It wasn't more than five minutes later that Jade heard Ricky's sleepy husky voice calling from up the stairs, followed by the quiet sounds of his bare feet padding across the floor.

"Jade?" He called, his voice panicky. On waking up, his brain still in a state of drowsiness, he had involuntarily reached for her warm body as he usually did when he woke up, only to be met with emptiness.

The bed had still been warm though, the side of the bed unmade, as though she had got up in a hurry.

Worry had driven him to look for her immediately, and when he hadn't found her in the bathroom, he had taken the hallway, wondering if she had gone outside for some air.

The thought of her feeling suffocated with him irked him, but that of hearing her sobs from his living room sent his heart pounding in fear.
