Chapter 3
“I heard you bought the shares of Holiday Wines and married Sophia Brown. Have you gone nuts?” Brandon asked, sipping his wine after both the school friends met in one of the restaurants that Saul owns.
“Yes, you're right.” Saul forked a fish finger and lifted his glass of wine. Brandon saw every moment of his friend was measured.
“Her company has the potential to improve, so I invested in it just like I had been doing all this while….helping the small and medium firms grow big.”
“Don’t tell me stories. I am your friend and I have been seeing you since our school days. Why do you think you rubbed your nose with that evil head and also married her? Brandon asked in shock.
“This is ridiculous. I was glad her company was sinking. And you? I thought you were a wise man, Saul. Are you not satisfied with what she did to you in the past?” Brandon’s questions came pouring which disturbed the serenity inside of Saul.
“Okay let me go straight to the point. I married her for revenge. My ache is much more than you can imagine. I could not simply allow her to repair that sinking company. She is smart and she will bring that firm back on wheels and I don't want that to happen.” Saul had a spark of choler that was unrivaled.
“Do you think it's a smart move when it is at the cost of your own happiness? You have decided to keep your enemy under your own roof.” Brandon cautioned.
“There is no thrill in a game which has no challenges, my dear friend. I want to change her to a helpless woman with no self confidence, I want her to be like the dirt under my shoes and beg me to save her company. Only then will I get the satisfaction of a revenge on her.” Saul’s words were soft but the determination in his eyes to see Sophia mutilated was undaunted.
Twenty minutes later…
“What are you doing here in my bedroom? Get out!” He yelled and removed the covers she was having, waking Sophia all of a sudden in a confused state.
“Is this not our bedroom?” She asked him softly with fear.
“Our bedroom? I loathe to even touch your shadow. Sharing a room is a far gone option.” He spat his words on her with venom.
“Is this the same man who promised to help his wife’s business sail before the whole media and public this morning?” Sophia asked puzzled.
“It was only a show to keep my revenge and your dependence on me intact. I'm not a small-time entrepreneur born yesterday like you who makes sick excuses in court to save her face and keep her company working.” Saul’s eyes were going closed because of alcohol sedation. But suddenly he opened them and they landed straight on her as sharp as the eyes of a lion. “With how many men did you sleep to grant you time, hearing after hearing? I think you have been pulling on this drama for several years. How much more time do you want?
“Enough of your accusations on me. You have no right to speak about something that you don’t know and you have no right to determine my character.”
Saul took a staggering step towards her. Fear dawned on Sophia spreading like a wild fire. With every step he took forward, she took two behind. “You are not in your right state of mind. Let us talk tomorrow.” She whispered while ignoring his sharp gaze on her.
Saul bent a little and looked her in the eye. It felt like something in him sparked and he immediately averted his optics on her. “Wrong choice of words. I have got all the rights for you. You are my wife.” He fell on her like a predatory ghost and watched her with many emotions that she wasn't able to decipher.
Those eyes, whenever they met hers told a story about which she wasn't aware. They weren't necessarily all the time terrifying like he wanted them to be. Sometimes she felt he was hiding his love for her under the facade of anger.
“Why are you silent? I know you are the biggest drama queen to act innocent and take control of affluent and powerful men. You use them for your needs and later discard them like trash. Tell me how many men you slept with?” His question repeated and his hand on her upper arm was so harsh that it would have surely left its print on her.
Sophia hissed in pain. “You're hurting me. Leave.”
Only then did he realize what he was doing to her. Saul left her arm with a jerk and she had to take two steps behind to balance herself.
“You talk as if you know everything about me while our marriage is not even a day old. Why beat around the bush? Tell me why you are so irritated by me. Let's talk and end this forever because to the best of my knowledge, I'm seeing you here for the first time. I have also checked the old records of my firm. But we did not have any near or far connection with Waratah Vineyards. Why are you suddenly an unwanted intruder in my peaceful life? I know I don't suffer any amnesia or short term memory loss.” Sophia concluded.
