OPHELIA

"Thank you," I murmured, a blush forming across my cheeks as Nicholas held the car door open for me.

His face was surprisingly bright and his green eyes were luminous, so I wondered what it was that brought upon him this sudden urge to leave Washington. I hardly allowed him to close the door behind himself before I started to bombard him with questions.

"Where are we going? And how come you are taking the week off? No, how come I am taking the week off?"

"Slow down."

He shook his head in amusement as he leaned forward to mutter our destination in Shane's ear, before he turned back to me. His penetrating eyes still managed to take me off guard as they focused on me.

How had I missed him so much when we had only been apart for a few hours? I questioned myself.

"Someone is filing a lawsuit against my company," he suddenly said.

"What? Who?" I questioned in alarm.

"Sarah," he replied.

"What?!" I stared at him with wide eyes at the bombshell he just dropped.

"Don't worry, s

NICHOLAS I checked my watch and I was relieved to see that there was only about an hour left before the end of the flight. Thank God, I thought. I wanted to get off this cramped plane as soon as possible. I had plans for this vacation. Real plans. And although I did hope to solve some of our problems along the way, I also wanted to explore more with Ophelia. Sex with her so far had been… well, beyond anything I had ever experienced. But I also wanted to do more. So much more. Just as I was thinking about this, a flight attendant appeared with trays of food balanced in her arm. My stomach grumbled in appreciation. I had been so devoted to beating up punching bags at the gym this morning that I must have forgotten to eat breakfast. Suddenly, the enormity of that realization hit me and I almost doubled back. Did this morning's events really distract me so much that I forgot to have a meal? I didn't think I had forgotten a meal in… well, forever. The flight attendant's wide smile li

NICHOLAS I could only tap my knuckles aimlessly on the table for so long before I knew that I had to go out and find her. I tried my best to understand what she was trying to tell me with all those accusations on my own, but I just couldn't do it without her input no matter how hard I tried to. I could hardly think straight knowing she was wandering around on her own in a foreign country. It was so ironic that the only way I could figure out how to talk to her was with her there to tell me how. What the hell would I do if she left for good? I had to stop my movements for a moment as queasiness enveloped me. She would never… would she? At least, not over a stupid fight like this. And especially not when we just started what was supposed to be a romantic vacation. I resisted the urge to punch a hole in the plaster wall of our empty villa and instead, I headed for the elevator. For how long had she felt like this? Like I wanted to have power over her? I didn't even realize it was a

OPHELIA He smirked as he pulled away to push open the two large doors leading into what must have been another room of the villa. "I think I will fuck you in the office. Does that sound good?" I nodded hurriedly, then I grabbed onto his shirt as he grabbed my hips once again and speedily placed me down on the smooth wood of his desk. "Use your words, baby girl," he commanded as he pushed my dress up my thighs. "Yes," I replied."Yes, what?" he questioned. I groaned as I tried to pull him closer to me but he wasn't having any of it. He was refusing to give me any power. Wow, this wasn't it. "Yes, I want you to fuck me in your office," I finally said.He ripped my underwear from my body, before he stepped in between my legs. The teasing chuckle I heard was only emphasized when he sucked roughly on the delicate skin below my ear. Then he suddenly stepped forward so his leg brushed my bare clit. I gasped as I finally got to feel some friction on the sensitive area. "Grind on me."

OPHELIA I woke up with a start. A sheen of sweat was coating my body and my heart was pounding rapidly in my chest. I abruptly realized that this must have been a nightmare's doing which meant that Nicholas wasn't here because he would surely have woken me up. As I predicted, when I got out to the other side of our massive king-sized bed, all I felt was a tangle of sheets and pillows. So where did he go? I questioned myself.I checked my phone on the nightstand beside me and groaned audibly when I saw the numerous messages from my job, probably concerning the work I needed to catch up on while I was on leave. My phone screen notified me that it was currently 9 AM, so Nicholas would have already gotten up. I grabbed my phone and wrestled my way out of the covers and left the bedroom, heading in the direction of what I thought is the kitchen, although it was hard to tell because every room in this immense villa looked relatively the same. It was spacious and modern with one glass w

OPHELIA A car pulled up to the resort at 12 PM sharp, and I could hardly contain my excitement as we finally began our first proper day of vacation. We spent the entire morning relaxing and having a tour on a beautiful powerboat which comprised of only the two of us, as we toured the crystal blue waters of the Atlantic and also took candid pictures of the stunning views we encountered along the way. As the sun finally began to set at around 5 PM, Nicholas suddenly announced that he had also booked an evening snorkeling tour of the coral reefs and sunken shipwrecks along the coast. All the stress that once surrounded both Nicholas and I quickly faded away as we hurriedly changed into our swimming wear. I decided to put on my most modest bikini — since Rianne packed three for this vacation — and save the most daring one for later in the trip. There is more to come, I thought as Nicholas did a double take at my attire, before insisting that I wear his shirt on top of it. As we head

