JOHN'S POV
"Now I am really confused ,it was her mother all along. What then was the pity stunt she pulled in the court?" I asked, looking intently at Eniola.
"As far as I know, only Mariam can divulge that information," Eniola muttered.
"And how is Mariam going to be the solution. She's not going to be in court and her innocent father will go to jail." I said yelling at Eniola.
"Quit yelling at me." Eniola hissed.
"Mariam will come to the court if she wants to tell the truth and that's all." Eniola said fastening her seat belts.
"We should have probably kidnapped her." I muttered under my breath.
"Excuse me?" Eniola said frowning.
"It's nothing. Don't bother." I said hurriedly.
"So where's the way to your house?" I said kicking the car to a start.
"Turn left, then go right and drop me," Eniola said clicking the power of her phone on.
"Alright." I said wearing a fake smile.
In my life, I haven't seen a lady so bossy as Eniola. She had an innocent face to deceive men like us while her heart was purely made of stone and granite. Isn't there anything that could make her smile at me for just a second? I intentionally sped up so as to annoy but it seemed that everything I did to gain her attention was in solid vain.
After complying discreetly to her instructions, I stopped the car just beside an uncompleted building. A huge sense of awareness struck me that this wasn't Eniola's abode.
"You don't live here Eniola." I said folding my arms in frustration.
"I know. Thank you for the ride," Eniola said while opening the car door.
"You do know that you shouldn't be ashamed of where you live." I said teasingly.
"Of course. I just don't like too much attention." Eniola winked.
"A slum isn't so bad for you though." I winked back at her.
I rolled up the windows so as not to continue an endless argument with Eniola. I smiled as I watched her put on her flashlight as she walked. She was the kind of lady that never looked like a damsel in distress. She blended into the darkness of the night due to the black outfit she was wearing. She didn't even look back to acknowledge my presence. She simply walked and I waited till she was out of sight.
I zoomed off. Finding the house was a very easy task with the help of GPS. I walked into the lonely house. A yawn escaped from my lips ,my day was pretty rough and exciting .I switched on the lights. The only thing that looked so stunning was the couch I was about to doze off on.
I jumped on it happily ,maybe this was all destiny. I wished for more days of James's absence. Maybe it was for the best , I now enjoyed the new life I was living. A life that no one would condemn me , a life made up of lies. A life I wished to continue. I closed my eyes in readiness for the sleep to wisk me away.
Ring!Ring!Ring!
Not again!
I picked the phone up even without looking at it.
"Hello." I said in a singsong manner.
"Hello James." Eniola said.
There was only one human being on this earth that could call me by that name.
"What do you want,"I said standing up.
"Have you gotten home," Eniola asked.
"Why do I have to answer that question? " I said walking over to the fridge.
"Why are you answering my question with another question?" Eniola yelled.
"Why are you so angry all of a sudden? Are you on your period?" I said picking a water bottle out of the fridge.
"I am going to hang up in the next five seconds if you refuse to answer my question." Eniola said.
"I see that as a joke and not a threat. You can do better than that," I chuckled.
"I am guessing you are at home," Eniola teased.
"And how do you know that?" I said taking a sip of water.
"You seem to be standing in one place and I am not hearing any cars zooming." Eniola whispered.
"Bravo,"I shouted.
I dropped the waterbottle on the top of the fridge and I dropped the phone on a table and I clapped into it.
"You are destroying my eardrums bit by bit." Eniola teased.
"You are welcome."I said laughing as I grabbed the phone.
"I am starting to think you are flirting with me Miss Eniola." I said laughing.
I heard the sound of a choke. I took it as a light hearted joke and I laughed.
"You don't have to deny it." I continued.
"I choked because of the peppersoup I was taking." Eniola whispered.
"And by the way, have you eaten?" Eniola asked.
"No."I said.
"Are you so persistent in getting ulcer?" Eniola teased.
"You keep disturbing my meals unfortunately." I said chuckling.
"Alright, Goodbye J.J." Eniola whispered in tiredness.
"Goodbye Eni." I said smiling.
"Eni?" Eniola asked.
"I can't be the only one with a nickname." I said laughing loudly.
"Whatever. Goodnight." Eniola said and she hung up the phone.
I jumped once more on the couch and threw the phone on the table and inhaled silence. Soon enough I was completely invaded by sleep.
TOLANI'S POV
I paced back and forth pressing my third right finger into my lips. I was enormously fueled in agitation. I knew I shouldn't have shot him but I was bathed in so much venomous anger. And he didn't make it any easier. He was the one who kept spilling words he wasn't meant to.
In the past few weeks,I was a spinster dreaming of getting married and now I was a murderer. I never wished for this but I knew I had to take responsibility. I was just a time bomb that was waiting to explode. I had bottled the pain inside for too long and the consequences weren't as I expected.
What have I done?
I thought I had it under control. I thought I would just shoot him to death without looking at his face. I thought I would enjoy the splatter of his blood but instead I felt disgusted. But everything was going to be over soon. The judge would be dead and I would go back to my normal life.
My normal life was burying myself in newspapers and headphones, refusing to reply any form of pity and crying myself to bed. The reason why it's so hard for me to move on and forget it ever happened is because I was already pregnant. I found out the day he died. It was a day of happiness and sadness. A life lost and another growing in my womb. I fought the urge to cry. This wasn't the right place at all.My thought were stopped by the quick steps of a known figure advancing towards me.
"He's alive!"
