THE ROOM was illuminated with glaring sunlight when Evelyn woke. She fluttered her lashes, noticing that she was still wrapped in Jason's arms, his bare chest rising and falling under her palm.

She winced as the recollections of what they had shared came crashing in like a natural disaster. She battled through the mist of sleep filled with erotic memories, some real, others born in dreams so explicit she wondered if some of them could have actually transpired.

As her mind gradually cleared, she slowly slipped off his arms not wanting to wake him, and circled the bed in a flash to where her nightdress and dressing robe was mixed up with Jason's own clothes on the floor.

Quietly, she reached for her robe and shrugged into it, she clutched her nightdress to her chest and she made the mistake of darting a glance at him.

He was sleeping gorgeously in the comfort of his bed. The large muscles of his chest heaved in a rhythmic pattern. The sun must really love his body bec

DORIS GAPED at her best friend, wide-eyed, and her palm lay right over her ajar mouth. She wasn't breathing. She couldn't breathe. Evelyn waved her hand at her shell-shocked friend. "Hello in there!" Even at that, Doris didn't blink an eye. She was finding it difficult to recover from the bombshell Evelyn had dumped on her. Evelyn exhaled. "Can you say something and stop gawping at me?" Doris shook her head rapidly as if she was pulling herself to reality. She grabbed a half-drunk bottle of water on the table and downed it completely. Doris panted. "Sorry. I'm still trying to process," she said breathlessly. "You're pregnant?! And you slept with Jason?!" Evelyn looked around nervously, even though they were in her private office far off from her employees. "Why don't you announce it to the entire world?" She whispered with clenched teeth. "Tone yourself down!" "Forgive me but this is too huge for me to take in." Doris looked up to the ceiling. "Oh. My. God

DEAR DIARY, Okay, this is ridiculous! I'm not a fan of writing in diaries but, what can I do? My therapist said I need to talk to someone and vent and let go of my emotional "baggage" to get better. I don't have any close friends or any friends at all. The only friend I have is my baby sister and I can't tell her all that's going on in my life. I just can't! I can't let her shoulder my pains when she's dealing with hers. I'm her big sister, I should look after her not the other way around. So it looks like it's just me and you, Diary. He-he!Evelyn flipped to the next page.Dear Diary, I'm really worried about Evelyn. I'm sure she's traumatized by the way our father treated us all. Whenever I try to make her talk about it, she shuts me out and says she's fine. I don't want her to fall into the clutches of depression as I did. I know she's keeping everything bottled up. I know 'cause I've been doing the same. I hope she can speak to me and let me help her.Dear Diary,

EVELYN DIDN'T realize how dark it had gotten outside when she was done reading the Abuela and Mamá tagged diaries. The moment she got engulfed in their sister's life story, she couldn't break free. It was like page after page of her happiness, her misery, her wins, and her losses. Evelyn couldn't believe how much her sister had concealed behind her beautiful smile. Clarissa had always made everything seem so easy in her life and directed her positive energy to solve other people's problems. Clarissa had made it her responsibility to make everyone in the family happy and comfortable. It had been her idea to go on a vacation even though it was too expensive for their budget. She worked her butt off to pay off bills, debt, and other trivial stuff. Evelyn felt terrible for all the times she had thrown tantrums when her sister hadn't been able to afford what she wanted. There was no day she didn't regret every single time she had rebelled and railed brutal words at her.

JASON WAS not all that surprised when Evelyn had dashed to the front door immediately to make it to Brad's residence that night. It had taken him more than words to convince her to calm down and wait until the next day and they can confront him together. After a restless, mostly sleepless night, he was still mulling over the previous day's episode the next morning when Evelyn walked into the kitchen with a ferocious look on her face indicating it was time to go. She looked like she hadn't had much sleep either and he understood why. He even understood why she wasn't speaking to him now on their way to Brad's house. It was more than a little obvious that she didn't trust him. It would take some time for her to get used to the idea that he was fully on her side. Jason would be patient with her. Since he knew, deep down inside, that he deserved every bit of how he was been treated, had was prepared to wait. And that was precisely what he was going to do. But he had

EVELYN WASN'T sure how she felt, especially ever since the confrontation she had with Jason and Brad but then again she couldn't stop herself from feeling relieved that Jason had nothing to do with her sister's death. When she had asked him if he was being completely honest with her and if he wouldn't betray her, he had promised he wasn't keeping anything else from her regarding her sister's case and it was completely safe for her to trust him. And he had kept his word. He had been doing everything he in his power to hasten the progress of the investigation. Ever since that day, he had been rather helpful... and sweet towards her. She couldn't deny the fact that they were getting quite closer than previously. They had shared their hypothesis and findings and in between the investigations they had shared "harmless kisses" —as Jason had tagged them to be. In fact, it wasn't strange to her anymore whenever Jason covers the space between them and captured her lip

