"Everything considered, what do you say, Eliza? Will you go to the Snow Ball with me?"
Dallas spoke with such ease, it could have looked like he were planning to ask me for months. Confidence was in the atmosphere around him. A smirk danced on his lips, his eyes glinting with mischief and intrigue.
I didn't know he knew my name.
I stood there with a straight face-not that great quantities of emotions showed on my expression otherwise.
I wanted to scream "what the hell?"
But I stood there, eyes narrowed suspiciously on Dallas.
He raised his eyebrows, awaiting an answer.
The hallway was silent, with so many people crowded around and watching in anticipation.
Oh, the Golden Dallas Rolland asking this girl to the ball? Hell must be freezing over.
I sure as hell couldn't wrack my mind for any explanation as to why he was asking me.
There was no way this was-come on. This has to be a joke. This is one big practical joke. It has to be.
Why would I ever, in the right mind, say yes?
I wouldn't.
Although...
I don't know if he's messing with me. I could play along, see where this goes out of pure curiosity. This whole ordeal was making my day turn out to be much more eventful and entertaining.
Additionally, if I happen to consider all the factors, it would be very nice to shove in River's face that I can indeed get someone like her high and mighty Dallas Rolland-without even trying.
I suppose it wouldn't be terrible to show River, her minions, and my friends that I can go to a stupid ball with a stupid boy.
To prove myself, sounds like a sweet victory.
"Yes."
I spoke flatly, my eyes still narrowed on Dallas.
Gasps went through the crowd but the loudest one belonged to River who stood behind me.
"Yes?" Despite his smirk, Dallas marginally narrowed his eyes-like he was trying to decipher whether I was being serious or not.
I shrugged. "Sure. I'll go to the ball with you."
I walked past Dallas, leaving many people astonishingly confused.
-
"Hey there, Eliza."
At the end of the school day, Dallas appeared. He leaned against the locker next to mine. He watched me carefully with his signature smirk still lying on his face.
I glanced at him, flatly. I then turned back to shoving my books into my backpack. Dallas watched me as I packed my bag and shut my locker. He continued watching as I swung my bag over my shoulder and started walking down the hallway.
"Hi." I spoke dully. I knew he would follow me.
"Delayed response?" From the corner of my eye, I saw him quirk an eyebrow.
"I didn't want to say the wrong thing."
I almost laughed at my insincere response.
"And all you came up with was a simple hi?" He laughed lightly.
"It seemed fitting." I shrugged.
"You are-" he paused for a moment, licking his lips. "Fascinating." He held the door open for me to exit the school. I looked at him for a split second before walking through, Dallas following behind.
I didn't say anything. He followed me to where my car was parked when he swerved in front of me, blocking my path so I could not enter my car.
"Do you mind?"
He only grinned, tilting his head. "What are your plans-this Friday?"
I blew air in my cheeks. "I don't know. Maybe find a cure to cancer-save some drowning fish if I have time. I'll find something."
Dallas's eyes were dancing with amusement. "A comedian in my midst. I will take that as a negative, you don't have plans."
I rolled my eyes, sighing. I could continue with the sarcasm but the sooner this conversation ended, the sooner I could get home. "Why are you asking?"
He stood up straighter, peering down at me. "I would like you to come grab smoothies with me-after school."
I narrowed my eyes. "What if I don't like smoothies?"
"Then-coffee."
"If I don't like coffee?" I stared at him blankly.
"Then-" he blew air out in his cheeks. "We can get lemonade."
"If it's too sour for my liking?"
"Then, burgers." He raised his eyebrows.
"If I'm not hungry?" I tilted my head to the side, feigning a look of innocence. I wonder how long he'll put up with me.
"Then-we can read a book." His nose scrunched lightly. "If not that either, we can sit. Just sit." He shot me a cheeky grin.
I paused for a moment. "Why did you resort to reading-of all things?"
Dallas shrugged. "Reading brings knowledge. What do you say?"
"Say-about what?" I asked innocently, bringing myself amusement and hopefully him some annoyance.
Dallas looked at me flatly. "About Friday."
"What's on Friday?" I continued.
"Eliza." He spoke firmly, looking at me seriously.
"Dallas," I responded, in the same firm tone. I could do this all day.
Dallas inhaled deeply, his head shaking lightly. "What do you say about this Friday? Coming out with me-on Friday." He spoke slowly, looking me straight in the eye as if a stare-down would intimidate me enough to stop teasing.