NICHOLAS I resisted the urge to throw the hotel lamp at the wall but instead, I opted for pacing around the room to ease my anger instead. Why couldn't she get off that phone of hers for just a second? It was as if that new job had taken a complete priority in her life, and suddenly I was now in the background. And I really hated being in the background. She started working there when we were still broken up so at first, I just made do with the fact that she had been emailing and editing documents over the phone all day. Of course, I understood that it was somewhere for her to escape to when I wasn't there for her, but what did she need to escape from now? A quiet knock on the door interrupted my thoughts which were threatening to consume me whole. "Nick?" Her soft voice rang through the silent air, and the sound of footsteps soon followed as she entered inside without an invitation. She closed the door silently behind her, and the cautious look on her face told me that she was

OPHELIA The TV blared a random advert as we lay swaddled under the covers. Nicholas had his arm draped around me, and I had my legs entwined with his. "I thought we were going to sleep," I said to Nicholas as I looked him over.Nicholas glanced quickly at me as he replied. “Let's watch this last one and then we will go to sleep, I promise.” The fifth episode of 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' we were watching tonight began to play on the flat screen television in front of us as I sighed in exasperation. There were a few seconds of silence before I voiced the question that I had been pondering on since Nicholas expressed his newfound love of reality TV to me earlier on tonight. “How often do you watch TV?" I asked him curiously.“Hardly ever." His reply was instant. “Actually, I never even watched TV before I met you." “But what about when you were younger? Like, before you became a CEO and everything?" I questioned further.“No, I didn't have the time to do that. Or even if I

NICHOLAS I woke up to the uncomfortable feeling of a pull on my arms. Suddenly, the sound of a girlish laugh rang through the air, although I couldn't quite tell where it was coming from as I squinted in the bright lights above me. I tried to sit up but then, I suddenly realized that I couldn't move my arms. My eyes shot open instantly and I began to look around. "Ophelia?" I called out, only to lift my head up and see her sitting on the leather armchair to my left. "Hmm?" she called out too as she looked boldly at me.A playful smirk was plastered across her face, but my gaze couldn't seem to leave her body. I tried very hard to collect my thoughts and surroundings as I took in her gloriously naked state, then I twisted my body to figure out what the hell was holding me down. After a few seconds, I realized that I was being held down by dressing gowns. And they were binding me to the bedpost. All of a sudden, the conversation me and Ophelia had before we went to sleep last nigh

NICHOLAS Two hours later, we were sitting in my bed, swaddled under the covers with a random movie playing on the television. Our legs were tangled together with her cheek was against my chest, and there were plates of unfinished food around the dresser beside us. Usually, the mess would have been bugging me but right now, there were more important things on my mind. Currently, it was watching Ophelia’s face break into laughter every time something funny happened on the screen. Her hair was usually in the way, but when I did glance down and saw her chuckling softly, something powerful ignited inside of me. I loved seeing her smile. Infact, I needed to see her smile. It has become as essential as food and water to me and I had never been so captivated by someone before in my life. She noticed my stillness and tilted her head up to glance at me. She was silently asking me what was wrong, but I couldn't think of a single cheeky remark, not even a joke to hide my true intentions. Her

OPHELIA It took me half an hour to find him but when I did, I somewhat wished that I hadn't. He was sitting on a bench outside the hospital entrance, and I realized that he often resorted to these when he wanted no one to find him. My heart was pounding in my chest as I gazed at him from afar for a moment. I could immediately tell that there was something wrong with him. He was curled up with his head in his hands and even from across the street, I could see that he was shivering. When I got closer, I realized that it was not just from the cold because he was shaking with sobs. Infact, his body was wracked with them."Oh, Nicholas," I whispered and raced up to him as fast as I could. He tried to stand up but not before I grabbed his hand to pull him back down. The sound of his harsh breathing as he roughly wiped his tears away was the only sound on the desolate street surrounding us. “Talk to me," I pleaded. Alarmed, I tried to place a hand on his face but he shifted away. "Don't

OPHELIA I walked through the admissions foyer of the hospital and Rianne's mother was waiting for me at the entrance. After greeting her warmly, I immediately asked her if Rianne was awake yet, although deep down I knew that it was a long shot because she probably would have texted me.It still hurt to hear that nothing had changed since she left last night. I tried not to show my disappointment on my face though. "She may have come to overnight. I haven't seen her yet today because I was waiting for you." I smiled at her thoughtfulness before she continued. "So is your other half coming today?" I pursed my lips at her question and she read my expression immediately. "Don't worry about it, dear. He did seem a little uncomfortable yesterday. I am sorry if it was because of me." "No, no, it wasn't. He should be here soon. He is just at work right now." "Oh?" She looked at me inquisitively as we walked side by side through the Accident and Emergency unit."Where is he working? I am

