He looked at me with eyes filled with concern. I watched as he brought his hand up in an attempt to feel my temperature. I don't think I'm burning up. Sean confirmed that too.
"You're aren't burning up, you seem to be fine" he says stilllooking at me intently.
"What, I'm… fine" I say to him. I'm glad he's concerned about me but another part of me couldn't help but think it's just for his sake. If I fall sick we wouldn't be able to attend the gala we are about to go to and that will be a disadvantage on his part.
"You don't look fine to me. You were staring into space and I shouted your name for god's knows how long" he explained.
I realized that he had packed in an underground driveway. I didn't even realize we are already at the party.
"I was just preoccupied. It's been a long week, you shouldn't worry about me" I tried to push him off.
Well, it's not like I can say it to his face that I was thinking about him. Not that he cares anyway.
"The hell shouldn't I worry" he bashed out. "See, if you aren't feeling so good, a can turn back right now." He say with all seriousness.
"What? That's ridiculous what about the party? The shareholders?" I asked. My eyes widens in bewilderment. I couldn't believe he said he'll do that.
"They can wait. For now your health comes first and it stays that way. I do not care what they think or do in there" his gaze held mine.
"I'm serious Sean, I really mean it. I'm fine" I say pleading with my eyes.
"Fine" he finally gave him and I sighed in relief. When I looked over at him, I could see the wrinkles on his forehead, solidifying the fact that he wasn't satisfied with my reply and he had to give it to him because there was no other way to persuade me.
He's helping me and I don't want to fail in my responsibility towards him also. Like a teeth for teeth aphorism, he's helping me and I'm doing the same. He's giving out something and expecting another thing in return.
The hospital had called me earlier saying my mother's bill had been paid and an advance was paid to them. Words couldn't explain how relieved I had been to hear the news. And now, it's my turn to pay him back in the little way I could, I am not ready to ruin it for him.
Sean climbed out and I followed suit before he could turn around to open my door for me.
"You should have let me"
"No, I can do that myself," I insisted. He leaned closer and wrapped his arms around my waist. When I looked forward to seeing what he's doing, he nodded forward for me and I saw other cars arriving.
"Words would soon get out, it's better we take up the act from here. We don't know who's looking" he leaned closer and whispered that in my ear.
I swallowed a large gulp down my throat and nodded. I don't know how to tell him my body reacts to how close we are right now. I could feel every movement. I feel the air on my back rise and my body tingles with each movement. The heat from his body radiates through me and my body shivers at the close proximity.
"What if they ask how we got back together?" I questioned. I was just trying to get something out and that's the next thing I can say.
"I have thought of that, '' he said and waited for a while pretending to think. I forced back a laughter that threatened to escape through me. It's actually funny seeing him this way trying so hard to do something like he hadn't figured it out already.
"We can just tell them we ran into each other and I still couldn't keep my hands off you" he said and I finally laughed.
"Be serious! They won't but that"
"Well that's the truth" he said and looked at me for a long time. Hard. I could see the hunger in his eyes but it was quickly replaced by laughter.
"Just kidding" he added quickly and my face fell. The bigger part of me wishes it was true and that he still wants me.
"What if we tell them the truth?" I suggested. If we tell the truth then we don't need to necessarily be lying.
"What?"
"Yes, the truth" I say again, confirming my words from earlier.
"Are you sure about that? You want me to tell them I'm using us to fool them" he listed it out for me. Giving me a choice and listing my options for me. It is more or less like, do you know what you're doing at all Katara? Are you sure you really want to go down this road?
"I don't mean that" I paused, carefully sharpening my words. " I mean the truth about we still loving each other and when our paths crossed we realised how much we still love each other" I say and waited for him to say something.
That is the truth or what's closer to the truth. On my part, my heart still yearns for him. I know how my body reacts to his touch. Hell, my whole body still wants him. It's been three years but the time distance has nothing to do with rekindling the fire between us.
"Oh" was all he said and then he added.
"We should stick to that then."
"Yes" I say, my voice gagged.
"Let's go in, we're running late" he says. Sean resumed his only duty– putting his arms around me like he was shielding him from something. I forced my mind to not think about the way my body feels where our body is meeting.
"Okay* I smiled up at him.