ENIOLA'S POVIt was really a bright Tuesday morning as lawyers adjusted their ties and their assistants running behind them to give them a breakdown on the day's turn in. I walked through the stairs with caution as I wanted to impress James with my black jumpsuit. I saw a familiar figure advancing towards me and I smiled and walked faster to catch up with him."You look more handsome than normal." I cooed."You look undeniably stunning Eniola." Ayo said ,blowing an invisible kiss."I know." I said.I grabbed his hands and interlocked it as we walked towards our respective offices."So how's everything?" Ayo said smiling at me."Well it's been a roller-coaster." I chuckled."And James?" Ayo asked."Well he's not so bad and he's kind of annoying" I pouted."It's being a lo
JOHN'S POVI reclined into my seat, reading newspapers were exhausting. The same headlines everyday. I knew that if I wanted to act like a judge at least I should be able to take a book and read on it.I stumbled on a textbook titled Elon Ad Vortem. It was an unfamiliar language that kept me intrigued. I checked it up on the internet and I couldn't belive that the meaning was so simple in contrast to the name itself. It meant Peace and Justice. I opened the pages and flipped through it .It was quite an heavy and voluminous textbook and the bulky paragraphs didn't help my condition.I can't do this. I opted to ask for Eniola's help.I yelled her name but I got no reply. Maybe she was trying to ignore me as usual. I stood up and checked through the glass windows and Eniola was fast asleep like a bird except that she was snoring loudly.I wanted to wake her up but I was scared of th
JOHN'S POV"Eniola why do you have anti-depressants in your bag?" I asked."Well it's for a friend, she asked me to buy it for her." Eniola said smiling."It's half filled Eniola." I stated shaking the bottle."Well it's none of your business." Eniola said grabbing the bottle from my hand."You just made it my business." I screamed."Eniola, get inside the car please." I continued.Eniola looked at me briefly. She waited for me to open the car and she flew into it without saying a word. There was a moment of silence in the car as Eniola kept tapping her hands on her laps in nervousness."I am going to drive to where we can talk about this." I stated.I got no reply from Eniola as she looked outside the window. I sighed deeply and the car kicked into life. There was a provision store nearby a
JAMES'S POV"Are you mad?"That was the first statement that jolted me back to life. The trailer didn't hit me. Apperently, the driver seemed very experienced in situations like this. My eyes opened to meet a furious driver hitting his car in anger."If you wanted to die. You should have taken rat poison instead of saving yourself this stress. Why do you want to implicate me? I can barely make ends meet." He screamed."I am so sorry sir. I didn't mean to jump in front of the road ,I am injured sir. Please help me." I said dropping on my knees. The driver inspected my injuries carefully, drinking in the possibilities of leaving me on the road to die or taking me to an hospital."Are you an armed robber."He said taking few steps backward."No sir, I was kidnapped." I said panting heavily."Alright, I'll get you to a h
JOHN'S POVA part of me felt pity for James and another part was giving in to less concern. I shifted comfortably on the chair wondering how James was ever hospitalized. He might have had cancer, I thought sheepishly. I shifted my head in confusion as the first ray of sunlight entered into my eye and I whispered silently. I stood up and adjusted the window blinds and the door knob shifted again to give a spotlight view of a stunning Eniola in a white gown."Good morning." Eniola greeted shly."Good morning Eni."I said smiling, letting go of the window blinds."Thank you for yesterday." Eniola said dropping a foodflask on my desk."I figured you might not have had breakfast." Eniola continued smiling."Oh yeah. Thank you." I said chuckling.Eniola smiled once more and left. Throughout our brief conversat
JOHN'S POV"What are you doing here?" Mary screamed."And why are you driving James's car?" Mary added."It's not the way you think it is." I said, opening the car door."Tell me the way it is then." Mary said vibrating her leg in an angry manner."You see, James went on a holiday and he didn't want to tell you because you might worry." I said, placing a trembling hand in my pocket."Then why are you with his phone?" Mary asked, raising a brow."He said you disturb him a lot." I said wearing a fake smile.Suddenly she held me by the hem of my suit and screamed."What have you done to your brother?" Mary yelled."How many times do I have to explain that he travelled?" I said raising my arms in pretense."And by the way I just came to relay the message. I would
ENIOLA'S POVKemi dragged my braids backward with a force that was shocking and she garnished my face with a beautiful smack."What do you think you have just done?" I cried out, holding the agonized cheek."I just taught you how to respect people." Kemi said smoothing her hair.I made to drag Kemi by her indecent top but I was stopped by John who stood between us acting as a peacemaker."Why are you stopping me from disciplining her?" I screamed, holding out my right hand."I won't allow my office to be a boxing ring." John said smiling."Let me bring the thunder on her." I retorted, lurging for Kemi's neck."The only thunder you are bringing is by being mature." John yelled, folding his arms meticulously."Alright." I whined, bolting the door. &nb
JOHN'S POVI took one last look at myself in the three quartered mirror in my office to access my look. The suit stuck and clinged to me like a second skin. I knew I was already adding weight. Today was the final hearing of Mr Olugoke. It was a bright Monday morning. Everything felt normal and sequential. There were no news of James but I hoped that he was alright. The tie was laying on the desk but I had no idea how to use it on my neck. The previous ones I used were already laid and crafted in the wardrobe."Do you need help with that?" Eniola said, opening the door slightly."Sure, I had no idea you were there." I chuckled.Eniola walked up to me wearing a grin, she placed a hand on the desk to pick up the tie and threw the tie on my neck. Eniola looked short even though she was in heels. At a point, I felt like a teenager. My heart was beating rapidly because of her soft hands d
