“Later, by chance, I overheard a conversation between my grandmother and the butler, which shed some light on his past. Following his disappearance, he was taken in by a woman of questionable character, one who resorted to selling her body and seeking solace in heavy drinking. Despite her flaws, she treated him well, providing him with sustenance, clothing, and even sending him to school.”

When it came to addressing his adoptive mother, Bruce’s voice dipped, possibly burdened by the implications of her embarrassing profession.
