Tessa sighed as she sifted through the reports. She found it odd that there was no history from his childhood, but based on the sheets in her hands, nothing in Alpha Monroe's file that warranted their suspicion. He seemed to be a respected Alpha who ran a reputable business and didn’t even have a speeding ticket on his record.

The next folder on her desk, labeled photos, piqued Tessa’s interest. "Let's take a look at this "perfect” Alpha. He's probably some sissy raised with a silver spoon in his mouth," her wolf teased.

Tessa chuckled and leaned back in her chair while unraveling the string around the folder. “What would this perfect man look like,” she smirked, but there was a knock at the door before she pulled out the first photo.

"Come in," she announced to her visitor, placing the folder on top of her desk as the door opened. "Oh, what brings you here Elijah," she asked, stretching her arms above her head.

"I brought you something to eat since you missed lunch, Alpha," he answered, gesturing to the tray in his hands and the steaming coffee mug.

Tessa looked at the clock on her computer and couldn’t believe the time. "You’re right. I can’t believe I lost track of time," she yawned, bringing her hand up to massage her neck. The hours of sitting over paperwork were catching up to her.

A soft click brought her attention back to Elijah and she didn't miss the way his eyes tracked her movements or that the door was now locked behind him. He carefully placed the food on the table and he began walking toward her desk. Tessa could tell by his lust-filled gaze that he was looking to fill more than just her appetite for food.

"Naughty boy," her wolf purred with anticipation when he rounded her chair, placing his large hands on each of Tessa's shoulders, then he began massaging.

"Mmm, maybe I should have made you the pack’s masseuse instead of Delta for the Elites," she teased, her eyes closing while his fingers worked their magic.

A growl rumbled from his chest as he lowered his face into her neck, inhaling her scent. "If I can serve you personally, I'd be more than happy to give up my position," he whispered, planting a soft kiss behind her ear. His finger drug along her collar bone, exposing her shoulder.

Tessa couldn't help but enjoy the feeling of his lips as they left a trail of kisses down her neck. "An Alpha has needs," her wolf purred with excitement as Elijah slowly turned Tessa's chair to face him.

He pulled her jacket behind her back, trapping her arms at her sides, then freed her blouse from her skirt. Tessa admired his strong arms and the fitted t-shirt hiding his defined chest, before meeting his darkened eyes with hers.

Elijah pulled her close, claiming her lips, but growled with satisfaction when Tessa's tongue invaded his mouth, demanding dominance. She loved the way his rough hand moved over her toned stomach and how a simple touch made him putty in her hands.

Control was one thing she always had during these flings with Elijah. She loved hearing him beg for release by her hand, but she had no intention of completely mating with any wolf, even if she found her "destined" mate.

"But having a little fun never hurt anybody," her wolf growled.

Elijah pulled Tessa's blouse over her head, his lips trailing down her chest and over her cleavage. His other hand snaked around her back continuing to work its magic by unclipping her bra, letting her breasts free.

He took her nipple into his mouth, running his warm tongue over the sensitive bud until it peaked, then he pulled it between his teeth, palming and squeezing the other before switching to give both equal attention.

Tessa's back arched in pleasure. She lifted her hips from the chair, letting him know she wanted more, and he listened to her body's plea by moving his hand between her legs and slowly up along her inner thigh.

Tessa roughly grabbed his hair pulling him closer to her, making him growl in pleasure against her chest. The feeling of his hand skimming along her tights gave Tessa goosebumps, but when his hand was about to reach her center, she received a mind link from Cadence.

"Alpha, we have unexpected visitors at the gate," Cadence announced, but Tessa didn't respond. She was too focused on the feeling of Elijah's claw carefully ripping her tights as he pushed her skirt further up her hips. This was just the release she needed today of all days. Whatever was happening at the gate Cadence could handle.

Elijah moved her shirt up, exposing her stomach to leave wet kisses in his wake as his head traveled lower. His fingers grazed the entrance to her core, which was more than ready to receive his attention.

"Tessa, it's the Beta of White Sand and a few pack warriors," Cadence informed her again, causing her eyes to snap open and her body stilled. Elijah looked up at her with concern and when he saw the look on her face he stood, ready to act.

"They want to deal with you directly. Their Alpha is running late but is close by. Supposedly, there was an emergency which caused their visit to be pushed up," Cadence continued, and

Tessa's eyes narrowed with suspicion.

