"Could that be Dylan?" I questioned, my eyes darting between Grandma Adaline and the distant sound of the approaching vehicle. Uncertainty hung in the air as I couldn't tell who it was, unknown casting a shadow over our brief moment of respite.

In response to my query, Grandma Adaline's expression remained unreadable, concern and anticipation flickering in her eyes. Before any of us could make a move, Sonia, ever the swift one, volunteered, "I'll go check quickly." With that, she dashed out of the room, leaving Grandma Adaline and me alone in a tense silence.