I tilted my head. "Why would I join you?"
Dallas grinned again. "Because you agreed to go to the ball with me-and because I would like you to join me."
I paused for a moment. "If I say yes will you move out of my way."
Dallas smirked, stepping out of my way. "I will see you later, Eliza."
With a wink, he walked away.
I was sitting in AP English, finishing a handout to pass time as I waited for the bell to ring-signalling class to start."Eliza."I didn't bother looking up as Preslie called out my name in a sing-song voice. She hopped into the desk beside mine. "It has been three days since Dallas asked you-and you have refused to talk about it. You haven't said a word about it."I continued jotting down answers on my paper. "Have you also been timing how many seconds it's been since Black Sabbath broke up?"Preslie rolled her eyes at my remark. She leaned over, hovering over me to catch my attention. "I just want some details!""You were right there when it happened. You know the story as well as I do." It was almost amusing how much Preslie was highlighting this. At least one of us was excited about the ordeal I had put myself in.Preslie groaned. "At least tell me what the plan for tonight is.""What is the plan for tonight?" I asked, still looking at my papers with a playful smirk on my face. I
"Our very own, Eliza Stavros is attending the ball-willingly and not alone, but with the exceptional Dallas Rolland.""Dom, shut up." I shut my locker with extra force than necessary.Dom had been one of my closest friends since I was a kid. I knew this situation was very amusing to him. I was surprised he hadn't brought it up sooner."What? I just didn't know there was really a girl in there." He grinned cheekily and swung his arm around my shoulders as we started walking down the hall."Very funny." I mumbled sarcastically, shaking my head. "The world is in desperate need of all your humour-so I thank you, for sharing it with me.""Anything for you, darling." He winked as we both sat down in the cafeteria. "In seriousness, what got you to say yes to Dallas?""God knows." I groaned, rubbing my forehead as I was starting to sense a headache forming. "I'll probably regret it more than I'm going to regret not hiding the body."Dom only blinked. He looked at me as if he were trying to re
"Hey."I glanced over to see Orion walk into my AP biology class and swerve into the seat beside mine."Hi." I mumbled awkwardly, confused by his presence. I knew he was in this class but I never once associated with him."This is weird, right?" He narrowed his eyes lightly, chuckling a bit. "I mean, I don't think I've ever once talked to you in this class." I guess he sensed it was a little unusual too."Very unsubtle but very true." I smiled a little. "I didn't expect to see you anytime soon."Orion tugged on his uniform's tie, leaning back in his chair. "Why is that?"I shrugged. "I don't know-different social groups.""You're the only talk around the school right now." Orion quirked an eyebrow."Perks of accepting stupid proposals." I grinned faintly.Orion chuckled softly. "It was-interesting."I scoffed. "That's one word for it."Orion and I fell into easy conversation the rest of the class. We talked about Gilmore Girls-which was surprising, to hear he watched the show. We talk
"A few of us are going out on Friday-nothing special, just for pizza. You are coming with." Dallas leaned against the locker next to mine, grinning like a madman. He wasn't asking, he was demanding with such ease, it was like second nature to him.I shut my locker, with force. I glared at him. "I am also going whale hunting and planning a backpacking trip through Mexico."I walked past him but it didn't come as a surprise that he followed behind me."Sounds fun. Room for an extra body?" He was back to his usual amusement at my lack-of-it."Only the ones I'm hiding in the trunk," I grumbled.Dallas leaned closer into my side. "If we soak that in some sulfuric acid, I'll take the bodies place." He swung an arm around my shoulders.I shoved him off me, turning my body to face him. "I will gladly diminish the air from your lungs and stuff your rotting corpse body in the trunk."Dallas blinked, taken by surprise. He retracted, stepping back and putting his hands up in defence. "Someone is-
"Dallas has been awfully clingy considering you two are just dates to a ball." Dom raised an eyebrow. We sat in front of the fireplace in my lounge room on the couch, mugs with hot chocolate in our hands.I sipped on the hot chocolate before placing the cup down in my lap and adjusting the blanket around our shoulders. "Beats me. If I knew a way to get him to leave me alone then I could probably also find a cure for Influenza.""It doesn't annoy you?"Dom and I had been close since we were kids. He was like a brother to me-so it wasn't weird having him ask me about these things, nor was it weird talking to him about it. It was easier than it was talking to Ocean and Preslie because with Dom, I could be more open and honest and his perspective was different than theirs."Of course it does, Dom." I laughed lightly because that was a stupid question. "The more I try to get him to back off me, the more it seems like he pesters me.""So he's doing it to-I don't know, tease you?" Dom asked,
