Joan thought that it had to be her fault, so she started feeling a bit guilty. After all, they had promised to meet once a month, and here she was—an entire year later.

Rushing to make amends, she said, “I know it’s my fault. I've been wanting to see you this whole time, but my parents kept me under house arrest, and I just couldn’t get out. I didn’t want to text you about it either because I thought it might just make you feel worse.”