There goes again….his usual way of avoiding things that he doesn’t want to discuss. “Get out of my room. Can't you understand English? I'm not your servant to make any clarifications to you. Be ready by sharp six tomorrow morning. We start our work early. And this is the card. Otherwise beggars like you are not even allowed to enter the premises, leave about joining my office.”
He closed the door behind her with a thud making her jump on her feet with trepidation. That was the worst humiliation she had ever received from anyone.
Sophia burst into a cry falling on her bed. Her pillow was soaked with tears and did not know when she fell asleep.
The next day when she got up, it was well over eight. Damn! What is the fearsome monster going to do to her now?
She is stumped!
Chapter 4Sophia woke up like a zombie and started doing her morning routine like a machine. By the time she got ready, the breakfast was already arranged on the dining table.“Good morning ma'am, I'm maid Fiona. I cook and clean the house.”“Good morning! I'm late to work. So I will grab something during lunch. Sorry Fiona.” Sophia told in a hurry looking at the time on her watch and almost ran to the door.“I apologize for interrupting ma'am. But sir told you to finish breakfast and then only come to the office. You're going to have a long day.” The maid said politely.“How is the mood of your boss?” Sophia couldn't help but ask her though she knew it was not an appropriate question to a servant working in their home.“I think it's not friendly.” The maid’s information was precise but it was enough to bring crazy goosebumps on the skin of Sophia.Half an hour later she was in the premises of Waratah vineyards head office. “Good morning! The CEO asked me to meet him today.” Sophia sh
Chapter 5Sophia had to reach the 29th floor where the coffee machine was situated using the stairs because the elevator wasn't working. By the time she reached the floor, there was a huge line at the coffee machine. She waited and made black coffee for Saul just as Lara instructed her. “People with black heart always prefer black coffee.” She thought to herself and dragged her feet in high heels back on the staircase.“Why are you so late? Does making a simple coffee take twenty minutes? Or you were on your way impressing another man over there who could clear your company’s dues?” Saul asked while taking the cup of coffee from the tray.Sophia tightened her lips in indignation. “The elevator broke. I had to take the stairs to bring coffee for you. Even near the coffee machine there was a huge line. I had to wait in the list.”“Are you Queen Victoria that people will give space for you leaving their turn?” He asked, sipped his coffee and put on a face like he was about to puke. Saul
Chapter 6“But today, I wish to have a latte.” Saul said, leaning back and relaxing on his super soft leather chair while staring at her in a dare. She raised a finger to him in a warning. “Look, I don't have all the time to serve you coffee. I'm here to learn about work.”Saul raised a single brow and gave a lopsided grin. “My office, my rules. If you don’t want to do it, you can…” “Stop.” Sophia already knew what was coming out of him. “I will go and bring a latte for you.”Thankfully the elevator was working today. The devil had finally decided to relax her torture. She knew the lift was working for everyone in the office the previous day but for her. It was all a part of his plan to make her suffer. She had made the latte and brought it to him within five minutes. “Hmm, it tastes good. So tell me what is my schedule today.”“Schedule? Isn’t Lara going to make it?”Saul looked at her boredly. “I don't have a money minting machine here with which I can feed two assistants. Since yo
Chapter 7“Don't sleep like a log because I announced Christmas vacation for the staff. The vacation is for my employees. It's not for famous personalities like you whom I love dearly and always want to keep by my side. So tomorrow we are going to Los Santos by early morning flight.” Saul informed Sophia while passing through her room to reach his.Sophia resisted the urge to roll her eyes. He was acting as if he had been so considerate towards her. It has been fifteen days since she joined Saul’s company and there has been no weekend and no holiday for her. Every day she gets up at 4:30 in the morning, rushes with her routine and is seen before the Waratah Vineyards head office by six in the morning. “I thought I was your employee because I did not get any extra benefits of being your favorite person.”
