Naomi’s POV

We want Raymond.

The words flashed back at me from the screen, it was sharp enough to cut air.

I froze, My heart was beating so loudly I could barely hear anything else. Across the room, Raymond stood motionless, his jaw clenched, shoulders drawn tight like a bow.

“This just got personal,” he said.

“No,” I corrected, voice hoarse. “It’s been personal since the beginning.”

He paced the room, hands buried deep in his hair. I could feel his mind spinning, planning, calculating.

“We can’t go to the police,” I said. “If they know Miranda’s involved, she’s as good as bait.”

“They already have Betty,” he muttered. “And if they’re asking for me…”

“They know we’re married. This has to be about more than money now.”

Raymond stopped pacing. “It’s leverage.”

My brows pulled together. “Leverage for what?”

He didn’t answer.

Instead, he turned to the window and stared into the night like the answers were hiding in the shadows.

One Hour Later

The mansion was quiet, too quiet, if a needle

Naomi’s POVI stared at the photo.Rachel, she was dressed in white. Standing in a garden I didn’t recognize. Then I saw Miranda beside her—smiling, Trusting.O my poor baby, what does she know?I wanted to scream.I wanted to shatter the phone in my hand and drive straight through every lie I’d ever believed. But I couldn’t, I had to think, Fast.“Naomi.”I turned to see Beatrice stepping into the hospital waiting room, her face pale but composed.“They’ve stabilized Raymond,” she said gently. “He has a mild concussion, a cracked rib… but he’ll be okay.”The breath I’d been holding finally released.“I need to see him.”“Five more minutes, and they’ll let you in.”I nodded, then showed her the photo on my phone. Her face went still.“She has Miranda,” I said.Beatrice’s hand went to her mouth. “But how? The guards—”“Someone let her in.”And only a handful of people had access to Miranda’s safe house.Which meant one of them had betrayed us.…….When I finally entered Raymond’s room,

Naomi's POVThe beams of the headlights cut through the fog as I drove alone to Saint Gideon's Retreat. The name sounded peaceful on the GPS screen. Tranquil, but feels like a big danger is ahead. My fists clenched the wheel like it might vanish if I blinked. More and more, every mile that passed carried me further away from safety—and toward the sister that I hadn't asked for and the kid that I could not bear to lose, she was my life, my everything.Rachel was a parasitic type of personality. She lived on attention, praise, and affection. If it was in my possession, she wanted it. If I lost it, she wore my grief like badges of honor. But this, this kidnapping? This was different though. This was war, she had come too far with this, she has hurt the feelings of a mother this time.---The gates of the retreat were rusted and hung crooked, vines wrapped around the massive, ancient archway. Slowly, I exited the car, boots crunching on the gravel, eyes scanning every window, every line o

Naomi's POVAlexander entered through the ruined entrance as though he belonged in the chaos.Gun in hand, Suit spotless, Smile devilish.Rachel clutched her side where blood seeped through her fingers. But her gaze burned with greater intensity than before."You." She spat."Me," he said with smooth nonchalance, striding past her as if she was nothing.I instinctively put Miranda behind me."Drop the act," I growled. "You are not here to help."Alexander stopped in front of me, his head tilting to one side in amusement."That hurts," he replied. "Not after all we have gone through together."I stepped backward. "You knew, didn't you?"His gaze locked with mine, all trace of the smirk gone. "I knew from the moment I saw you."Rachel groaned from the floor. "He's lying.""Come on, Rachel," he said, kneeling down beside her. "You can't die before the big reveal."She spat blood onto his shoe.Alexander groaned. "Classy”.I clutched the gun one of the guards had dropped earlier and point

Naomi’s POVThe Montego Tower stood taller than I remembered—sharp, silver, soulless. A glass monument to power built on secrets and blood. My reflection in the polished marble floor made me look confident—heels clicking, shoulders square—but inside, my heart pounded. Every step toward the private elevator felt like walking a tightrope over an abyss, whispers followed me like perfume. She's back. She's alive. She's not supposed to be here.I pressed the access key, and the doors slid shut. Floor 49, The only sound I could hear was the soft whirr of machinery. Raymond stood beside me, His dark suit and calm expression strengthened me; I might have fallen without him because I don't know what I'd have done without him.The guards didn’t stop me, Not after the name “Naomi Darlington” flashed across my ID badge. That name, once used as a weapon against me was now my armor.Today, I wasn’t running.Today, I was taking back what was mine.……..Conference RoomThe boardroom smelled of ciga

