ZION

I watched the dagger soar through the air, barely grazing my arm as it flew pass me. Everything felt like it was happening in slow motion; Alina asking me to run and get out of here, me watching every rotation the dagger did before hitting its intended victim, the way the dagger finally pierced Lucifer in the abdomen, the way he fell to his knees with his mouth open and eyes wide but no sound emanating from him. It all felt so strange.

Alina held my shoulders firmly and began shaking me back to reality, the chaos of the situation finally settling into my brain. I glared at her but she didn't seem fazed. The panicked expression on her face becoming more and more distressing.

"Zion, snap out of it," she chided, "you have to get out of here. Get home and protect your family. Do you understand me, go!" She shoved me away and when I just stood there, eyes still glaring at her, she resorted to yelling, "Zion! Go, now! That won't hold him forever. It will hurt him but not kill him since

ZIONI steered clear of Alina for the next couple of weeks as much as I could. I didn't want to make things awkward again so we still hung out together with our group of friends but I never gave Alina the chance to catch me alone. I really wasn't ready to have a full discussion with her about everything that happened. That Monday, Alina drove my car to school whereas I just flew there. The feeling of allowing my wings to breath was sensational, it was definitely something I could have gotten used to if I were actually allowed to do it. I landed in the forest bordering the school, made sure my wings were gone before shrugging on a shirt and continuing with my day as a normal everyday teenager. The rest of the week I used my car. Rumors spread around school that Alina and I had suddenly become a couple after she turned up in my car that Monday but they died down as soon as they started. The new rumors that r

  • Zion   Chapter 36

ZIONI chose to go to sleep because I just wasn't ready to face Alina. I wasn't sure if I could get past the fact that she just happened to be the daughter of Lucifer. No matter how much I tried, the thought just lingered in my mind like a persistent little mosquito that refused to leave me alone. I hated it. Every single part of it. Unlike the angels that took away her wings, I didn't think of her as an abomination. It would have been better if she were either a full angel or fully human but unfortunately luck was never on my side.I laid in bed staring at the ceiling. She did save my life that night. He expected her to be the killer he trained but her human side wouldn't allow it. She felt emotions on a human level. The bond between us also played its part. Really thinking about it, our fate reminded me very much so of something out of a fantasy werewolf novel. A soulmate, a mate bond, the sexual attraction, and chemistr

  • Zion   Chapter 37

ZION Tonight had to be the most awkward night of my entire existance. Everyone sat around the dinner table and I made sure that Alina sat beside me. I had my hand placed on her thigh the entire time, enjoying the sensation that coursed through us with the skin to skin contact. The entire time, every person seated there watched me with cautious eyes, almost as if I would lose my shit any second.I tried my very best to stay calm but I felt like a mortal teenager who couldn't control his hormones. My jaw hurt from how hard I had been clenching it the entire night. With every breath I took, her sweet intoxicating scent flooded my nostrils. I felt like banging my head against a wall until I passed out. Suffering from a concussion sounded much better than doing this.No one mentioned the elephant in the room and by that, I meant no one mentioned what happened outside. My mother was disheartened that my father

  • Zion   Chapter 38

    ALINAHe looked at me as if I had completely lost it. It wasn't like me to want to experiment in that manner with anyone even if that person was my sworn soulmate. But right now all I could think of was the feeling I felt each time he touched me. I couldn't help but wonder what if it went further, how would that feel?Maybe I felt that way because my birthday was coming up. Wasn't it ironic that I was born on the twenty-fifth of December? As far as I could tell, turning eighteen in the supernatural world really meant nothing. Eighteen was something humans made a big deal of whereas the only day that actually meant something for an angel was the day they stopped aging. That meant that they had reached full maturity and could conduct their duties with no problems.However, maybe the principal didn't apply to me. I was a mortal teenager with raging hormones and at the age of eighteen, nothing was stopping me;

ZIONI spent the week trying to get the perfect birthday present for Alina. I had never done anything remotely like this before so I had no idea what I should get her. The fact that people expected presents at Christmas didn't help. I wasn't sure if I should get her a Christmas and birthday gift all in one or get her two separate gifts. My family never celebrated the holidays but Grayson and Mabel were quite the festive couple. They had invited everyone over to their house to celebrate Alina turning eighteen and Alina hated it. She hated being fussed over. It was actually quite adorable the way she became flustered and the way her face would turn beat-red.Everyone would be gathering at her house at six this afternoon which left me little time to prepare. Wrapping gifts weren't my strong suit but I did my best, using more tape than actual wra

