After school, Trevis messaged me, saying he was quite busy today and that I should walk home on my own. I agreed, but on my way home, I was stopped by someone.

It was the first time in three years that I had seen Lucy.

When I saw what she was holding up high in her hand, my mind went blank, and I felt like I wasn't myself anymore.

It was my notebook. How did she get it? How did she know?

Before I could make sense of it all, I heard Lucy say, "If you don't want Trevis to know your dirty secrets, you better leave him."

I tried to stay calm. "Where would I go if I leave him?"

Lucy chuckled and said, "You can end up on the streets for all I care."

I clenched my fists. "That's not an option."

Lucy replied, "Three days. If you're still by his side in three days, you're finished."

Then she turned and walked away.

For those three days, I was constantly on edge, desperately trying to reassure myself. I kept telling myself that the notebook was just a coincidence, and the contents wi

Trevis stepped out, his posture stiff, and he looked awkward when he saw me. I stammered, attempting to explain, "I... I couldn't think of a name for the main character, so I just used any name."As I spoke, I felt an overwhelming sense of shame. How would Trevis see me now?I heard him sigh, and Trevis, ruffling my hair, said, "I believe you. Alright, let's go to class."Even though he believed my feeble excuse, I couldn't muster any happiness. Trevis and I weren't related by blood, but did he truly have no feelings for me? A surge of anger washed over me, and I grabbed Trevis's hand."Trevis, I don't want to stay here today. Can you help me get permission to leave, and take me home?" I pleaded. He furrowed his brow slightly. "No, you need to study."I whispered softly, "But my classmates are mocking me…"He hesitated for a moment, as if only now noticing the mocking and disdainful glances from the people around us. He could do nothing but reluctantly agree. On the way home, I

She pulled me out of the car and led me down a winding path until we arrived at a graveyard. My eyes widen in shock. It was Mrs. Lewis's grave. Trevis had sold some of his belongings to afford this burial plot when Mrs. Lewis tragically passed away.Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my knees, and I found myself kneeling in front of the grave. Lucy firmly held me down, preventing me from standing up, and shouted, "Mrs. Lewis died because of you! Trevis took you in, cared for you, and you harbour such disgusting intentions towards him!""I can't believe how despicable you are. Not only did you make him give up his education, but you also want to ruin his entire life?"All of a sudden, the pressure on me lessened. Trevis had arrived, pulling Lucy away from me and standing protectively in front of me, shouting at her,"Lucy, why are you saying these things to her?"Lucy gazed at him, her expression difficult to read."Trevis, don't act like you're clueless. Do you really no

We couldn't find a taxi on the way back, but Trevis spotted a bicycle nearby. My tear-streaked face was still wet as I sat on the back seat.As the bicycle started moving, Trevis's lean back became even more prominent. He pedalled with effort, gasping for breath as he spoke, "Kathryn, you're still young, and you may not fully understand matters of the heart. I believe that you've been momentarily misled. When you grow up, you'll realize that your feelings for me are purely familial."I clenched the edge of the bicycle seat, not even daring to wrap my arms around his waist. I spoke softly, "I understand, Trevis."It felt like my teenage years had suddenly come to an end.My restless heart was just a personal melodrama. I devoted all my energy to self-improvement, studying tirelessly, and immersing myself in books. The once-lively rumors and gossip surrounding me gradually faded as I intentionally ignored them.I started to create some distance between Trevis and me, no longer

I was in my classroom, attending a self-study session when someone suddenly called my name from behind. I turned around, and to my surprise, it was Linda. Ever since we got split into different classes last year, we rarely crossed paths at school, and I had missed her a lot.I walked over to her, and she pulled me into a quiet corner before cautiously asking, "Hey, Kathryn, do you have any cash on you? Can you loan me some?"Noticing her pale face, I couldn't help but ask with curiosity, "What do you need the money for?"She hesitated for a moment, then finally, with a determined look, uttered two words, "Abortion."Hearing that, I was so shocked that I nearly jumped out of my skin. She quickly covered my mouth to keep me from making any noise."Whose?" I asked in a hushed tone."It's the chauffeur from my family," she replied.I clenched my fists."Have you talked to your folks?" I urged. "He's just the chauffeur they hired. You're the one who runs this household!"At her wor

