"So mum and dad, were right?" Aiden thought, sitting on the bed.
Aiden could not sleep and decided to distract himself with some work. He turned on his laptop and started working reading about the other businesses of the family. The following week, he would have to visit all the business branches to understand how things run over there and what he can bring on board.
In Ana's room, the nurse was done for the day and was in her room sleeping but Ana could not sleep. She was wondering what was happening at home. Why would her mother sign such a contract and not even mention it to her? If she had not woken up, she would have carried a child and delivered it without knowing. Ana tossed and turned in bed thinking about it. She got down from the bed and decided to walk around a little to clear her head. She walked to the door and realized it was locked. She recalled another term in the contract, she could not go out of her room without permission. She went back to the bed and sat down.
In the morning, Aiden booked a flight to Canada. He wanted to see Monica to understand exactly what happened and why she would make such a decision. The nurse had also woken up and was attending to Ana.
"You couldn't sleep?" the nurse asked seeing she looked exhausted.
"If you were in my shoes, can you sleep?" Ana asked and the nurse couldn't answer.
She gave Ana her medication and went out of the room returning with a tray of food. The food looked very attractive and tasty but the flavour made Ana frown.
"I can't eat this," Ana said.
"What do you want? Anything you prefer?" the nurse asked knowing it was not Ana trying to be difficult but the pregnancy was making her reject the food.
"I don't know," Ana said.
She was not happy with all that was happening to her. She wanted to see her mother and understand what was happening and how it happened.
"Please, I need to see my mum. Can you arrange that for me?" Ana asked pleading with the nurse.
The nurse felt sorry for her. She was only doing her job but she could see Ana was a prisoner. She was not allowed to go out of the room. No visitors and all alone. For someone who has a family, this was an unfair treatment for her.
"I will see what I can do. It is not a promise but let me speak with the doctor," the nurse said.
"I am Ana and you are?" Ana asked with a smile.
"I am Haga," the nurse replied.
"Thank you, Haga," Ana appreciated.
"I will leave this here. There are fruits, baked stuff, and juices. If you crave anything, let me know and I will get it for you," Haga said before exiting the room.
Inside her room, which was next to Ana's Haga called Dr Jerome.
"Hello Dr, Ana looked very exhausted this morning and she had not eaten," Haga reported.
"Have you administered any medication?" Dr Jerome asked.
"Only the ones she can take on an empty stomach but she has to eat," Haga said.
"She requested to see her mother. Can that be arranged? Her restlessness is linked with loneliness," Haga said.
"Alright. Let me speak with Mr Scott about that," Dr Jerome said and ended the call
Dr Jerome called Aiden's phone immediately after the call. Aiden was at the airport. He had gotten a new phone and gotten his number back. He was about to turn off his phone when Dr Jerome's call came through.
"Hello, what is it?"Aiden said.
"It is about Ms Morrison," Dr Jerome began and Aiden interrupted.
"If it is about me spending time with her, that is what I pay you for," Aiden said.
"No, it is not about that. She asked to see her mother," Dr Jerome said.
"What for?" Aiden asked.
"I am not sure exactly but she feels alone locked up in there. Mr Scott, please," Dr Jerome pleaded." Her health is very important," she added.
"Fine, I don't want any stranger in my home. Take her to your place and arrange for her mother to see her. Make sure no one sees her," Aiden said.
"Okay Mr Scott," Dr Jerome acknowledged and called Haga back.
"I am sending my driver over. Get her ready," Dr Jerome said as soon as Haga answered.
Haga went back to Ana's room. She opened the wardrobe and brought out a dress with a hoodie and gave it to Ana.
"Put this on, we are going out to see your mother," Haga announced and Ana smiled for the first time.
Once Ana was dressed, Haga went out of the room with her. She had asked Ana to keep her head down. Haga held Ana's hand and led her down the staircase. Angela saw them leave but said nothing. There was a black tainted car parked at the entrance of the apartment. Haga opened the door for Ana and she sat down in the back seat. Haga joined Ana in the back seat and the car went out of the compound towards Dr Jerome's home.
After a couple of minutes' drive, the car entered a compound and Haga stepped out of the car with Ana, who still had her head down. Haga led Ana into the apartment.
"Ana," came Mrs Morrison's voice.
"Mum," Ana said and hugged her.