ESCORTED BY a uniformed waiter, Evelyn ambled into the luxurious restaurant Matt had given her the address to. The elegant classical music playing faintly from the speakers filled the entire ambiance. When they got to the table for two Matt sat, he stood immediately closing the space between them and pulled her in a tight embrace. Then he pulled out the empty chair opposite his for her. "Thank you." Evelyn beamed as she sat down and glanced around in awe. The restaurant was beyond exotic. Even with the "Romantic dinner by candlelight" concept, its grandeur still reflected through the dim lights of the restaurant. The five-star rating that it was bestowed was no hoax. It took at least weeks to make a reservation in this place and it had taken Matt a day? He must had spend a lot on this dinner. After about twenty minutes, a few uniformed servers trooped in with their entrées, gingerly organizing them on the tabletop as a chef elucidated each delicious delicacy tha

"HOW COULD SHE?!" Jason growled aggressively as he paced the perimeter of the hall. He was fuming. Rage was an understatement of what he was feeling at the moment. He knew they were in a sham relationship but hadn't they agreed not to meet other people? Why was she so inconsiderate? It wasn't like him but he'd asked her a couple of times to go on a "friendly" date with him, he didn't want to be too forward to avoid making her uncomfortable around him but she'd always been busy with one thing or the other. He'd even planned to swallow his pride and ask her out today. He'd made the reservations and rehearsed the grand gestures, even though he knew she would probably decline. Jason had been all smiles when he spotted her walking out the entrance. He had almost hit the horn to draw her attention when he realized she was in a hurry to be somewhere. He wouldn't have been bothered if she was in a regular outfit, he would have just thought she was just going

WITH ROOF-RATTLING rage, Evelyn pounded behind the locked door and yelled at the top of her voice, "Open the door, Jason! Open the damn door!" She couldn't believe it. She couldn't believe Jason had locked her up. Was he out of his mind? Locking her up like this? What was she? His possession? She yelled, banging the door even louder but it all fell on deaf ears. "Damn you, Jason!" Evelyn spat, booting the door so hard that she felt her toes hurting within her heels. Then she remembered. OH MY GOD, MATT! She scurried back to the bed, flinging the duvet and pillows out of the way in the search for her phone. Then it clicked... she'd dropped it alone with her purse at the stairs when she'd been battling with Jason. "Damn it!" She muttered under her breath. She couldn't even at least call Doris to go pick Matt up. If anything ever happened to Matt, she wouldn't be able to forgive herself and most especially, JASON! How could he be so cruel? Tired out

"And the Grammy Award for Record of the Year goes to... Jason Lyndon for his hit song 'Hello, Lover!'" the announcer boomed into the microphone, as a huge cheer rose from the crowd. But there was no sign of Jason on stage. A moment of confusion passed through the crowd as they waited for the winner to accept the award. The announcer equally confused, gave another shot at calling him. But there was still no answer. Where was Jason Lyndon? He was just sitting amongst the other celebrities with his wife a few moments ago? Finally, Jason's current personal assistant, James Clarkson, looking dapper in his tuxedo, walked up to the microphone and cleared his throat. "I'm sorry to disappoint everyone," he said. EVELYN'S HEART slammed painfully against her chest, as the lights dimmed and the first model walked down the runway. THIS WAS IT! This was the moment she had been waiting for all her life, the culmination of months of hard work and endless nights of toil to craft the best collection. Now, she was here in the Paris Fashion Week and her designs readied to be on display for the world to see. And she wasn't here alone. Her loved ones who'd been there for her through it all were here to witness this big win with her. As each model stepped onto the stage, wearing her creations, Evelyn's breath ceased and her heart thumped faster. She watched as the crowd gasped and murmured, their eyes drawn to the fabrics and the shapes that her designs created. It was like a dream come true. With each new design that appeared on the runway, Evelyn felt a surge of pride and happiness. Her vision was coming into existence, right before her eyes. She could see the intricate deta

IT WAS NOVEMBER 20TH AGAIN. The day The Rodriguez would never forget. The day they had lost Clarissa. The family had been unable to hold a memorial service for her since her death because they felt it would be a travesty to honor her while her killer walked free. It was too painful to commemorate her life when there was still so much left unresolved. It felt like admitting defeat, like giving up on justice. But even though they hadn't been able to properly honor her, they had never forgotten her. They still carried her memory in their hearts, and they knew that someday, they would come a year when they'll be proud to give her the memorial she deserved. As she looked out at the multitude gathered to honor the life of her sister, Evelyn felt a surge of emotion. She had never expected such a turnout and it brought tears of joy, sadness, and a sense of fulfillment. For a week straight, the words "We're sorry, Clarissa" and "Rest in peace, Clarissa" had been topping th

