Veronica's pov
As we got into my office, I exhaled quietly, moving towards my table as I went to set the things I held down. Hunter placed my laptop on my desk and sat on one of the two seats in front of my desk. I searched for my phone and found it under a document. I was shocked when I picked up the phone and saw I had thirty-nine missed calls. I carried my eyes off to give Hunter a slightly wide-eyed look.
"Were you that worried that you called me thirty-nine times?" I asked, my eyebrows climbing into my hairline.
He shook his head, "I only called you eight times." He said and I swiftly opened my phone to check who else called me.
Immediately I went into the call log, I saw I had a lot of missed calls from my dad. I just knew that something was wrong and I feared what it meant for my future.
Hunter apparently noticed my weird behavior and he rose put of the seat, standing alert as he watched me.
"What's wrong?" He asked me and I responded
Diana's bakeryCherry watched as her mother kept turning the same bolw of butter, staring into the bowl but not seeing the content within. Cherry also heard the occasional sighs that her mother wasn't even aware she was as making. She looked around and wondered what she could do that would bring her mother out of her downcasted mood since her occasional questions and comments were not enough to take the mood away. She picked the tray of cookies she had been working on, having finished it and moved to the oven to place the tray inside. She opened the already hot oven and was about to place the tray when the heat singed her flesh, making her drop the aluminum tray which gave a loud sound. She yelped more than necessary and Diana broke out of her dejection and ran to her."What happened?" She asked, searching her daughter's body with her hands and her face with her eyes."The heat from the oven.." Cherry explained, stifling her conscience as she watched
Mark watched the nurse as she stood, looking preoccupied with something on her phone. Mark would have preferred she left the room but he knew that wouldn't be possible, she already said she had orders from the doctor in charge."What did you find out?" Mark asked, focusing on his weak friend.Simon coughed drawing the attention of the nurse who made a show of checking her watch before she continued what it was she was doing."I told Adam a week before my last fight that I would be needing an advance payment from the life plan I had with him and he said he would think about giving me. I was pissed and told him that he didn't have to think about it, since it was obviomy money based on our agreement." He saw the question in my eyes concerning is impatience and he answered."I needed to buy the house. The price was finally right for me and It was a first come first serve basis." He informed me and I nodded. It was dream to buy a house for Dulce a d their futu
Bainbridge islandJameson quietly stayed in a corner, watching his wife as he floated in and out of sleep. The swelling on her head had reduced to a size that wasn't as big as it was initially and there was no sign of internal bleeding in the ct scan they ordered she do. The door made a slight sound as Kelly came in to the room,a pack of coffee and brown bags Jameson suspected contained some pastries. Kelly paused as she watched Betty, her eyes looking sad before she moved to him."I brought you something to eat." She said and he took the things from her and thanked her. She sat down beside him and together they watched in comfortable silence."Why aren't you going home?" Jameson asked as he took a sip of the hot beverage. She shrugged carelessly, "there's no way I can go home, mummy B needs me here with her. Why go home now when I might end up being worried." She said before turning to give him an accepting smile. Jameson watched her, feeling
Hunter's povI watched Veronica as she sat down, watching a show called glee. She didn't know but I had been watching her as she watched her phone, waiting for something. I was pretty sure it was word from her family on how everything was going. She looked more at the phone than the show she insisted I put on, occasionally releasing a depressing sigh. I could have but didn't want to force the issue, especially when I suspected her grandmother was just lying about the severity of her mother's condition. I knew she wanted to play on Veronica's conscience and it was hurting me to see it was working.I returned my gaze to the food I was preparing when a call came in; it was from my brother."Yo!" He said immediately I picked the call."How was it?" I asked, bringing my voice down to a whisper so she wouldn't hear what I was saying."Why are you whispering?" He asked."No reason, were you able to find it?" I asked, wanting to get the
Hunter had prepared spaghetti and meat balls, which by the way had been so delicious I kept stuffing my mouth with it. The flavors all came together to create a tasteful experience. I finished before him, wondering where my appetite had come from."You must have been very hungry to finish before me." He commented, nodding towards my empty plate. I answered with a nod of my own as I popped open a button of the short I had on."It also helped that the cook did a great job. Where did you learn to cook so well? Why am I even asking, I am sure it's from Esther because her food was delightful that night." I said and Hunter shook his head."I was already cooking for my sister and me before we were adopted. I learnt from my mother." He said, staring into space for a while before he looked at me. The overhead pendant light gave the kitchen a nice glow, making the scene more intimate. I so loved his kitchen."Your real mom." He gave me a nod.
Chad and Aaron watched as the woman they found as the mother of the dead lady, moved close to the body bag which contained nothing but the head they found. Aaron had seen a lot of violent murders but this was a first for him; he had never seen a body without a head before. He had questioned the sense of letting her see the head, but Chadwick had insisted that it couldn't be avoided as it was part of the procedure."I still don't feel comfortable with this." Aaron whispered to Chadwick as they watched her hand hoover over the bag."I sometimes wonder how you became a detective if you can't stomach this kind of stuff." Chadwick said dryly, looking bored a d unbothered by the whole thing. This was a mother discovering her child was dead in the worst way possible."Don't you feel anything?" Aaron asked, trying to guess the planet his partner was from."I didn't even feel anything when I was at the academy." Chadwick continued in that same bored tone that he a
Hospital(Writer's pov)~Mark watched as Dulce said goodbye to Simon, standing in one corner, trying to not look as they shared a kiss."I can't wait for you to come home." She said to him, blinking back tears in an effort not to cry a river over the recovering man."And I will, trust me and go home to rest," Simon said before turning to Philip, who had his hands folded as he watched them, "Take care of your sister for me, make sure you protect her before I get out of this place." Philip nodded."You don't have to tell me." Philip said in reply to Simon's request. Simon held a hand out and Philip moved closer to take it in his, giving his brother-in-law a tight hand shake."I..." Dulce began, staring at Simon and he lifted his face to look at her expectantly."You what?" He asked when she stopped speaking, giving her a questioning look as he waited for her."I..." She said again, twirling her fingers as she worrie
VeronicaI hadn't been able to sleep after I woke up in the middle of the night to pee. I just couldn't get my head to shut down as thoughts of what Hunter told me, mingle with what my father told me about Kelly danced around in my head. I didn't understand why I was thinking of kelly, or maybe I did understand, but I didn't want to analyze it. Analyzing it would mean that I was envious of her place in my family's life and her strength.Stop!I was already analyzing it.Hunter's words to me made me flinch as I recalled what he said to me, 'You don't have all the time in the world.'He was right, I didn't have all the time in the world to resolve my issue. If what had happened to mother had been worse, I would have been forced to go back home and see them, stepping my foot in the town I swore never to return to. But, I could get strong, resolve my mind and go back to town because I wanted to, not because I didn't have any choice.