Linda's words initially left me completely bewildered. Before long, it all became horrifyingly clear. The chauffeur's hand landed on my shoulder, and with a brutal tug, he pulled me closer to him. A repugnant odor wafted from his mouth as he leaned in for a kiss.In my line of sight, Linda had retreated and sat beneath a towering oak tree, silently witnessing the unfolding events.I began to struggle vehemently, unable to believe the nightmare I found myself in. The chauffeur, his head uncomfortably close to mine, continued to smirk and remarked, "Sweetheart, I can't help it. Someone wants to cause trouble for you, but don't worry, I can make it enjoyable for you."My thoughts were in disarray. In the midst of this terrifying whirlwind, I suddenly felt pinned forcefully to the ground.Tears of sheer panic welled up uncontrollably in my eyes. And right at that moment, I spotted someone.Lucy! It was Lucy!In that moment, I completely set aside any past grievances and pleaded wi

However, the moment he laid eyes on me, his eyes welled up with tears.Trevis dashed over and forcibly separated the chauffeur from me, landing a heavy punch in the process. But the chauffeur, a middle-aged man, didn't hesitate to engage in a physical scuffle with my brother.I noticed Lucy’s face contorted in a grim expression. She abruptly snatched Linda's phone and swiftly scrolled through their chat history."Exactly as I suspected, you were the one who called him!" she exclaimed.Linda trembled, her eyes welling up with tears as she gazed at Lucy.I managed to stagger to my feet from the ground, hastily grabbing some nearby clothing to cover myself.Meanwhile, the altercation between the two on the other side had reached its climax. The chauffeur was no match for the furious Trevis. With an enraged shout, Trevis landed a powerful punch to the chauffeur's abdomen, causing him to convulse momentaril

In the hospital, after coming out of the operating room, Trevis's wounds had been bandaged up. When the anesthesia wore off, Trevis woke up. I wasn't sure if he noticed me because, upon waking, he silently gazed at the ceiling with tears in his eyes.I held his hand, unable to hold back my tears either. My Trevis must have regretted bringing me home all those years ago, right? If it weren't for me, none of this would have happened.Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Police officers stood there, showing their badges."Both of you, please come with us," one of them said.I knew we were being taken to the police station for questioning. When Trevis tried to get up, I reached out to help him, but he moved away from my hand.He said, "I'm dirty."Then, he limped forward on his own.Once I finished giving my statement, the police released me. However, Trevis was temporarily detained on charges related to the assault. I understood that even if the chauffeur didn't lose his life,

I returned home, feeling as if I had lost my soul along the way. However, when I used the spare key hidden beneath the doormat to unlock the door, I was left utterly stunned. There, seated calmly on the couch, was Linda. I had no idea how she had managed to enter. With a sudden smile, Linda remarked, "Kathryn, you haven't changed a bit, still keeping your keys under the doormat."It was a habit I had shared with her back when we used to share a bed. I asked her coldly, "What brings you here?"She stood up, walked towards me, and suddenly knelt in front of me, pleading, "Kathryn, I've come to ask for your help."She wanted me to alter my testimony, to claim that Lucy had fainted and hit her head on a stone by herself. I shouted firmly, "Why should I?"She replied, "Lucy deserved to die. Even if her brains splattered, it's her own fault. This testimony will benefit both of us."I responded with a cold tone, "So, you can avoid being arrested, isn’t it?"She looked at me and abruptl

The following day, Trevis and I went to the police station to provide our statements. Given that Trevis had acted in self-defense, there were no significant issues there. As for my younger brother and dad, they were facing charges of threats, intimidation, and burglary, which could result in prison sentences. My mom tearfully pleaded with me to sign a forgiveness letter, but I didn't even spare her a glance.Over the weekend, Trevis and I visited the mall and bought a stack of books,"Spoiling My Beloved Wife", "The Intimate Moments with My Boss", " Mr. Billionaire, Don’t Run Away" ...and many more.Trevis looked a bit awkward at the checkout counter, with the cashier, a young lady, repeatedly stealing glances at him. I stood behind him, wearing a big smile. After our book shopping spree, Trevis joined me at my place to help me pack my belongings. He had agreed to let me move into his apartment~While I was packing some winter clothing, a few pieces were stored in the highest cabi

I rented a temporary house in Anglos City. I sent him messages for several consecutive days. He would reply, but the replies were cold. I went to the hot pot restaurant to find him, but he always made excuses about being busy. After multiple visits, I became recognized by most of the regular customers here. One day, I overheard them discussing my relationship with Trevis. Some mocked me for being blind, claiming that I shouldn’t waste my time on a guy like Trevis. They used many insulting words, which angered me. I ordered a glass of juice, discreetly sneezed into it, and then had the waiter deliver it to their table. Those people didn't suspect a thing and were quite thankful to me. Watching them sip the juice in their foolish manner, I couldn't help but laugh. However, when I turned around, Trevis was glaring at me, his face cold. He grabbed my arm and pulled me outside, scolding me."Kathryn, what you did was wrong!"It had been a while since I'd heard Trevis sco

