ANNIKA’S POV

The sound of the falling rain was like my heartbeat— slow and steady, and then, fast and loud at one moment. I was sitting on the couch, my mind lost in a sea of thoughts while I stared blankly at the walls of my apartment.

I've been sitting here for quite some time now, yet I didn't have the urge to stand up or move. I suddenly felt exhausted, even when my work wasn't really that tiring.

I let out a deep sigh. It was Caspian.

He was the reason why I was feeling this way. I never really realized how tiring it was to argue with him. . . to face him. . . to repeatedly push him away. His words rang inside my head, and for a moment, I felt enraged.

‘How can you do it so easily?’ his nagged inside my head.

I let out a sarcastic laugh. Oh, how I wish it was so fuckig easy! But it's not! I had to endure the pain for a long time! I was trying. . . Truly trying to heal from that painful loss, so how dare him accuse me of such a thing?

My heart began to race as I breathe heavily,

ANNIKA’S POVThat night, I cried so hard. A feeling of relief and sadness washed over me. It was freeing to know that it's over, and yet, a part of me aches at the same thought. Jade and I spent the night with alcohol, oblivious to the fact that we both have work the following day.Jade was silently comforting me, gently patting my shoulders and stroking my back. I was silent too, but my tears were loud. They kept on falling like it was the only way for me to finally let it go. I didn't know how the night ended, but I woke up the next day feeling way better, though my eyes couldn't lie for me.When I got to work, Aries didn't say anything about my eyes looking so red and puffy. We were quiet the whole morning. Aries had a meeting with a potential investor by the afternoon, and he let me come with him to record the minutes of their meeting. Somehow, I was grateful because it took my mind off my worries. It distracted me from thinking about Caspian and me.“Are you okay?” Aries finally a

ANNIKA’S POVThat was the last time I heard from them. Since then, I cut every connection I had with them and it was the best thing that I did. For days, it felt like I finally found peace. I decided to deactivate all my social media accounts so I wouldn't have to hear about them. However, they are well-known people, and it's no surprise that people gossip about them from time to time— and my workplace is not an exemption. A DNA test was done to confirm the paternity of Juliette’s son, and it revealed that it was really Caspian.I didn't know what happened next, but it wouldn't really be a surprise if they are trying to rekindle their romance, especially now that they have a son. After all, only those who are close to us knew that he was married to me. To the people in the higher society, Caspian is a certified bachelor who's set to marry someone from his league. Someone who's as rich as him, famous and came from a long line of wealthy family. It's a scandal if people knew the truth

My mom recovered and now enjoys her life with me. It took me a while, but I finally healed from the pain of the past. There were times when I still cried and mourned for my son, especially when his birthday approached, but I finally accepted that he was gone. And that maybe. . . God has a better plan for me, that's why He took him away from me.Jade and Hunter broke up, and I didn't have any idea why. She acted as though it was alright, yet, I could see so many changes in her actions. Gone was the spark in her eyes, and even when she denies it, I can see in her eyes that she's still in pain. Jade never talked about the break-up, and every time I tried to ask her about it, she would immediately shrug it off and change the topic. I wanted to help her, but she wouldn't open up, so I did what I knew was the best that I could do for h

ANNIKA’S POV“Timmy! Oh my God, you nearly gave me a heart attack! Your father will definitely kill me if I lost you!” A middle-aged woman yelled, running towards us and pulling the kid for a tight hug. The horror in her eyes told me she was seriously nervous. She was panting and a sense of relief filled her eyes when she saw the child. “Don't do that again, okay? I'd die early because of you.”The little boy giggled— a sound so sweet like that of a beautiful song escaped his lips, making me froze. “Silly, nanny,” he said. His laughter sounded so sweet and heartwarming.Just as I thought they were leaving, he turned to me and smiled, making my heart melt. The way his gray eyes sparkled. . . resembled Caspian so much. In fact, the way he smiles. . . his eyebrows and his pointed nose— it resembled Caspian. My heart began beating so fast. What are the odds? Could he be his son?“You are beautiful. ANNIKA’S POV“What happened here?” I asked as soon as I opened the door to Aries’ office.I was greeted by a mess. There were piles of papers scattered on the floor, shards of broken glass and torn documents. I found Aries sitting on the couch, his head was buried on his lap while his hands were on his hair, grasping forcefully out of frustration.Just looking at the surroundings made my head throb. How am I going to clean this all? “That good for nothing asshole!” he whispered underneath his breath, making it barely audible. “He's going to pay for it.”“What's the matter, Aries? Did you and Caspian have a fight?” I asked. Slowly, I bent to pick up the papers on the floor, threw away the torn documents and the broken glass on the trash bin.Aries did not answer me, and it looked like he had no plans of answering anytime soon.“Please cancel all my appointments today, Annika. ANNIKA’S POVAs I walked towards our table, Juliette’s eyes found mind. Her mouth hung open, as if she wasn't expecting to see me there. I tried to ignore her presence, even when I can feel her gaze following me. I sat in front of Aries and smiled nervously.“What took you so long?” he asked. I didn't mention anything about Caspian, so as not to ruin his mood again.I glanced back to see if he was already back in his table, but I was met by his fiery gaze. ANNIKA’S POVI started avoiding Aries, yet, he became more insistent. Even if I told him to stop pursuing me, he didn't budge. In fact, he became more adamant to have me that I sometimes feel so uncomfortable around him. It was like seeing a new side of him, a side that I was so afraid to name.He made me go with him in his every transaction, as if it was the only way that he could spend every second of the day with me. He often took me out on dinners, and I would always be left with no other choice but to go with him. I hate it whenever I see his sad face when I turn down his offer. It made me feel guilty and ungrateful.”I'll just go to the rest room,” I told him.We were in a Chinese restaurant for dinner, however, I froze when I saw Caspian, Timmy and Juliette emerging from the front door. In the last years that she worked for me, she never looked at me as if I was someone inter

The warm golden rays of the sun are slowly creeping in, reminding me that it's a brand new day I should be thankful for. My eyes grew huge in fear! I cried so hard as I melted to the ground. Caspian reached out for me and pulled me back up.

  • Wife In Contract   CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO: POOR CHILD

ANNIKA'S POV I felt so anxious. It's been hours since Aries and Juliette took Timmy, yet we still haven't heard an update. Ms. Brown was sent home to rest. Her eyes were swollen from crying the whole afternoon. The management of the school also called to inform us about the repercussions of Ms. Brown's actions that put our son's life in danger. It's already dark, we're tired, and yet, we couldn't afford to go home without any news about the whereabouts of our son. "I can't wait here anymore. I need to find my son!" he muttered angrily. "I'm coming with you," I stood up and ran to him. Just then, the police officers approached us. "We've already searched around the area, but there are no sightings of them. We've also put a lookout bulletin for them, and alerted the security of the nearby towns. They won't get far, we