Chapter 8“The flight has been waiting for us for half an hour but you wouldn't open your eyes. Are you on drugs?” He shouted at her with unlimited indignation.Sophia looked around her, feeling disoriented because of sleep. But when her eyes finally landed on Saul, she felt more like he was acting his anger upon her rather than really having it. That dream…was it really her dream with her in Saul’s arms or it was reality?Ten minutes later the flight was in the air and the air hostess was openly flirting with him flashing her goods. “Good morning sir! What can I get you for breakfast? We have chicken noodles and fried eggs with toast.”Sophia’s lips tightened in anger but
Chapter 9“Hey Liam, how are you?” Sophia's voice turned cheerful no sooner she saw the number flashing on her phone’s screen.Saul wouldn’t let her learn anything. He is just keeping her with him in his company and home for revenge. But what he doesn't know is Sophia had never been a subservient woman. She has her plans to say goodbye to him permanently.Last month she met one of her business friends, Liam Colon who offered to help her with the money needed for restructuring her business. If everything goes well, she will purchase Saul’s share from her company and ask him out of her life and business. It is not easy but she will do her best to win this battle for her firm.&ldquo
Chapter 10Saul was watching her retreating form from the window. The girl was a spitfire who made his hackles at the drop of the hat. Yet, she had something in her that often drew him towards her.****By the time Sophia reached the venue, Liam was already waiting for her at one of the tables. There were various stalls each hosting their specialty in wine along with some food stalls too. Apple cider was served as complimentary.A bright smile featured on him as soon as he saw Sophia. “Hello Sophia, I'm so glad you could finally make up to come here.” He bent a little and kissed her cheek giving a side hug.“How can I say no to
Chapter 11“When a girl says no, it's a no. You have to accept it and get out of her life.” Saul raised up his finger to Liam in a warning.Liam wet his lips with the tip of his tongue and menace ruling his eyes. “So you're the temporary husband of Sophia. Her dad told me about your contract marriage with her ”Saul chuckled loudly looking down at the pathetic state of Liam with his hands resting on his waist. “When I can make the contracts, I can destroy them too. So don’t call me temporary. Sophia stays mine as long as I want her to be. If I see you next time roaming around her, you will not see the next day’s sunrise.” Saul said in a browbeat to Liam and picked up Sophia.
Chapter 94The bullet struck the left side of his chest. Luckily he has a dextrocardia. According to medical terminology, it is the condition where the subject’s heart points to the right of the chest instead of his left.As against Sherlock’s expectation that he would be killed on the spot, Saul not only came out of his hiding place and also shot him on his arm. As a result, the pistol he held fell on the floor.Sherlock looked at him stunned as if he was a devil from the Netherworld. Saul made a timely decision. Every added moment that the former lived was a risk to Sophia. Saul could not think of a better time to kill him. While Sherlock was still under the stupor on how Saul was still alive, he shot him point blank to see him dead instantly.
Chapter 96That day Saul returned home in the afternoon much against Sophia's expectation. “Hey Sweetheart, I'm home early today.” Saul called for her from the living room, loosening up his tie. He removed his coat and threw it in one of the couches and walked to the fridge for water.Sophia was watching him from the long corridor connecting the two large winding staircases. But she did not reciprocate him. The anger in Sophia was unparallelled on him for keeping her in darkness about his identity.“Sophia? Where are you? My hand hurts. Can you get me those painkillers that the doctor prescribed?” He took out a cheese sandwich from the fridge and put it in the microwave for heating as he was hungry.
