" What happened to her?" David crouches down beside me, checking Alice's pulse, while I keep her head in my lap and try not to freak out.

"She fainted, we need to take her to the hospital." I say, urgency and panic lacing my voice, looking at my best friend's pale face and blood staining her clothing. David's fingers touched mine for a few milliseconds before he pulled her weight onto him and lifted her off the ground, yelling for me to follow. I did. My feet followed his steps to the elevator, then out into the garage to his car. When we finally arrive at the hospital, Alice is awake and having a quiet conversation with Eduardo on her cell phone, and although I try hard not to pay attention to the dialogue, the cramped space makes me hear the wrong words and wrinkle my nose.
