Chapter 2

Natasha had interrupted Joshua mid-sentence. It was the first time she'd ever done something like that.

And it was a rare occasion for Joshua to be so gentle toward her, too.

The meaning he conveyed was harsh, but Natasha wasn't bothered.

Since Joshua's first love was back in the country, Natasha's job here was complete.

She'd done plenty for the Grayson family, so she didn't owe them anything. She didn't owe the man in her memories anything.

It was time for her to wake up from her dream.

Joshua instinctively glanced at Natasha. Her eyes were as deep and calm as the water in a lake.

The words he'd prepared to convince her were lodged in his throat. He stared at Natasha in surprise.

She looked as calm and quiet as usual. She'd been this way since the first day of their marriage—she always exuded a soothing, comforting air. The calmness in her tone would make one think that she was asking what they were having for dinner.

Had Natasha really agreed to Joshua's demand for a divorce so easily? Where were the tears and the begging?

Suddenly, he felt a little upset. The irritation had come from nowhere.

Joshua didn't like this. He hated having his feelings affected by someone and hated that someone could influence him, especially on a matter that he'd been sure of.

Why had Natasha agreed to the divorce so calmly?

Joshua scrutinized her, wanting to detect the sorrow in her eyes. She had to be putting up a strong front.

After all, she loved him with all her heart. How could she possibly agree to the divorce so easily?

But there wasn't even a hint of falsity in Natasha's calm expression, and she wasn't hiding anything. It was as if the deep love she'd harbored for him in the past had never existed.

Joshua looked away, feeling rather flustered. He grabbed his coat, looking grim as he said, "I'll talk to you about the details tomorrow."

He didn't know what tricks Natasha had up her sleeve, but this divorce had to go through!

"If Grandpa asks about me tomorrow morning, tell him I've gone on a business trip." Joshua gave Natasha one last look.

"Okay," she said calmly.

In truth, Natasha wasn't completely unaffected by this. Divorcing Joshua would mean that she would lose her final shred of hope. It meant she'd have to thoroughly bid that person farewell.

Then again, Natalie's return had only brought the inevitable forward.

Joshua gave Natasha a few more looks when he heard her calm response. When he saw that she was truly unruffled, he turned and left, looking steely.

As he disappeared from her sight, Natasha quietly stood up to take a shower.

The housekeeper, Ella Lowry, returned from her grocery run. She ran right into Joshua, who looked frosty.

He was cold on both the outside and inside. The frosty look on his face only added to the dominance and tension he exuded.

"Where are you going so late at night, Mr. Grayson? Aren't you gonna stay for breakfast tomorrow? Mrs. Grayson told me to buy your favorites when she heard you were coming back today," Ella said.

Joshua looked up to see the bags that she held. They were filled to the brim, and he could see the spinach poking out over the top.

The spinach quiche that Natasha cooked was identical in taste to the one Natalie made.

Indeed, a few days ago, he'd mentioned to Natasha that he wanted to eat the spinach quiche she cooked.

Joshua recalled the calm look on Natasha's face. His expression darkened. What was she up to now?

He didn't say anything to Ella. Instead, he got into his car and put the pedal to the metal. The tires screeched against the ground as he made the car swerve out of the driveway. All it left behind were skid marks on the ground, showing how annoyed its owner was.

Ella shook her head. Judging from the look on Joshua's face, he was thinking about Natalie again.

She was the only one who could cause him to act so emotionally. Joshua looked cold but wasn't the type to easily fly into a rage.

Ella had seen what Joshua was like when he missed Natalie. It was exactly like how he'd looked earlier.

And as long as Joshua thought about Natalie, something bad would happen to Natasha. She wondered how Natasha was doing.

Ella felt that since Joshua had married Natasha, it was only right for him to treat her well. But from the first day of their marriage, Joshua had never been nice to Natasha.

She couldn't help feeling indignant on Natasha's behalf as she thought about how gentle Natasha was. Why was it that Joshua didn't know how to appreciate how wonderful Natasha was? He would regret this one day.