Chapter 93“Sir” the guard spoke on the phone. “I am sorry to disturb you at this late hour. But the intensity of the situation demanded it. There was an old woman passing through the gates of our estate. She was handicapped and was using a stick to walk.”“And? What am I to do with her handicap? Why are you narrating children’s stories by waking me in the middle of the night?” Saul was about to blow the fuse in temper. His derring-do bass voice struck a chord in the guard’s throat.“She gave me a letter.” He shivered stating the reason. It felt bizarre for someone passing by to hand over a fictitious letter to me. Suspecting it to be a bomb or something dangerous, we called for a diffuser and got it opened. I
Chapter 91They heard a tweaking sound. His legs gave up and Lawrence fell on the chair behind him. His eyes got closed off and hands shivered. “Aah”Saul immediately went and held his hand. “What happened to you?”“I feel this sort of dizziness very often these days. The doctor told me my hemoglobin is low but I do not feel like eating anything. Every day I'm given the same bland diet that doesn't have any spice or salt. I do not like it. So I eat less. And this is the result of that.” He spoke weakly, keeping his eyes closed.“But you ate well this afternoon? Why don’t you take some iron capsules? Are you a baby fussing for your favourite food? Saul asked him.
Chapter 92“What are you doing? Do you want to prepare your enemy for your attack so that he can skillfully counter you in future with his army of men? Don’t ever underestimate the power of your enemy. That will be called over confidence and it can lead you to a very big danger. Stay quiet. Speech is silver but silence is golden.” Lawrence instructed Saul before his voice could reach the recipient and cut off the call.“Nice thought. But how will I know the name of my enemy if I don't speak to him?” Saul spoke angrily.“I did not think you could be so stupid after staying so many years in the mafia. Get your PI into work, to track this number.” He pointed to the phone. “You will get the location along with the name of the calle
Chapter 90“Water is the life of a fish. You remove the water, the fish is as such dead. You are the water and she is the fish. It's like two birds in one shot.” Lawrence voiced with introspection.“Jesus! Is this guy a man eater? What is your story with Mariya?” Saul moved forward with hands on his knees and looked at him with complete attention.“Mariya was like a sister to me.” Lawrence stated as a matter of fact. But his truth made Saul choke on his own spit.“You give earth shattering surprises with the least emotion.” He spoke between his coughs. “Your life is full of complexities as big as a daily soap series.” He spoke with absolute wrat
Chapter 89“You're Saul Campbell alias Greg Warner. I know. Do you think I will marry my daughter to an alien about whom I do not have any information? Sophia is my life and my daughter. I did a complete background check upon you before marrying her to you. Like I told you earlier, you did not choose her. Before that I chose you as her groom.” He said proudly.Saul was dumbfounded with the information. He did not know to treat it as a compliment or insult. “Do not keep beating around the same point, that you chose me for her.” He said irritatedly massaging his forehead with his forefingers.“Why, your ego got hurt? You thought you were the only most intelligent man born on earth? Everyone has got their own smartness. But some brag about it while
Chapter 88“Yes Mariya was pregnant when I married her. I knew about it and agreed to our wedding. Sophia is not my daughter but I'm still her father because I brought her up with these hands and filled the gap of her mother too since she was six. I vouched to be her protector till my last breath. To keep her safe, I manipulated her birth records because there is someone very vicious behind her life.” Lawrence finally told Saul the truth.“Who is behind Sophia’s life?” Saul rose up from his seat in a hint of fury.Lawrence replied as stoically as possible. “Someone whose sinning velocity you can’t estimate.”“What? Come straight. Who is he? Why is he behind her l
Chapter 87“Fuck! How old is Sophia exactly? I need the complete birth details of her?"Van looked at his boss baffled. It was the first time he was hearing softness in his tone other than a command. The all-power mafia leader who only dominated people 24/7 has a gentle and caring side too. It was a discovery to Van."Sure sir, in a while. Ten minutes later he walked back with a slip. "Sophia Brown was born on 21st February 2000 at 5:30pm at Red Cross Hospital Zurich."Saul choked as soon as he heard the information. That means the date of birth details that were submitted at the university when they joined London school of Business were wrong. Why did Lawrence duplicate the birth details of Sophia? Some