He instructed the waiter to arrange a private room.As soon as the door to the private room closed, I hurriedly embraced him. "Trevis," I called out.His body tensed slightly, and he gently pushed me away. "Kathryn, you need to calm down first," he advised. With teary eyes, I inquired, "Don't you miss me at all?"He remained silent.I pressed on, "Have you read the book? I wrote it for you."He nodded with stiffness, his voice hoarse. "It's very well-written."I felt elated and attempted to hug him again, but he remarked, "So, someone as talented as you, Kathryn, shouldn't be associated with someone like me."I grew furious. "Someone like you? Tell me, what do you mean by that?"He chuckled self-deprecatingly, starting to list out the labels he pinned on himself: "Almost became a murderer, never went to college..."I couldn't bear to hear it anymore, standing there with tears welling up. "Trevis, that's not true, how can you think that way..." If it weren't for me, Trevis w

I had a complete falling out with my family. When I left, my younger brother kicked over a chair in anger, and my dad smashed the TV. They yelled, "If you want to go, just go, and never come back to this house!"My mom cried, saying, "Kathryn, we're doing this for your own good. He’s just a murderer…”But if it weren't for him, I might have died in my early teens. Without looking back, I left home and found a random motel to stay in.As the start of the school year approached, I packed my bags and headed to Harvard alone. In college, I was always incredibly busy. Busy with my studies, busy making money. I always thought about saving up enough money as soon as possible so that one day, when I found Trevis, he wouldn't have to struggle for a living anymore. One day during my junior year of college, I took a leave of absence and returned to Anglos City.It was supposed to be the day Trevis got released from prison. I had no idea where to find him, so I stood outside the priso

I arrived at the Pasfield residence, a place I never thought I'd step foot in during my lifetime. Transferring between prisons required approval from higher authorities. How could Trevis, an ordinary civilian, have managed it? There had to be something Lucy had said or done, pulling strings with the police to make it happen for him.But when I entered the room and saw Lucy, I could hardly believe it. She was clutching high school math homework, struggling to solve it. Simultaneously, she was sending messages to Trevis."Trevis, I don't understand this problem. Can you teach me?""Why are you ignoring me? If you don't want to teach me, just say it. You think I want you to teach me?"Even though she sent the messages, all she received in response were red exclamation marks. Trevis had long since blocked her.......I observed from the sidelines, growing increasingly alarmed by her erratic behavior. The servant let out a sigh and explained that ever since the day she had hit

I quickly reached my senior year of high school. During this year, I dedicated myself to my studies, immersing myself in textbooks. Some of my classmates were privy to certain secrets and would occasionally gossip, but I paid them no mind.I kept Trevis' photo tucked inside the inner pocket of my wallet, and whenever I felt utterly drained from the demands of senior year, I would steal a fleeting glance at it.Even amidst the busyness of senior year, I managed to send Trevis many letters. Almost every letter received a response from him. He was more concerned about my relationship with my family. To spare him from worrying, I would vaguely reply that everything was fine. But in reality, once they found out I could earn money through writing, they seized my bank card. Moreover, throughout my entire senior year, I didn't receive a single word of comfort. A year later, I secured a place at Harvard with the highest grades in the entire school. When I received my acceptance letter, I co

If I didn't hide away in my room, he might turn his anger toward me as well.My younger brother, on the other hand, was obsessed with video games. Every night, he would create a disruptive commotion, leaving me without a moment of peace. I couldn’t sleep well, and I often suffered from splitting headaches. It only made me miss Trevis even more.My brother eventually noticed that and loudly exclaimed, "You still haven't cut ties with that murderer!" It infuriated me.My father scolded me, saying, "

As I finished reading the letter, tears had already soaked the pages. I gathered Trevis’s belongings and took them back home, hardly sparing a glance at the string of numbers on the back. My dear Trevis, you were so clever, and I'm sure you knew the saying: "Home is where the heart is." The place where my heart found peace was my true home. So, I didn't want to leave. But even though I wished for that, I couldn't resist when that family came knocking at my door. On my way home from school that day, a woman blocked my path. The moment she saw me, tears welled up in her eyes, and she rushed to hug me. She called my name and claimed to be my real mother.