"WHOOAA!!!" LIVVIE exclaimed as she gaze around The Lyndons Manor living room. "I feel like I just died and went to an inventor's heaven." Evelyn was in awe too. In the corner of the living room, there was a massive holographic projector, which could display anything from a relaxing fireplace to a movie screen. The lighting could be shifted to suit any mood, from a cozy glow to a bright, energizing hue. A zero-gravity recliner that can massage the muscles and even heat up for added comfort. The Lyndon's Manor was truly a sight to behold. It was both futuristic and cutting-edge, while also exuding luxury and comfort. The interior was adorned with state-of-the-art gadgets, from self-cleaning floors to an AI-powered fridge that could order groceries and meal kits when it was running low. Every corner was designed to maximize productivity and efficiency, while also providing a space for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. The decor was sleek and minimalist, with an emphasis on clean l

"JASON...?" Evelyn searched his pale and weak face as his eyes fluttered open and focused on her. When he saw her, a smile broke out on his face. "Hey!" Jason whispered, his voice hoarse from disuse. Evelyn's heart swelled with relief. "I was so worried about you," she said, her voice shaking. "Are you okay?" He reached up to brush her face but she took his hand in midway and squeezed it gently. "I think I'm okay now," he said. "You think?" Evelyn dropped his hand, abruptly. "You think...?" She began to beat his chest softly in feigning annoyance as Jason laughed and groaned weakly. "Do you know how worried I was? I thought I'd lost you. How could you scare me like that? How dare you try to die on me?" Evelyn said, still thumping his chest. "Aw! Evy..." Jason winced. "I'm a patient, remember?" "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to hit hard," He rubbed the front of the blue and white striped hospital attire. "My chest hurt." Evelyn caressed his che

JASON DIDN'T care if the criminals were successfully disarmed by the cops, his priority was Evelyn. His heart was pounding in his chest, and his hands trembling as his eyes scanned the room for any sign of the woman he loved. Then he saw her. She was sitting on a metal chair, her hands bound to it. Her eyes were closed, her face was slightly bruised and her cloth bloodied. But she was still breathing, and he felt a rush of relief wash over him. He ran to her side, dropping to his knees and gently lifting her head, checking her body for any other sign of injury. "Are you okay?" He asked, his voice hoarse with emotion. "Ja--Jason! She did it. She--she killed Clarissa," Evelyn stuttered, her eyes unsteady. "She killed my sister." Jason nodded. "Shh! Shh! I know. I know," said softly, trying to free her from her bonds. "Get the keys to this damn thing." One of the uniform officers passed him the bunch of keys he found on the table while the rest fanned out, securi

SEVEN YEARS AGO: THE DAY OF CLARISSA'S DEATH... Clarissa was disheartened and looked all ruffled up as she trudged reluctantly away from Jason's mansion. Like having that horrible fight with her little sister wasn't enough for one day, that lunatic Diane Smithson had to show up and launched her latest exhibition of obsession on her. But how had she found out about Olivia's biological father? Clarissa thought. Julia was the only person she'd told about this. No one else. Not even her family. She was already suspicious of Julia, especially after she'd found out about her background which Julia had so flawlessly lied about. She'd still given her the benefit of the doubt because probably she might have been ashamed of her past. But disclosing what she'd told her in confidentiality was not acceptable. Clarissa pulled out her phone in the intention of confronting Julia about it but her weak voice over the phone discouraged her. Instead of confronting her, she resulted to as

EVELYN INHALED, stirring groggily. Her eyes fluttered open as she slowly began to regain consciousness. Her vision was still blurred as she struggled to figure out how where she was. She was in a dimly lit room, the only light coming from a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The room was bare, save for a few cardboard boxes and a single, metal chair that sat in front of her. She tried to sit straight, but a wave of dizziness and nausea hit her and she slumped back down. Her head throbbed, and as she raised her hand to reach for the back of her head, she realized that her wrists were chained to the arms of the metal chair she was sitting on and as her eyes adjusted to the dim light, she could see that her ankles were shackled to the legs of the chair. She winced as she strained her head, striving to remember how she had gotten here, then her memory came surging with maximum force. She began to call out, hoping someone would hear her and come to her aid. As she strugg