I didn't know why I asked Dallas out for coffee.Part of me felt guilty because I was being mean without meaning to. He was just being friendly, trying to get to know me.Although I didn't know why.Maybe I felt obligated to hang out with him after what he said to me-maybe a small part of me did want to talk to him.He-somehow, peaked my curiosity.Sort of.He sounded oddly sincere when he said he wanted to get to know me.Maybe he wasn't as bad as I thought."Why did you chose red?""Huh?" I looked up from my coffee mug I was staring at."I mean-why did you chose to wear red to the ball?" Dallas asked, taking a moment to stop eating his muffin."Because-it was the only decent dress." I looked at Dallas like he was an absolute idiot, baffled by the stupid question. I wasn't even sure how to answer that."What if-the same dress was in purple?" He inquired, quirking his eyebrow."Then it would be in purple." I blinked. His line of questioning was amusing, to say the least. However, I di
"Where do you think you're going?"I was stopped in the middle of the hallway by none other than River and I wasn't surprised."To class," I said flatly, my face straight."Nuh-uh." She shook her head, a wicked smirk laying on her lips. "We need to have a little chit-chat." Who the hell says chit-chat?Before I could tell her to screw off, she yanked my arm and dragged me into an empty classroom."What the hell, River?" I snapped as she shut the door behind us.She turned to face me. Slowly, she narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest."What do you want?" I pressed, talking slowly. "And where are your minions?""They aren't minions," she rolled her eyes. She stood in front of the door as if she were guarding it because she probably assumed I'd make a run for it. I would have, too. "Tell Dallas you won't go to the ball with him."I scoffed and looked at her in disbelief, "Why would I do that?""Because he only asked you out of obligation." She muttered bitterly, a sour lo
"Hey." Orion exhaled, standing at my doorstep."Hi." I sighed, stepping out and closing the door behind me."Your house is really nice." He complimented as we started walking down the driveway to his car. "And uh... you look nice."I smiled, "Thank you, my moms, big on the interior and exterior designing. And thank you again, I... I don't know, it's a party and if I show up in sweats I won't hear the end of it from Preslie." I was a little flattered because I wasn't wearing anything special. I was in a casual but cute outfit. I was just glad it was too cold out for girls to be dressed in bras and booty shorts. These were the many reasons I hated parties.Orion chuckled, "She is very persistent.""Very." I chuckled lightly as Orion opened the car door for me and waited for me to get in before closing the door and walking around the car."I don't usually see you at these parties. Not that I go to many myself unless I'm dragged there." Orion glanced at me for a split second before focusi

"Preslie, can you hurry up? I can't feel my ass." I groaned, tapping my foot impatiently as I waited for her to finish curling my hair."Stop whining, you look amazing." She smiled as she finished the last strand. "We've been waiting for tonight for so long and now it's finally here. How do you feel?""We weren't waiting for it, you were." I rolled my eyes, standing up and taking a look at myself in the mirror. I had to admit that I did look pretty good.I liked my dress more than I thought now that I was all dressed up. Preslie was going on all morning about the ball since it was just in a week. I wasn't surprised to hear her yapping off about it but eventually I was tired and irritated of talking about how she wanted to curl her hair so I left.In our school, on the third floor there was a room at the end of the hall that had these massive windows that went up to the roof and overlooked the whole entire football field, parking lot and even further. No students were allowed in there unless it was for a necessary reason but me being me, I somehow had a key. 8 Months Later "Eliza Stavros, will you do me the honour of being my date to the Snow Ball this year?" Dallas was down on a knee, holding out a ranunculus in the middle of the ice rink, people still skating around us in a circle. My cheeks heated up like they still always did every time he said or did something cheesy. Months had gone by and I still got jitters from him. I grabbed Dallas's hands in mine as he stood up, holding me close. "I would love to." Dallas grinned, leaning down to softly kiss my lips. And like that, we were once again flowered in the feeling like we were standing in the most beautiful snow globe. The end.