  • Zion   Chapter 40

ZION"Mine next, mine next," Kendra gleefully chirped, clapping her hands in excitement once Alina was done unwrapping Sophia's gift.Sophia had gotten Alina a set of best friend necklaces. One for Alina, one for Sophia herself, and one for Kendra. It was cute and by the sparkle, in Alina's eyes, I knew she liked it. Alina picked up the small box that was wrapped in a candy cane gift wrap. She wasted no time in ripping the wrapping apart to reveal a tiny black box. Her grey orbs held curiosity as they shifted to where Kendra sat.Alina gasped when she finally opened the box, fear flashing in her eyes. In a split second the box had fallen to the floor, a blood-red crystal heart sliding out of it and spinning at Kendra's feet. I looked at everyone stuffed in the small sitting room. Max and Sophia were more worried about Alina, Kendra gnawed at her lip in anticipation, my parents stared at each other like fis

  • Zion   Chapter 41

ZIONFor the past week, Alina, Kendra, and I had been meeting at my house to train. More precisely, we were trying to teach Kendra how to wield some sort of magic. With her being a half-blood, she should have been able to dabble with dark magic even in the slightest, however, she found it very difficult.Alina assumed it was because of the way she was born. A wingless half-blood who probably took more of the mortal gene than the supernatural one. Also, there were speculations that Alina could wield magic only because of who her father was. Being so gifted meant that his offspring would be gifted as well.We weren't exactly in contact with any more half-bloods to test our theories though so we just continued to play guessing games. With there being no literature about this sort of thing, it made things rather difficult. Angels weren't meant to procreate with mortals and I don't think the Creator even envisioned his following disobeying his orders. My mother tested out many things on me.

ZIONTen...The countdown had begun and we were just about to enter the hall when Alina tugged my arm. I turned to her, an eyebrow raised in question when she just shook her head. I could hear everyone shouting on the inside; most of them drunk out of their minds.Nine..."Wait, can't we just stay out here?" She asked with pursed lips.Eight...I deliberated her request for a quick second before coming to a conclusion, "It's way too cold. You're going to get sick Angel face."Seven..."I'll be fine. If we continue arguing like this we are going to start the New Year on a bad note so can you just listen to me and stay out here," she said those words so fast that I was surprised I even heard them.Six..."But I'm not arguing with you," I defended,

  • Zion   Epilogue

ZION"Let me help you with that," I suggested, trying to pry Alina's fingers off the heavy box she attempted to carry. She was doing a good job at it, hiding how much pain she was in by wearing a smile on her face but I could easily spot the beads of sweat forming on her forehead. She bared her teeth at me, a growl like sound vibrating in her throat, "Don't you dare Collins. I can carry my stuff up. I don't need your help."I chuckled at her reaction. So much pride in one little adorable body. Finally, the ding of the elevator was heard and the doors parted. I ushered Alina in, carrying two boxes of my own in my grasp; my boxes, however, were far lighter than hers. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought she brought her entire bedroom of belongings with us to New York. There was another ding and the doors parted to our floor. I kept my footsteps in time with hers, making sure not to leave he

  • Zion   Chapter 57

ZION"It's so cold," Alina complained, hugging her body and jumping up and down in one spot, "Why do we have to do this now? I can wait for spring to set in. I'm really in no rush Zi..."I groaned, "You say that now but by tomorrow it will be playing on your mind again so we rather get this done and over with before you drive me to the brink of insanity."She scowled at me, shooting me the bird, "I sometimes wonder why I even love you!" Her statement earned an eye roll from me and a nonchalant shrug. It made sense that she would be cold since she wore a top that had a really low back. The cold probably pricked at the skin of her bare back and arms but that was her fault alone. She now proclaimed to be patient but for the past month, she had been annoyed by the thought of not having her wings. To finally put her at ease, I suggested we test out the theory. It was mid-February now and it was still quite chilly out. This town was known for its limited sunshine so that didn't surprise me

  • Zion   Chapter 56

ZION I shrugged off my jacket and pulled off my shirt, tossing the both into the passenger seat before exiting the car. Before doing anything else, I sent a text to Max telling him to take Alina home because I knew she would walk if she couldn't find me. It was cold out and I really didn't want her walking but at the same time I wasn't in the mood for company.Locking my car, I walked over to the frozen lake. It looked like a calming winter wonderland and yet it still wasn't calming enough for the raging storm that was tearing me up from within. Making sure no one was around, I rolled my shoulders and let my wings out. It was cold but the cold didn't bother me as usual.Within five strong strokes I was almost above the clouds; the best place to be once you were in the sky if you had to ask me. Once I made it above the clouds, I just flew around for a bit. Letting the dense air clear my mind. As weird as i