Sean POV I felt stupid for snapping at Katie earlier. Well she was also acting so stubborn reminding me of the ways she used to be. Little had changed about her at all. When she walked into my office last week I felt like I had seen a ghost. I mean she was the last person I was expected to see. I wanted to answer her and mock her but her state stopped me from doing so. The look on her face tells me she isn't in my office on her own free will. Like I was the last person she wanted to come to. I know Katie so well, like my own second flesh. The first time I set my eyes on her I knew she was the one. I knew she's the right one for who I'm going to marry. She doesn't know this but I do. I had plans for us. Visions for us. I had imagined how I'll pump my baby in her and watch her belly grow and produce little me or little Katie. So, when she broke up with me it felt as if my life was turned upside down. Like a part of me had stopped. The light in my darkness was quenched. I never Wh
Kate's povI was feeling uneasy all night. First I'm not used to getting this much attention. I've always been the quiet type and hard to notice girl. During high school and hrough out my college my college days. Secondly, the way I'm holding hands with Sean, it's bringing back memories.Memories of the happy days."Son of a bitch" Sean muttered beside me, gazing at something beside me and I looked up to find Zack Tyler walking up to us. Tyler was my ex back at college way back before I met Sean. He's the one who broke my heart when he cheated on me with my then best friend, Rosalie. I'd vow not to trust men or ever love any of them until Sean. He came and then turned my life around, I learnt how to love, live, laugh and enjoy life like how a Norman person should.Sean is the reason for my existence, and that's the reason why my life flipped when I broke up with him. I didn't mean to give up the love of my life, but when I found out the truth, I couldn't do anything other than run aw
"You need to come to the hospital right now," the voice yelled. It was 3 am in the morning when my phone rang. I picked it without checking the screen to look at the caller ID."What?" My eyes flew open and I yanked the phone away from my ear and brought it to my face.Nurse Hailey. She's the nurse appointed to take care of my mother. I had given her my contact to reach me in case of any emergency. She is the one I go to anytime I want to reach mom and she updates me about her wellbeing. My heart raced as I pulled back the phone to my ear. I"Katara? Are you there? Can you hear me?" She was saying it but my mind wasn't registering what she was saying."Katie?" She called again when she didn't hear anything.I snapped instantly, what was happening now registering in my brain. I looked at the screen of the phone to confirm that she was still on."Yes, I can hear you" I say back to her swallowing a big lump down my throat while I dread what she is about to say."Okay. I want you to keep
Kayla also showed up not long after when she heard the news. Thanks to Sean who drove me home as I was in no condition to drive back home. I was later informed that it was the hospital that called him in as he was in charge of paying up her medication and taking care of her bills till she died.A week after we put her to rest and buried her. Those who attended her funeral. just a couple of people. Sean, his driver, Kayla, people from her work, people from the hospital, Dr Griffin, Nurse Hailey and some others. some other mom's friends were present too which I recognize from the picture. It was quiet that morning when we buried her. The clouds were misty like it was about to rain. After the short service, the undertaker lifted her corpse lower into the ground.I hadn't cried until this part. It hit me that my mother is gone finally and I'm never going to see her.Life is so cruel. She is too good to die. She never deserved any of this.I felt Kayla's arms wrapped around me as I wailed
Sean POVI was seated in the study of my mansion when I heard the jingles of a key and the door opening. I was watching the reactions of people online after I had posted the picture of Katie's fingers online. I purposely didn't reveal her face yet but I will soon.I'm stalling that process for the reactions to grow massively and keep people waiting before I finally let the cat out of the bag.Earlier today when I made a proposal to her, I wasn't really planning it. The ring I haven't heard of was just a coincidence. I went in there to pick a ring for her so we could continue the pretense we had going on but she beat me to it when she started discussing the part and I know the only ticket I can use on her is a proposal. She recently lost her mother and I'm not obliged to owe her anything and I know when she finds a job soon she'll call out agreement quits so I had to do what I did to save my ass.The study door opened, revealing my best friend, Rick walking in. He had a big scowl on hi
"KATARA AMELIA GREEN!" I heard the loud shriek of my best friend's voice before she waltzed in my apartment hurriedly and she dropped her purse on the floor. She must have seen the news."Oh my Goodness! You never told me it'll be this soon. I have an inkling it's going to happen, but I never picture it to be this soon. Tell me I'm not dreaming" She said, taking my hand and glaring at the second ring Sean gave me when he proposed. I can feel my cheeks burning red with excitement."I still don't believe it," I say, grinning from ear to ear."And I never pictured Sean to be that romantic. It's all over the internet, you should have seen the way he looks at you""I know" I confirmedIt all happened a week ago but yet, it still felt like it happened minutes ago as I continued to replay the scene in my head. I had gone there with the thought of ending things between us and putting a stop to it, instead, I was given the best shock of my life.He bent on one knee and proposed. It was three y
