Chapter 318

A melodious piano piece resounded in the air.

Cecily leaned against the window, gazing at the blooming flowers and fountain in the yard. Her eyes were reddened and a little swollen.

She had fantasized about the proposal at the end of this month.

She even hoped that Austin would actually come in shining armor, maybe even on horseback, as he arrived and proposed to her.

But now, all her fantasies and hope seemed to be tossed into an icy cave. They turned cold, numb, and indifferent.

A knock sounded on the door.

"Cecily, it's time for lunch," Edward called out at the door.

Cecily wiped the corners of her eyes. "Dad, I'm not hungry. You and Mom should go ahead."

"Child, you haven't eaten for two days. What if you starve yourself too much?" Edward sounded a little angry, but it was because his heart ached for his daughter.

Cecily said playfully, "Come on, Dad, I'm a grown-up now. Can you not treat me like a child?"