  • Zion   Chapter 55

ZIONWe didn't know what to do with Kendra. She kept apologizing profusely, kept saying that she didn't want to do what she did and was forced to by her father. Deep down, I wanted to believe her but I didn't. I couldn't. We still let her go because there was honestly nothing else we could do but we kept a close eye on her. That was until she disappeared two days later. There were rumors that her and her mother had just packed up in the middle of the night and left town.Good riddance I say. The further away from me and my family the better. Killing her would only be a pleasure for me if she brought it to that. There was nothing stopping me from doing it now. Nothing beside Alina ordering me not to I mean. I respected Alina enough to listen to her because I didn't want her to get mad at me. I lost so much, I couldn't lose her too.Mabel, Grayson, and Alina helped plan the funeral

  • Zion   Chapter 54

ZIONI reappeared in my bedroom finding Kendra's hands tied to my bedpost and her father's limb and very dead body still on my bedroom floor. Rolling my shoulders, the weight of my wings vanished so I took the opportunity to put a shirt on. Just then, Alina shot up from the bed with a loud gasp. Her subconscious finally returning to her physical body. The first thing she did was throw a hand behind her to feel her wings which weren't there. Disappointment colored her features when she realized this.Placing a hand on her shoulder, I gave it a gentle reassuring squeeze, "It will all be okay."She met my gaze, "Yeah, I know. I was just getting used to having them that's all," with those words, a perplexed sigh left her lips, "I should be telling you that though not the other way around."I clenched my molars, keeping my mouth shut from spitting something I would regret later. This wasn't a t

  • Zion   Chapter 53

ZIONRuthlessness. When I looked into Alina's blackened eyes that were the only thing I could see. She didn't know it, couldn't see it, but at that moment she looked a lot like the man that fathered her. The female devil herself asserting her power and taking the reigns.I knew I showed no emotion, keeping my face blank as I stared at her but deep down my mind was reeling and my stomach was churning. On her back, a pair of beautiful crimson wings sat. Unfurled, they were huge, almost as big as mine. I had never heard of an angel who managed to get their wings back after they were chopped off, but then again, I didn't know they still chopped of wings until I met Alina.Again, it only proved that there was so much I didn't know about my kind. I couldn't help but wonder if those wings would still be there once her subconscious returned to her physical form.

  • Zion   Chapter 52

ALINA I heard him. His voice echoed in my head, the words he said rang in my ears and I wanted to scream. I wanted to tell him that I didn't need saving, that I was perfectly fine and that this was a trap but I couldn't because no matter how much I shouted or cried, he couldn't hear me. My physical body was as good as a lifeless shell, immobile and cold.I'm coming to get you Angel face, you hear me? Hang in there okay. Those words were continuously taunting me. Damn him for caring this much! With his mother also here, it made sense that his first thought was to come save us. His father would be in a haze himself, not thinking clearly due to his wife's state. I could see her from where I stood next to my father. He had his little serpent crushing her, draining her of the little power she had. Her screams each time that viper bit her made bile rise up my throat. Her soul would be long gone before Zion could even get here. If only I hadn't gone to Zion's room with Kendra or anywhere al

People were running around. My father's boots thudded against the hardwood floors as he rushed to the main bedroom, probably with my mother in hand. None of them knew about the chaos in front of me at the moment.Kendra stood over Alina's limp body on the floor. There was a steady rise and fall of her chest letting me know that she was alive but she looked like my mother, unmoving and lifeless. That wasn't a good sign, I knew that much considering what happened before. My mother almost died that day and now I ran the risk of los

  • Zion   Chapter 50

ZION"Hey, let's head down to the lake for a little ice skating," Alina ecstatically chimed as we exited the school building. Her eyes had this twinkle in them that made my heart still and breath hitch. I wasn't even paying attention to what she was saying because her smile was simply ethereal, "Zi, did you hear me?" She quizzed, hooking her arm with mine.Shaking my thoughts away, I answered, "Uh, yeah...sure. Our skates are still in the trunk of my car right?"She nodded her head, "We never took them out after that day.I took in my surroundings, all the students still lingering outside the school, "Shouldn't we be getting home though? I mean, it's test week so don't you want to study. You know how you get. You stress over the simplest stuff for no reason.""I've been cramming this whole week. I think my brain deserves some rest and I'd like to spend time with you for yo