  • When Love Lasts   Chapter Ninety Six

OPHELIA I woke up with a start, struggling to catch my breath as the vivid pictures from my nightmare slowly faded from my mind. I couldn't help my frustration when I realized that this was the second one I had had in the past few days. I really thought I was over them. When I glanced to my left, I could see that there was already light outside the wall-sized window. Where did Nicholas go? My eyelids were heavy so I clearly hadn't slept long enough to catch up on sleep entirely, but it was disappointing nonetheless to know that he must still be working. I got to my feet, deciding to go and get some water since my throat was abnormally dry. I walked into the kitchen, surprised to see a new bag sitting on the floor next to my own. I recognized it as Nicholas's suitcase, and I automatically assumed that someone must have found it in our villa in The Bahamas and delivered it here. Maybe Shane arrived in Washington and brought this bag with him? Both bags were unmoved from in front of

OPHELIA "Nick. Hey, where are you going? Nicholas!" I caught up to him and eventually, he accepted that he couldn't ignore me any longer and hesitantly turned around. "Why are you leaving?" I asked him."We can come back when she is conscious," he replied ."I don't understand. We waited for hours to see them and now you want to leave?" He looked at me and I realized that he was breathing harder than usual. His eyes were wide and his face was abnormally pale. "Can we just… go? Please?" His voice was trembling and suddenly, I blanched, realizing that this may be much more than I thought it was. "Ohh, okay. But please just tell me what is going on." I hurriedly signed us out at the front desk and scuttled after him. The front doors slid open as we left the hospital, and I was thankful that the sun had risen in the time we had been inside. The cold was still biting, but it was not as harsh as it had been earlier. "It was difficult for me to watch them together," he finally said

  • When Love Lasts   Chapter Ninety Four

OPHELIA The clock continued to tick mockingly on the wall opposite us, marking time passing painfully slowly. It was only the end of November, but it was already viciously cold in the waiting room as if it was already full-blown winter. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I felt as if I was freezing to death, even as I was with Nicholas's jacket on and his arms were wrapped around me. Minutes became an hour, and an hour becames hours. I had lost track of how long we had been sitting in the waiting room by the time a doctor appeared, asking if we were here to see Rianne Thomas and Dave Hank. Rianne's mother and I jumped out of our seats, both with expectant expressions on our faces. Nicholas stayed back as the doctor introduced himself, and I thought he was probably wondering if he would even be allowed to see them because he wasn't direct family of Rianne's, or even that close to her. In fact the last time I checked, they hated each other's guts. "Hi, I am Doctor Nathaniel.” T

  • When Love Lasts   Chapter Ninety Three

OPHELIAIt must have gotten considerably colder in Washington while we were away, because the few cars parked by the hospital had a layer of thick white snow on their roofs, and the ground was coated with icy mud. The moment Nicholas parked the car in the deserted parking lot, I was ready to unbuckle my seatbelt and bolt to Rianne's side. I already felt terrible that we weren't here sooner but hopefully, her mother would understand because we were halfway across the world when we were informed of the accident. Nicholas seemed to sense my predicament because he turned to me the second we were no longer moving. "Go," he said and I smiled gratefully as I scurried out of the car and up to the towering hospital entrance. I could see Nicholas's figure reflected in the glass of the front doors. He was looking slightly less calm and collected than usual as he walked in behind me. I, on the other hand, couldn't seem to breathe as the place we were suddenly dawned on me. The last time I wen

NICHOLAS Eventually, she detached her lips and smiled lazily at me before she opened her mouth to speak. “You don't know what I want to do to you right now," she whispered as she sat up and began to plant small kisses on my neck. I must have been too preoccupied with trying to unzip my jeans to notice the way she sucked and nibbled harshly on the skin just below my ear for a little too long. “Nice.” Her tone was proud as she kissed the tender skin one final time. Just then, I froze as what she just did suddenly dawned on me. "You did not just give me a hickey," I bit out but she just grinned widely at me so I went on, "You have got to be kidding me. I have important meetings coming up." She continued to smile, and it was beyond contagious as her hand landed on my boxers. She rubbed the material over my bulge as I nuzzled my head into the crook of her neck. "I am sure I can make it up to you," she said and that same smile was still on her face. "Oh, I am sure you can." My voice

NICHOLAS I soon grew tired of the silent driving. I really thought Ophelia would have broken and spoken to me by now, but I guess I didn't realize just how upset with me she was. Out of instinct, I reached over and brushed the hair out of her eyes, but she only stiffened at my small display of affection. My hand found hers and I pulled it to my lips so that I could kiss it tenderly with my eyes still on the road as I steered with one hand. She didn't snatch it away, which I guessed was a good sign. So I dragged my kiss down to her knuckles and wrist next, feeling the softness of her pale skin beneath my lips. She still didn't show any emotion, as she kept on listening to whatever song she had playing on her phone. I put her hand back in her lap in defeat, resting my arm on her thigh instead. I waited a silent minute or so before I couldn't help myself any longer. Then I began to rub the skin on her leg just below the hem of her dress. Cautiously, I made a move to slide my hand fu