Naomi’s POVI stared at the birth certificate like it was written in blood.Miranda Hale. Mother: Rachel Thompson. Father: Unknown. It just didn’t make sense, It couldn’t make sense. There was only one Miranda, My Miranda, My daughter.Wasn’t there? My fingers trembled as I placed the document beside the flash drive. The room spun, a storm swirling around the calm face in the certificate. That wasn’t my daughter. It couldn’t be.Unless…Unless the deception went deeper than I ever imagined.Raymond’s POVNaomi hadn’t moved in minutes. She sat in the corner of her office, elbows on her knees, staring at the documents in front of her like they were ghosts.I knew that look. She was unraveling.I knelt beside her and placed a hand on her back.“Talk to me,” I said softly. She didn’t answer at first. Then—“What if I’ve been protecting the wrong truth?”I frowned. “What are you saying?”She looked at me with eyes that had seen too much. “What if… the real Miranda is Rachel’s?”My chest t

Naomi’s POVTwo little girls.Same eyes, Same face, Same smile. The video kept replaying on my phone and each time it does it felt like my I'm being choked.Behind them, the man in the lab coat spoke like a god unveiling his creation.“You’re not the mother, Naomi. You’re the test.”I dropped the phone.Raymond caught it before it hit the floor. He didn’t say a word. Just stood there, eyes fixed on the screen, replaying the image we both couldn’t process.“What does that mean?” I whispered.Raymond looked at me, slowly. “It means someone’s been lying to us from the very beginning.”One Hour Later – Montego Medical Research DivisionThe name on the file—Project Eve—had been buried so deeply in the foundation’s archives that it took Raymond’s emergency-level credentials to even access the floor. Beatrice had pulled a few strings. Montego’s research wing had been shut down quietly years ago… or so we were told. But the elevator still worked. The 13th floor buzzed to life.It was Cold an

Naomi’s POVThe chip behind Miranda’s ear shined under the flashlight like a secret the world had no right to keep.I couldn’t breathe. Not from fear—but fury, like Dammm, I was angry to the extent you can literally see smoke from my ear.She was my child, My blood, My breath. And someone had the audacity to cut into her body like she was a lab experiment.A message buzzed on my phone, the words burning into my brain:“She was never yours to begin with. But if you want her to live—bring the flash drive. Alone.”I stood still, the echo of those words pounding in my skull. Then I grabbed the flash drive, slipped it into my coat, and headed for the door.---Raymond’s POVShe didn’t say goodbye.I came back from a meeting with Beatrice, and her room was empty. The flash drive was gone, I tried calling her phone, it was off.The note she left was short:“Don’t follow me, They’ll kill her. I have to do this alone.”My fist clenched around the page.“No,” I muttered. “Not again.”I turned t

Naomi’s POV“I want to stay with him.”Those six words were like 6 different stones being thrown at me, the pain isn't imaginable and words can describe the hurt I'm feeling. This was not from the Miranda I knew, the little girl whose laugh had filled my kitchen, whose drawings covered my fridge. But from her identical twin that was created from the same embryo, raised in the shadows, and brainwashed by a man who saw children as experiments.Victor smiled like he’d already won. “See? Nature bends to nurture.” “God, how I feel like burning him to ashes right now.”Raymond took a step forward, jaw clenched. “You manipulated her.”Victor tilted his head. “I raised her. Gave her truth when Naomi couldn’t even give her answers.”My Miranda—my daughter—clung to me, trembling, I felt her tears soak into my shoulder.“Mommy,” she whispered. “I’m scared of her.”I turned toward the second Miranda.Same curls. Same dimples. But her eyes? They were different.Sharper, it was empty.A mirror, but

