"Did he say anything to you in secret?" Avery asked.

Mike chuckled softly and looked as if he had heard a good joke. "Do you think your son is the type of person to reveal his secrets to others? He barely says two sentences to you, and you are his mother. He doesn't speak to others at all, okay? The first night he was at the new school, the teacher actually asked me if he had a speaking disability."

Avery was shocked. "Didn't you say he was settled down?!"

"He is! I asked his teacher about it, and she said that she and the other students are used to him now. She guaranteed that he won't get bullied. Doesn't that count as him being settled down?" Mike let out a hea
