CHAPTER 6

OLIVIA POV.

What did the doctor just say to me?!

I’m pregnant? I shook my head, blinking rapidly as I tried to process what that meant. This can’t be happening. I can’t be pregnant, right?

I glanced over at Alessandro, and he looked just as shocked as I felt. Yet, there was a flicker of amusement on his face that I couldn’t quite understand. This can’t be a good thing! In fact, it’s a terrible thing. Getting pregnant at a time like this, when I can barely feed myself?

The doctor gently packed up and left, with Alessandro’s driver escorting him out, leaving just the two of us alone. My hands trembled as I swallowed hard, desperately trying not to look at him. I couldn’t bring myself to meet his gaze.

Or maybe the doctor made a mistake… right?

I should consult another doctor or use a pregnancy test. I can’t believe him. Nervously, I chewed my fingernails, the uneven edges grazing my teeth. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that I was pregnant with a man I barely even knew!

It’s been more than a week since I woke up. According to the doctor, I was in a coma. For a moment, I contemplated abortion as an option. It’s one thing to be disowned by your family and have nowhere to go; it’s another to be pregnant by a stranger I barely know. I can’t even remember being with him, and now I’m expecting a child.

“Is this why you seduced me?” His deep voice jolted me from my thoughts. Before I could turn around, his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to his chest.

“You wanted to carry my baby, is that it?”

I gulped, trying to look away. I could barely breathe, but my thighs were growing warm from my bare hands resting on his broad chest. A cold chill ran down my spine as he pulled me even closer and sneered.

“Who sent you?” My whole body tensed, and my muscles became rigid with fear. What did he mean by that? I barely know him, so what the hell was he saying?

The fact that he thinks I got pregnant from him less than twenty-four hours ago is almost laughable. But I can’t blame him; he might not know anything about reproduction. I refuse to believe the doctor. If I am carrying a child right now, then it belongs to this stranger and not him.

“I asked you who sent you to seduce me and make me put a child in you?” He breathed, his nostrils flaring.

My heart raced as I replied, “No one.”

He gently let me go, stepping forward to catch me so I wouldn't stumble and fall. Yet, standing just a few inches away, I still shivered in fear as I gazed at him.

“So what do you plan to do with it?” he asked, his tone laced with amusement, as if it were funny, even for a moment.

“I will leave now, and you don't need to worry about me anymore!” I said, clutching my dress tightly and silently praying he would let me go. This child doesn't belong to him, and I can't let him father my child; I barely even know who he is.

Sure, he might be nice and good-looking, but that doesn’t qualify him to be my child's father.

“Leave?” He raised an eyebrow at me. “You want to leave with my child?”

I hated to admit it, but this man standing before me seemed incredibly slow. How could he think that sex from less than twelve hours ago could have resulted in a pregnancy visible enough for the doctor to confirm?

He chuckled and stepped closer, wearing a smile. “Where do you plan to go, Miss Brown?”

My jaw nearly dropped, and my eyes widened in shock as he called me by my family name.

Dammit! How does he know my real identity?

It felt absurd, and I couldn't help but wonder who he really was.

“I’m no longer Miss Brown,” I shot back. “You can just call me by my name.”

He crouched down to match my height, and as he did, his unique scent wafted through my nostrils, bringing back memories of the night before.

“You're the only Miss Brown I know. What are you talking about?”

I felt my face burn with shame as I replied, “I was disowned. So you can call me Miss Olivia. That’s fine by me.”

“No,” he said. “I will call you Kitten—my Kitten.”

I turned to him, eyebrows raised and a bit disgusted. “Kitten? As in a cat?”

“No.” His lips curled into a smile. “My Kitten!”

I rolled my eyes. Whatever he was saying right now wasn’t important to my current predicament. I knew what I needed to do: get the hell out of this place and leave New York tonight. I couldn't let any of my family members know that I was pregnant.

“Thank you for your hospitality, but I would love to leave now. See you…” I was still speaking when he interrupted me.

“You have nowhere to go. Let me help you, Kitten.”

I glared at him. A part of me was curious about what help he might offer, aside from using his big… well, you know.

“Let’s strike a deal,” he blurted out. “Marry me since you have my child, and I’ll help you become Miss Brown again.”

I stared at him, my jaw clenched. This had to be some sort of joke, right? Did he really think this was his child? As crazy as it all sounded and with everything happening so fast, I found myself stupidly considering his offer. I mean, it wasn’t all that bad, was it?

Besides, I had nowhere to go, even if I wanted to take care of my child, and I knew it wasn’t his. Helping me get back everything they took from me? I would sell my soul to make them pay. But then again, a part of me couldn’t understand how he knew my entire identity even before we met. Was this his plan all along?

“So what do you stand to gain in this deal?” I asked suddenly.

He smiled, pausing for a moment as if rehearsing his reply.

“I stand to gain you… kitten!”