Naomi's pointWaking up that morning of my wedding day felt like a dream and I wasn't sure if I should wake up from it.It was not the kind of dream where you wake up and forget. It was the kind of dream you step into with open eyes, breathless, terrified, and completely in awe.Beatrice stood behind me, smoothing my curls into waves as warm light streamed in through open windows."You are quite baby," she said quietly.I'm afraid I'll cry if I talk. She smiled, already tear-filled eyes. "Then cry if you need to. You've earned every tear."Sure,The beach – scenes from the wedding ceremonyThe sun was setting, warming the sand in a gentle golden glow. The waves rolled in quietly, almost as if attempting not to breathe also.I was standing behind a white curtain threaded through by strings of fairy lights, dressed in a flowing, lacey gown cascading down my arms. My feet were buried deep in warm beach sand. But my heart ached. My parents were not alive. No one would give me away at the

Naomi’s POV“I want many unicorns, and rainbow cupcakes, And a crown, I want Barbie!”Miranda stomped her tiny foot for emphasis, standing on a dining chair, clutching a glitter pen like it was a wand. Her cheeks were smudged with frosting and her curls had somehow acquired two hair clips, a pencil, and a flower.I stared at her, then at Raymond, who had one eyebrow raised and a coffee mug halfway to his lips.“She’s your daughter,” I said dryly.“She’s your boss,” he replied, smirking. “Clearly.”Miranda turned to me, wide-eyed. “Mommy, Daddy says I’m the boss of the wedding!”I laughed out loud. “Well, Boss Miranda, what does the queen want?”Miranda beamed. “I’m in charge of the wedding!”Beatrice, sitting nearby with a cup of tea and a barely concealed smile, whispered, “Let her have this moment.”I sighed. “Unicorns, huh?”She nodded solemnly. “With glitter.”---Later That MorningMiranda was distracted with a unicorn coloring book, and Raymond and I were tucked into the sunroom

  • Your brother, my husband    Chapter 32

Naomi's POV The day started like any normal day.Sunlight poured over hardwood floors. The kitchen was filled with the scent of coffee. Miranda warbled off key as she painted flowers on rocks outside. But something was different about this morning.Raymond had departed after breakfast on the pretext of errands. Beatrice took Miranda away midmorning on a sly wink. And I was left alone in this big house. I felt lonely though, like as if something precious has left me.---I wandered the house the entire day, I was agitated. I started cleaning things that weren't dirty, started Folding things that were already folded just to get myself busy and from being bored. When the doorbell rang around sunset, I jumped out of where I was to get it. I didn't care who was there but I was happy someone was home. With excitement in my heart, I opened the door–And i found a single white rose tied up by a velvet ribbon.A note was left inside the ribbon.> “Come to the garden.Love, R.I trembled a bi

  • Your brother, my husband    Chapter 31

Naomi's POV The morning sun spilled golden across the kitchen and shined on the ingredients that were being placed on the table in the kitchen."Pancake day!" Miranda shouted, flinging herself over the counter where the apron was tied around her.I was laughing, feeling light-hearted, I turned to face her and said “what do we need to do first?”“First we need to wash our hands”, she said as she moved towards the sink and started singing a particular nursery rhyme–”wash your hands du-du-du,” as she washed her small little hands.Raymond was at the stovetop attempting to flip a very wobbly pancake while muttering under his breath."You're burning it," I teased, resting against the counter. He gave me a look over his shoulder, pretending to be offended. "I am a multi-talented fellow. Pancake flipping isn't just one of my skills."Miranda giggled wildly and kicked her small feet. "Daddy needs lessons!"He sneered. "Indeed, I'd learn from youShe nodded seriously and then snatched up a s

  • Your brother, my husband    Chapter 30

Naomi's POV The days were more calm now.No alarm. No secret messages were left under our door.No hints of trouble lurking around the corner.Nothing but sunlight spilling through open windows, the smell of pancakes from the kitchen, and the laughter of Miranda echoing through the corridors. It was, for the first time in a long while, normal. And somehow it was even scarier than all we had suffered.……….I was barefooted, standing amidst the dewy lawn of the garden, as I saw Miranda running with a yellow kite. I heard her laughter carry into the warm atmosphere, a high clear note. Raymond stepped up close to me, his arms wrapped around my waist, his chest a solid, heat-filled wall against mine. She's happy," he muttered into my hair.I sat up straight, letting the brutal truth of that statement seep deep into my marrow. She deserves it, I murmured. So do you.I rolled over against the curve of his chest, looking for his face. He stared at me as he always did—LIKE I was the beginnin

