"It was self-defense." David speaks after long minutes of silence, his black irises nailed to me, confident and determined. His face is swollen and bruised, but he still exudes power and authority. "Carlota kidnapped us and threatened to take the lives of my wife and son, Kaciana only acted on instinct." He adds and I don't let his words through.

''Self-defense.'' Alice repeats and I feel Edward's eyes on me, on David. Whatever he's thinking, he's not going to argue.

"Your mother was with Charlotte on this plane, Nelly. Her conversation with my sister made it clear that there was a partnership, and we also saw a woman when we got here. Kaciana is dangerous.
