sitting in the car, the fleeting scenery outside passed by quickly, but Wayne's mind was filled with the image of that woman willingly leaving with jeff.

She knew exactly what would happen, yet she still agreed?

That woman...

"Turn around."

Christopher was momentarily stunned but quickly understood and immediately turned the car back toward the club.

However, they didn't find her at the club; they were told she had left.

Wayne Gray's face darkened as he ordered Christopher to head back to the villa.

But she wasn't at the villa either; it was clear Scarlett hadn't returned yet.

"Go find..."

Just as Wayne began to speak, the door opened, and Scarlett's voice followed.

"Mrs. Robert..."

Scarlett wasn't much of a drinker; just one glass had her feeling tipsy. If it weren't for the calm and self-control her profession demanded, she might not have made it back at all.

However, there stood Mrs. Robert, hesitant to move forward.

"Mrs. Robert...

As she called out again, she finally noticed the man standing in the living room.