"I will leave you two to talk," Haga said and exited the room for the two.
"Ana, how are you doing? You are glowing. Pregnancy looks good on you," Mrs Morrison said.
"I am just coping. Mum, what happened?" Ana asked and Mrs Morrison lowered her head.
"Mum, what is wrong?" Ana asked seeing her mother didn't look okay.
"I really sorry, Ana. If I had another option, I would not sacrifice you like that. Your sister is too young to be a surrogate mother and I have passed the age of childbirth," Mrs Morrison said.
"A couple of days ago before you shared the news of getting the scholarship, I passed out at work and was sent to the hospital, Mrs Morrison said and lowered her head as Ana listened to her.
"I was diagnosed with cancer and had to start treatment immediately. I was told about a rich man looking for a woman to be a surrogate mother. I went to see him and signed the contract with your sister present. I had told them I couldn't bring myself to tell you. The day you went for the medical exams, that was when it was done. I was just waiting for the right time to tell you about the pregnancy and other things but you passed out. I called Dr Jerome and they took you away," Mrs Morrison narrated and gave the medical documents to Ana who read through the report with eyes widened.
"You have cancer?" Ana asked and Mrs Morrison lowered her head.
Ana hugged her.
"I am so sorry Mum," Ana tried to console her.
"I was told I need to start the chemo treatment immediately so the cancer doesn't spread to other parts of my body," Mrs Morrison said.
"It is okay Mum. I understand," Ana said hugging Mrs Morrison.
"I am sorry Ana. I should have told you," Mrs Morrison said in tears.
"Don't worry, Mum. Your health is what matters most to me. Don't worry. I will do my best to help raise the money for your treatment," Ana said and continued to hug Mr Morrison as they both shared tears.
"Don't worry, Mum. Your health is what matters most to me. Don't worry. I will do my best to help raise the money for your treatment," Ana said and continued to hug Mrs Morrison as they both shared tears. Ana and her mother spent time together before Haga took Ana back to Aiden's apartment. Upon arrival, Ana was sent back to her room and Haga stayed with her."Is there anything you would like to eat?" Haga asked."I am okay with whatever you will give me," Ana replied feeling downcast. The nurse was worried. She had thought that if Ana sees her mother, emotionally she will be okay but now she looks worse than before. Haga exited the room and returned with a bowl of potato soup with fish. Ana frowned the moment Haga opened the covered food and the flavour went into Ana's nostrils."What, you don't want?" Haga asked seeing the look on Ana's face.Ana shook her head in a no and Haga sighed "Look, Mr Scott will not be happy if he hears you are starving yourself. It is past noon and you
"I will also not be a slave to love again," Monica whispered as she wiped her tears away getting ready for her next shoot."It is over. My beautiful love story is over," she thought touching her lips. "Ready for your makeover," came the makeup artist and Monica inhaled deeply before nodding. Aiden on the other hand, left the set back to the airport. He paid for the next available flight not ready to spend even a minute in Toronto. While he waited for his flight, memories of himself and Monica ran through his mind. Monica on the other hand was no different, she was unable to focus and take her pictures. The shoots were all coming out terrible. "Ms Hapkins is everything alright?" the director asked. "No, please. Can I take a break?" Monica asked. "Sure, let's call it a day. We continue tomorrow," the director said and Monica moved away from the set. Back in California, Aiden's apartment, Angela opened the door for Dr Jerome. He greeted her and went upstairs. He entered Ana's room
"Well, he is not back from work yet. So I waiting to find out who is in that room," Ruth said."Okay, Mum. You are right," Ruth replied still holding the phone to her ears sitting in the living room with her legs crossed. The call ended and Ruth called Angela to the living room."Now tell me, who is that in that room?" Ruth asked."Ma'am, I am telling the truth. I don't know," Angela replied."Are you as useless as you look?" Ruth asked angrily and Angela was silent. "How long have you been working for my brother?" she asked."Three years," Angela replied."Good, get ready for retirement," Ruth said and stood up."Ma'am, I swear to you. I don't know anything. Sir, asked me never to go up to the side of the room. Only one person goes up there but that is just to clean. I only work here, please," Angela said on her knees."Now we are getting somewhere. Who cleans that room? Get me the person," Ruth said and sat back down.Angele left the room immediately and returned with another maide