"Just wonderful," she mumbled to herself, her eyes fogging while her mind linked with Cadence. "Tell Beta Monroe I will be there shortly. They must not have phones where they come from," she added sarcastically, pulling her ripped tights off and adjusting herself.

"Have them go through the screening protocol. If they want to be treated like guests they will comply. If not, we have a couple of cells they can wait for their Alpha in," she ordered before

finally turning to Elijah.

"Contact your warriors and have them follow us to the gate. We have some visitors," she snapped, heading for the door.

Stepping out of the packhouse, Tessa shifted into her wolf and took off for the southern border. "I guess we'll have to unwind with a different kind of release," she thought to her wolf, enjoying the way her large paws beat against the earth and the way the wind felt against her fur. It had been a while since she let her wolf out for a run.

"I'd say. All this stuffy office business has me pacing. I'm glad they're here early," her wolf said, enjoying any excuse to exude her strength.

Shortly, Tessa was flanked by her Elite squad. Elijah snapped his jaws, growling at the other wolves to keep up. When they grew closer to the gate, Tessa could hear the frustrated voice of a man.

"How much longer do we have to wait for him? I understand this was unexpected but all this is unnecessary. We are not a threat," Alan swore, throwing his hands up when Cadence continued directing the other warriors to search their vehicles and duffle bags. It was amusing to see her blatantly ignore the Beta's complaints.

"This is going to be interesting. They're not even through the gate and they're already questioning our protocol," Tessa's wolf growled pushing her ears back as she slowed to a walk. The Elites formed a protective line in front of her as Zander joined them, taking lead in his human form.

"Finally! You must be the Alpha," the Beta sighed in relief walking closer with an extended hand to Zander, but Tessa could see him eyeing the line of wolves with concern.

"Aren't they going to be in for a surprise," she sent through the pack link. Her Elite squad quietly growled in response. It was typical for outsiders to assume Zander was the Alpha, especially since they were the same age.

Tessa shifted back into her human form and straightened out her clothes. "Actually," she started, stepping in front of Zander. "That would be me," she declared proudly, standing eye to eye with Alan at 5′11" herself.

Alan's eyes widened and Tessa fought to hide her smirk when his Adams Apple bobbed nervously before bowing his head in respect. "My apologies. I didn’t know the Alpha of Blue Ridge was a female," he admitted.

Tessa rolled her eyes and she heard Cadence scoff beside her. "An Alpha is an Alpha no matter the gender," she snapped harshly. “But, let’s start over,” she said, extending her hand to stop him from making up an excuse she’s heard before. "Welcome to Blue Ridge. I am Alpha Tessa Hayes," she introduced, exuding confidence.

"I am Alan Monroe, the Beta of White Sand,” he said, shaking her hand firmly before stepping back to introduce his six warriors.

Tessa could tell they were eyeing up her squad, who now stood behind her in human form. She was proud knowing they gave off a strong sense of intimidation, warranting a watchful eye.

After acknowledging everyone, Tessa moved on to her own introductions. "Beta Alan, you have already met my Beta, Cadence Turner,” she said, motioning to Cadence, who tilted her head as she looked him over. It was obvious she was sizing him up. "She will be showing you around during your stay," Tessa announced with a smirk.

"She's going to tear him apart," her wolf laughed. Both knew Cadence wouldn't put up with the attitude Alan displayed earlier.

Bringing their attention to her left side, she continued. "The man, you assumed was the Alpha, is actually my Gamma, Zander Turner. Find him if you or your warriors want to participate in any training while you’re here or have security concerns," she explained, watching all their heads nod in understanding.

They all broke formation when they noticed she was done and went around shaking hands with the Elites, but Tessa noticed Zander took his place beside Cadence with a possessive arm around her waist as she spoke to Alan. The sight and thought of someone hovering over her like that made her internally gag.

In time, everyone seemed to be getting along and the atmosphere began to lose its tension, which was a great sign. She saw Elijah directing their visitors to the pack's guest house, but when he noticed her watching him, he sent her a wink.

"Delta, this isn’t the time or place," she snapped and he quickly returned to what he was doing.

While everyone got back into their vehicles, Tessa saw Alan walking toward her. "I'm sorry our sudden arrival came as a surprise, but I want to thank you for taking us in," he said gratefully, bowing his head in respect. Tessa was about to respond when a dark Jeep pulled up to the gate, catching their attention.