  • Your brother, my husband    Chapter 29

Naomi's POV The house was silent, except for the soft tick of the clock and the gentle hum of Miranda's steady breaths while sleeping. The world has finally, finally, came to a standstill for us.I sat by the window, I was only wearing a robe, arms folded across my chest, watching moonlight stream across the garden.I heard his footsteps, slow and steady, behind me.RaymondMy anchor, my storm. We had not had a moment by ourselves like this in what seemed like forever. No enemy lying in hiding. No experiments waiting to take our daughter away from us.Just us.And then suddenly, I couldn't breathe.……..His strong, warm hands wrapped around my waist from behind. He placed his chin on my shoulder and just like that I could feel his breath on my body and my body immediately responded to it. All the hairs on my body stood and I just rested my head in his."You are tensed," he whispered.I closed my eyes, leaning back into him. "It’s hard to stop looking over my shoulder.""You don’t have

  • Your brother, my husband    Chapter 28

Naomi’s POVThe sun rose differently now.It wasn’t the same pale, uncertain light that crept over battlefields and broken dreams. It was now richer—warmer—pouring into our home like it had been waiting for us to be ready and I'm glad we are happy.I stood at the kitchen window, my hands wrapped around a coffee mug, watching Miranda chase butterflies in the garden. Her laughter lifted into the morning air like a song. Now my daughter is now a child once more. Raymond sat on the porch steps, pretending to read but smiling every time she shrieked with joy, what a lovely sight to behold. We were breathing again. Not fighting. Not hiding.Just living. And for the first time in what felt like forever, that was enough.Being with my family, most especially my daughter, was enough for me.---One Month After Project Eve EndedThe world never found out about the Eve project and we feel it's better that way.Beatrice’s connections helped us erase the final traces, ensuring the children could g

  • Your brother, my husband    Chapter 27

Naomi’s POVThe words echoed down the hall loudly: “LINK ACTIVATED. ALL EVE SUBJECTS RESPONDING.” My breath caught in my throat as the metal walls around us vibrated, It was as if the building itself were coming alive, humming with that low, electric pulse that pulsed through my bones.I held Miranda’s hand, her small fingers warm and real in mine. Behind us, the glass chamber housing six of the Eve girls glowed an eerie blue. In just a single heartbeat, they snapped upright, moving in perfect synchrony—eyes glowing, heart monitors spiking, A hum filled the air.“Raymond yelled something behind me, but I couldn’t hear him. Couldn’t move.Because Miranda… was glowing too.Her eyes, her fingertips, even the edges of her hair shimmered with the same unnatural light. She blinked, not Once but Twice. Then whispered, “Mama… I feel them all.”Raymond’s POVI shoved past the guards, gun raised, shouting for the team to secure the server room. Victor stood calmly behind the master console, a

Naomi’s POVThe new girl in the west wing didn’t speak. She didn’t run.She didn’t knock. She just appeared—like she was always supposed to be here, and she acted like she was being controlled.Security hadn’t seen her enter, she just appeared like a ghost from nowhere.None of the staff had let her through. She stood barefoot on the marble, curls identical to Miranda’s, wearing a pale gray dress that clung to her thin frame like it had been sewn on. My goodness, the sight wasn't anything I could say, she was too young for all this happening.I moved slowly towards her even though my legs were numb, I just needed to go.When I approached, she said only one word.“Three.”Three?Then she turned and walked into the shadows, disappearing like a ghost. And somehow, deep down… I knew exactly what she meant.…….That night, I entered Miranda's room and I noticed she couldn’t sleep. She sat in bed, holding her wolf, eyes wide and unblinking, looking all scared.“They’re louder now,” she whi