"Hello, Mum," Aiden said as soon as he answered. "Aiden, who is that woman in your apartment?" Mrs Scott questioned and Aiden frowned. "You will have to be specific, Mum," Aiden said. "I understand you are keeping a woman in your apartment," Mrs Scott said. "I have a lot of women in my apartment. So what are you talking about?" Aiden asked. "Don't play smart with me, Aiden. You know what I am talking about," Mrs Scott said. "Mum, to be honest, I don't. I will appreciate it if you will be more clear and I can give you an answer," Aiden replied. "Ruth just left your apartment and she said there is a pregnant woman in your apartment," Mrs Scott said. "I like the fact that you said it is my apartment. And again, I have a lot of females in my apartment. I don't have a restraint on their sexual relationship," Aiden replied not ready to tell Mrs Scott about Ana. "So one of your servants got pregnant?" Mrs Scott asked. "How am I to know? I don't suppose you think I sleep with my se
"I will have someone take care of that," Mr Scott said and fetched his phone. He dialled a number and after confirming the name of the hospital spoke to someone instructing the person to go to the hospital and get rid of Ana and the baby. "Now that is taken care of. Tomorrow I will be meeting with the senator and we can finalize the marriage arrangement," Mr Scott said. "That is perfect," Mrs Scott said. "I will be in my room," Ruth said and left the living room. Back at Aiden's apartment, Aiden was lying on the sofa of his small office asleep with the empty bottle of whisky and glass on the floor. Angela turned off the lights and went to bed after completing her duties for the day. So did all the servants to their rooms. At the hospital, Haga was on night duty. Dr Jerome prepares to leave for home after assigning Haga to attend to Ana. His shift will start again in the morning. He was doing a straight day, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. He had stayed in the hospital till late because of Ana
"Hello Dr Jerome, why this early morning call?" Aiden asked."It is about Ana," Dr Jerome said. "I don't care about her. Is that the baby okay?" Aiden said and Dr Jerome sighed."Okay, if that is how you want it. I have reasons to believe someone wants to harm your unborn child," Dr Jerome said."What happened?" Aiden asked his heart racing because he had decided to care for the child giving him all his love with no plans to fall in love again."I changed Ana's ward, I mean the baby's ward, without updating the system with the changes. This was to make it easier for Nurse Haga to attend to the baby," Dr Jerome said and paused for 5 seconds. "A pregnant woman who was sent to the room where your baby was previously occupying was found dead this morning," he narrated."Mr Scott, if you want to keep the baby safe, we have to move Ana from here. Someone knows and wants to harm both mother and child. She is not safe here," Dr Jerome added."Have my baby discharged and brought back to my ap
At the family house, Mr Scott was on the call looking very angry. "You eliminated the wrong person," Mr Scott said on the call. "Find that girl and correct your mistake else I will hand you over to the police myself, " Mr Scott said angrily and disconnected the call."I can't believe they messed this up but do you know who the girl is?" Mrs Scott asked doubting Aiden got involved with one of his servants."Who she is would not be important if she is no more," Mr Scott said. "Hmmm, I don't want anything messing up our plans," Mrs Scott said tapping her knees impatiently. "How about this, let's go see the senator tomorrow and announce Aiden's marriage. Whatever relationship he has with that pregnant girl will end," Mrs Scott suggested. "Yes, that will work and it will also stop Aiden from getting involved with another woman," Mr Scott said, smiling at his wife. At Aiden's private property. Dr Jerome was with Aiden sharing his usual report on Ana's health but realized Aiden was not l
The dietician just stood up and left. Aiden was angry but it was not because of what the dietician said but because the dietician was a woman. What Monica did to him was still fresh in his memory and he had not been able to forgive her. "Women. They will ask for everything to be comfortable expecting men to provide and later turn around to betray you," Aiden said looking at the closed door with a frown. At the family house, Mr and Mrs Scott were getting into the car parked in front of the apartment entrance. Their driver brought the engine to life and drove out of the compound towards the senator's office. It was late afternoon when they arrived at the office and they were ushered in by the secretary. "Mr Thatcher, how are you?" Mr Scott said offering Mr Thatcher a handshake. "It has been great. I get occupied with so much work lately," Mr Thatcher replied and also greeted Mrs Scott. "Once I become the prime minister, rest assured, I will be helping with the workload," Mr Scott s