"It's about time he showed up," Alan grumbled, heading toward the vehicle where a tall, well-built man stepped out. Tessa could feel her wolf anxiously pacing back and forth in her mind and her senses were suddenly overwhelmed by an intoxicating aroma.

"No way," she gasped in shock as her eyes grew wide with the realization of what was happening.

Tessa instantly glared up to the sky. "Mom, Dad...I know this has something to do with you," she growled before her gaze fell back to their newest guest, taking in his impressive build.

She didn't realize she zoned out until she noticed his broad shoulders rise and fall in deep breaths. When his head snapped in her direction, she froze under his warm chocolate gaze, and her body became heated from the intensity.

"He looks surprised to see us too," her wolf noted, enjoying the way he was looking at them. As if he was removing every piece of clothing she wore. "I could get lost in those eyes all day," she continued with a sigh.

Tessa forcibly broke their connection when she felt her breathing become labored. "That is not the point. I'm not letting this happen," she declaredturning on her heels to join Cadence and Zander. She hoped they couldn’t sense her arousal, but from their questioning glances, they knew something was different about her. Luckily, a White Sand member approached her, postponing their interrogation.

"Alpha, Beta Monroe informed me we are going to settle in our rooms before the meeting. If that's okay," he asked nervously.

Tessa nodded, keeping her expression hard. "Understood, you may go," Tessa dismissed him, clearing her throat when she saw Cadence and Zander were still staring at her with suspicion.

"I think everything is handled here. Let's head back," she suggested, trying to avoid their questions. She ran off, shifting into her wolf form, and headed straight toward the packhouse.

She still smelled her mate and was fighting with everything she had to keep herself from glancing back at him. As the distance grew, Tessa felt calm, but she was dreading their meeting.

~Dainin~ "This is going to take some getting used to," Dainin thought, enjoying the tranquil ride through the thick, luscious green forest. After the chaotic week his pack endured, Dainin felt hopeful their situation would only improve, but then Alan told him how they were being treated at the border of Blue Ridge. Dread began digging a pit in his stomach, souring his mood with each passing mile. “If they’re expecting us to kiss ass just to win this guy over, it’s not happening,” he growled, wishing they could have stayed in Arizona where there was no one to answer to. "Enough! That’s what got us here in the first place," snapped his wolf. "This needs to work out for the pack's sake," he justified. After much hesitation, Dainin reluctantly nodded his head in agreement. "At least there’s plenty of space between our future pack land and theirs. Hopefully, we'll never have to deal with them once this is over," he hoped, but immediately felt a foreboding chill snake down his spine. “

~Dainin~“Look at this place,” Alan admired as they drove through the small town within Blue Ridge. Their pack land was beautiful and well-kept with a packhouse, resembling a five-star hotel, plenty of private housing, and even their own working farm. The landscape was vibrant and Dainin wondered how his pack would adjust to moving from the desert to a lush forest. “They’ll love it. We’ll all be able to run and live freely here,” his wolf assured him, and he was right. The chance of being discovered by humans was slim this far in the forest and Blue Ridge proved there was potential to live comfortably. Dainin and his warriors turned up a long-hidden driveway behind the large black wolf who was escorting them. At the end was a three-story French colonial surrounded by beautifully maintained property and a breathtaking garden in the center of the rounded driveway. While they exited their vehicles the wolf shifted back into a man and waited for them at the door. “Dainin, this is the Ga

~Dainin~ Dainin paced the conference room, growing impatient the longer he waited for the Alpha to arrive. His mate's scent overwhelmed his senses from the moment he stepped into the packhouse and he needed to see her. "Are you in a rush to be ignored again? Don't forget why we're here," his wolf growled. "Well, the sooner we get this settled, the sooner we can get answers from her," Dainin snapped, pointing out the obvious. "You don't think I want to find her as desperately as you do? I'm choosing to focus on the pack's needs first," his wolf exclaimed, and Dainin took his seat before his fist flew through the nearest wall. He wasn't trying to be selfish, but he needed to know the relationship between his mate and the Alpha. He wouldn't accept losing her after they just found each other. He just needed to catch her eye. "You definitely caught someone's attention," his wolf stated gravely and Dainin turned to see the Beta staring him down. She wore the same judgmental expression