I had just finished showering and was about to get into my bed when I got into bed when I got the call from Sean. I was startled and wondered what he could want at a time like this. I was even more shocked when I picked the call and heard his voice."Come over" he says without giving me the chance to protest or affirm if I'll be coming. It sounded more like an order and he already expects me to be there.I could tell that he's been drinking. His voice was a little bit slurred even though he didn't say much.Hesitantly, I got dressed and drove to his house. I wasn't sure he still lives in the same house I knew but with the help of google and google map, I was able to locate it.I went straight to his bar as that seems to be the logical place he will be and I found him there passed out on the couch.I sighed."Get up" I say scooting over to bring his large arms over my neck but he was unresponding."Leave me alone" he slurred, laying back and going back to sleep. I tried again but recei
They say when you suddenly change,it's hard to take back who had hurt you. It's not different in the case of Sean.I wanted to cry and throw a fist but I couldn't.I'll count this as my appointment for what I had done to him in the past.He hated me even though he was trying to hide it. What happened just now should have been enough reason for me to call off the engagement and travel out of the country like I always wanted.Maybe get a new life and start all over again.A life without me feeling entitled to pay Sean back or make him love me.And maybe I could even fall in love with someone else. By the time I get back to his bedroom, I find him gone already.I picked my few belongings and retrieved my clothes from the laundry.I had just gotten into my car when I heard my phone chimed. I dip my hand into my pocket and fished out the phone. I looked at the screen to see a message from Dr Griffins.Dr Griffins: I found something weird, you might want to see. You can come over if you hav

Katie sat by the window of her luxurious apartment, gazing at the moonlit city below. It had been weeks since she became Sean's contract lover, and her heart was a swirl of emotions. While she appreciated the comfort and material wealth he provided, she yearned for something more—a deeper connection that transcended the boundaries of their arrangement. As days turned into nights and moments of intimacy mixed with fleeting conversations, Katie sensed a loneliness within Sean that he tried to conceal with his stoic demeanor. She knew he needed more than the transactional relationship they had, but both were afraid to acknowledge it.One evening, Sean arrived at Katie's apartment with a bouquet of roses, an unusual gesture for their arrangement. He seemed restless, his eyes betraying a vulnerability he seldom showed. "I thought you might like these," he said, offering the flowers with a hint of a smile.Katie accepted the roses, her heart fluttering at the thoughtfulness behind the gestu
In the quiet solitude of a moonlit night, Sean stood by the large window in his penthouse, his thoughts tangled like the city lights below. He realized he had fallen for her, hard.Meanwhile, Katara found herself caught in a whirlwind of emotions. They were sipping wine by the floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking the glittering city below."Sean," she began tentatively, "I've been thinking a lot lately. About my life and what I want to do with it."He set down his glass and turned to her, his expression curious. "What's on your mind, Katie?""I want to become a counselor, an advocate for those who are struggling. I want to help people find their own truths and be a beacon of hope for them," she explained, her eyes shining with determinat

She sat up in bed, her mind heavy with thoughts of Sean and the complexities of their arrangement. As she brushed her fingers through her tangled hair, she realized that she couldn't keep these emotions bottled up inside. Katie sat alone in the cozy corner of her favorite coffee shop, a steaming cup of mocha warming her hands. The atmosphere was comforting, and the faint aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. She stared out the window, watching raindrops trace their way down the glass, as if mimicking the tears that had fallen from her eyes just moments ago.It had been weeks since her arrival at Sean's luxurious mansion, weeks filled with opulence and extravagance. But amidst the shimmering façade, Katie had felt a gnawing emptiness inside her. The contract that brought her here had tethered her heart to Sean's, yet it seemed to grow heavier with each passing day. With a deep sigh, Katie reached into her handbag and pulled out a faded photograph. It was a picture of her adoptive mother, a woman who had loved and nurtured her throughout her childhood. The memories flooded back—the warm embrace, the kind smile, the gentle touch. But they were tinged with grief, for her mother was no longer with