~Tessa~ Tessa left the conference room fuming. Dainin was already proving to be like all the other weak Alphas and Betas who have tried to tame her over the years. He wanted a submissive Luna. Someone who'd sit around all day quietly raising pups and be ready to please him when ordered, but that would never be her. "You'd think the Moon Goddess would have paired us with someone less shallow," Tessa sighed, stopping to watch the Warriors train outside from the large picture window. Deep down, she felt disappointed. "Well, I don't think a 20-minute meeting is enough time to decide. We can only find out if we give him a chance," her wolf whispered. "Since when have you gone soft? Are you ready to roll over for him already," Tessa snapped. Her wolf whimpered in response to her hostile tone. "I'm sorry. It's not your fault," Tessa apologized with a frustrated sigh. She knew her wolf was only trying to help. Groaning in defeat, Tessa turned away from the window to press her back again

~Tessa~ Tessa paced the length of her bedroom in a silk robe. She couldn't believe how fast the day went and she barely slept because of her nerves. She was only busy with planning the annual Leadership Conference for a few hours and then her Grandmother became suspicious when she tried to help plan the ball. Eventually, Tessa was tricked into admitting her plans for the evening and was sent off to her room to get ready. She cringed hearing her Grandmother carry on about how she couldn't wait to see her future "Grandpups" running around. Now, it was a few hours since then and she wasn't even close to being ready. "I feel like a pathetic teenager," Tessa growled, holding a couple of dresses up to her body in the mirror. She couldn't decide if she wanted to dress to impress or make it seem like she put in as little effort as possible. Her wolf laughed at her dilemma and then continued to daydream about their mate. It seemed she knew exactly what she wanted out of this night. "Don't

~Tessa~ Tessa took in the night sky as she tried to think of a way to start this conversation. "Can we truly be honest with him," she wondered, her heart racing at the thought of his reaction. "There is only one way to find out," her wolf urged, so Tessa looked back to Dainin and met his adoring eyes. A lump formed in her throat with the words she wasn’t ready to say. "Let's eat before it gets cold," she coaxed, removing the lid to inhale the savory aroma. They ate in silence for a moment before Dainin's deep voice resonated through the air. "It means everything to me that you would plan something so intimate," Dainin softly admitted and Tessa froze. "So much for thinking of it as just a meeting," she thought to her wolf, sheepishly drinking water. "Dainin there's something I need to say and it may be a game-changer for you. If it is, I will accept your rejection." "Okay, I'm listening," he said calmly, his happiness turning to worry with a deep nervous breath. "It's now or neve

~Dainin~ Dainin leaned with his palms flat against the shower tiles. The hot water running down his body soothed his aching muscles after a grueling sparring match with his mate. At first, he was excited to get his hand on her, but it quickly turned into a test of speed and agility. When Tessa gained the upper hand she took him down fast and hard with no remorse. “Probably getting back at you for leaving her against the tree,” his wolf growled, still upset with Dainin for refusing to finish what he started. "It wouldn’t have been what she wanted,” Dainin sighed, his jaw growing tense thinking about last night. He knew if their eyes met, he’d lose control. ”She made it clear she didn’t want to rush things during dinner. If we took advantage of her emotions from the bond how could we face her,” he asked. “You’re right,” his wolf admitted. ”Besides that, our pack’s training needs work. Goddess knows this child wasn’t much help,” she scolded, glaring at Tessa. “She was worth the wait, Miss,” Dainin admitted, smiling down at the elderly woman. She simply laughed as a blush crept up her cheeks. “Oh please, call me Lori. I’m Tessa’s Grandmother,” she smiled, and her eyes were lit with affection. It was just like looking into Tessa’s golden hues. Lori took Dainin’s wrist and led him to a table with an abundant spread of pastries. “This all looks delicious. Thank you for putting in so much effort for my sake,” he thanked her, earning him a fit of giggles. “Please, don’t encourage her. She has a huge ego already,” Tessa whispered. Dainin tried to contain his chuckle but failed when Lori shot Tessa another playful glare and slapped her arm. “Let the boy say what he wants.

The air was stale with age and the decor seemed to be plucked from the movies where sweaty men wore powdered wigs and sipped wine all day. The portraits of deceased royals covering the walls matched the men flooding her imagination. The staff were dreadfully pretentious as well. They typically ignored Tessa’s presence, but that all changed when she caught a boy eavesdropping at the door of the Great Hall. “Hey, you better not be spying on them,” Tessa exclaimed, tackling him to the ground. Muscles rippled beneath a thin coat of black fur as it walked to the center of the room. Eric’s body carelessly swayed in its grasp like a doll being carried by a child. “This is no child. I wasn’t expecting to see a Lycan show up here,” his wolf muttered, cautiously observing the creature. Its snout twisted into a menacing sneer full of sharp teeth and rage swirled within the fiery golden hues of its eyes. The strong aura, permeating the air, had the vast space shrinking from its presence and nobody dared to even breathe. Everyone remained silent as they passed. Blue light emanated from the projector as it shone on the large silk screen positioned in front of the stage. The room felt thick with rage rolling off the surrounding packs, but Dainin was amused. Each traitor, including the prideful Eric, stood frozen in the center of the dance floor with their eyes wide with shock and locked on the screen. Dainin waited a moment to let the reality of their situation sink in until Eric broke the silence. “What is the meaning of this? Who are these people,” he shouted in outrage. ~Tessa~ Tessa felt restless as she watched heavy snowflakes descend from the sky. Thick grey clouds blocked out the sun, creating untimely darkness during the late morning which deepened the chill in the air. The scenery only disturbed the once beautiful atmosphere of winter, and the harsh wind caused the fur around Tessa's hood to dance against her skin, tickling her cheeks. She brushed it away and turned to Dainin, who stood tall beside her in his plain hoodie and jeans, his stoic features overshadowed by the overcast. When Tessa first laid eyes on his attire in their bedroom, Dainin raised his hand to stop her from commenting. "I know what you're going to say, but I'm not here to impress these animals," he growled before stalking toward the door. He paused for a moment with his hand hovering over the doorknob and glanced back at her. “You look beautiful,” he said with a gentle smile as his eyes traveled over her fitted maroon maternity dress, pausing to admire her midsection. ~Tessa~ Tessa entered the gym knowing Dainin would be working out his frustration. Once she reached the bottom step, she slowed her pace and began to look around for her mate. The gym was vast with a tense atmosphere and no other pack members in sight. "I'm not surprised. Nobody wants to be in the way of an angry Alpha," her wolf snickered. The large room was dimly lit, allowing Tessa to use the darkness to her advantage as she followed the only sound permeating through the air. She hid behind a pillar, peering around the edge, and her mouth watered at the sight before her. She watched, with bated breath, as Dainin sent punch after punch against the heavy bag. His muscles rippled with each swift strike and Tessa’s legs grew weak. She found herself using the pillar for support, forcing her eyes closed to take control of her breathing, but the spellbinding vision of her mate plagued her mind. “Get used to it,” her wolf teased, looking forward to an eternity of drooling over the man

~Tessa~ Tessa’s frustration motivated her to find a way to convince everyone that she and Dainin were only joining their packs out of love. She knew the Werewolf Council would feel their plans didn't threaten the Alliance, but the thought of these few Alphas fearing such a thing enraged her. “Then they have the nerve to want my pack members transferred? They're probably intimidated because a male would be in power now too. Bastards,” Tessa growled under her breath while sifting through each file she had on the cowards. It didn’t take her long to notice the pattern. Each Alpha involved had been a suitor she refused to mate with. She was glad she followed her instincts and stayed away from them because they were not pursuing her with pure intentions. If their fathers hadn’t been family friends, Tessa would never have agreed to continue an alliance with them in the first place. There had been countless occasions where Blue Ridge was forced to bail them out of financial turmoil. Tessa

"Gran and her parties," she muttered to herself, seeing everything from rentals, decoration plans, and finally the thick guest list. “I think she went a little overboard this time,” Tessa’s wolf whined at the sight of the stack of pages, but for once, Tessa was excited to look it over. She had made it her mission to become familiar with her pack members since the battle. Now that she could put a face to the names on the list, Tessa felt a sense of kinship. Pack occasions were no longer just about business. They became a gathering of a family she never thought she’d have again, and now it was about to double in size. Winter always made her feel refreshed. It reminded her that a new year was fast approaching, and everything could start with a clean slate. She was looking forward to leaving her murky past behind her for a fresh start. "Positive changes are coming our way," she thought as her hand mindlessly caressed her now prominent stomach.
