"I said it’s great!" Leon blurted out, his eyes sparkling as he looked at Aric. "Because my herbs work—it helped you!"

But his excitement didn’t seem to reach Aric. Instead, Aric’s expression grew colder, a shadow of danger creeping over his face like a silent storm brewing on the horizon.

"Are you pitying me now?" Aric’s voice was low, laced with restrained anger.

Leon froze, his smile stiffening. He hadn’t expected such a response from Aric.

"No, of course not!" he quickly explained, panic flickering. "I’m just happy because the herbs and portion actually worked!"

"So..." Aric stared at him, his gaze dark and icy, "you’re happy because your herbs worked and indirectly it helped me." His voice was terrifyingly calm, yet it sent a chill straight to the bone. "It seems, then, that what makes us ‘happy’ isn’t quite the same."

"Huh?" Leon was completely baffled, even a bit lost. But the next second, Aric’s eyes sharpened, their edge cutting straight into Leon’s chest like a blade.

When Leon saw the female ghost again, he stood before the familiar, rusted iron door, his emotions a tangled web of unease and curiosity. As he turned around, there she was—her figure still flickering like a wavering flame. An icy aura lingered around her, cold but not menacing.“My kind benefactor…” Her voice was low, as though it emerged from the depths of some faraway abyss, yet it carried a faint trace of sincerity.Leon froze for a moment, pointing to himself in disbelief. “M-me? Are you talking about me?”The female ghost gave a gentle nod, her gaze resting on him with a complexity that seemed to carry a thousand untold stories. “Yes. Thanks to you, the wicked spirit who tormented me has been scattered to oblivion. I am finally free.”Leon pressed his lips together, the weight of past events settling on his mind. After a pause, he furrowed his brow and asked, “Was he… truly that cruel?”Hearing those words, a flicker of hatred crossed the female ghost’s face. She closed her eyes

“Lady Lisa?” Leon answered, “But I haven’t had the chance to speak with her in person.”“That’s probably for the best,” Rose scoffed lightly, her tone tinged with disdain. “Her methods are so cruel; just imagine how dangerous she must be herself. Remember this—if you ever cross paths with her again, and you don’t have anyone reliable by your side, don’t engage with her too deeply.”There was a sincerity in her words that made Leon’s heart warm. He felt a deep sense of gratitude, moved by the care she showed him. In just a few brief encounters, she had offered him a kind of concern he’d never felt before, not even from his human stepmother. He spoke softly, his voice filled with sincerity. “Thank you, Rose.”Rose gave his shoulder a gentle pat, smiling. “Silly boy, there’s no need to thank me for that.”Then, suddenly, her tone shifted. “Now, tell me, how’s life at Aric’s place?”Leon blinked, caught off guard. The question hung in the air for a moment, and he found himself swallowing

Elian had been rushing to catch up, his face showing signs of concern. But when he saw Leon’s carefree, almost “school’s out” demeanor, his tension seemed to evaporate like mist.Unable to help himself, he called out, “Leon!”Leon looked up and, seeing that it was Elian, he stopped and asked, “Elian, are you looking for me?”“Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about last night,” Elian replied, calm but laced with an undertone of something more serious.“Last night?” Leon blinked in surprise, and then certain images flashed in his mind, causing his face to flush red. He instinctively took a step back. “It’s not... something too personal, is it?”Seeing his reaction, Elian couldn’t help but chuckle softly. “Don’t worry, it’s definitely not personal.”“Then... you already know, don’t you?” Leon’s voice dropped to a barely audible whisper, his face turning an even deeper shade of red. He almost wished the ground would open up and swallow him whole.“Given the messiness of the room… it’s hard t

A warmth spread through Leon’s chest, and he quietly followed Elian down the path. Yet, despite the comfort of Elian’s presence, Selena’s sharp, dangerous gaze and her parting words, “I suppose we’ll meet again if fate allows,” lingered in his mind like an unshakable shadow.“What does she really want?” The question gnawed at him, sharp and insistent, like a needle piercing his thoughts, leaving him with a sense of unease he couldn’t quite shake off.As Leon pushed open the door, he found Aric already waiting inside. The soft glow of the evening sun streamed through the windows, wrapping Aric in a halo of warm light. Yet his eyes betrayed a hint of unease, layered with emotions too complex to decipher.Leon hadn’t intended to say much, but the sight of Aric’s face immediately brought back the mortifying memories from that morning. His brows furrowed instinctively, and an awkward tension settled between them like an invisible wall.Elian, ever practical, gave Aric a brief set of instru

He lowered his head for a moment, taking a deep breath to compose himself. When he looked up again, his tone softened a hint of determination in his voice. “Come on, just wear it. It’s not like it’ll cost you anything. And... it’s a gift from me.”Leon’s voice dropped slightly, but the way he said it—soft and almost coaxing—struck Aric like a direct hit to the senses, making his heart stir ever so slightly.Aric studied him with an unreadable expression before a slow, amused smile tugged at his lips. “Hmm… then put it on for me.”Leon was caught off guard. His mind blanked for a second before heat rushed to his ears, turning them a deep shade of red. He bit his lip, reminding himself: “It’s fine. Rose said this is part of the plan. Nothing to panic about!”Taking a small step closer, he carefully picked up the bracelet. His fingers trembled slightly from nerves, and when they accidentally brushed against Aric’s wrist, he instinctively flinched as though he had been shocked. But the ne

Leon’s brow furrowed deeper, clearly dissatisfied with the answer. Without wasting another moment, he stepped forward, turning Aric to face him. They stood face-to-face, and without hesitation, Leon grabbed Aric's cheeks, squeezing firmly, forcing their gazes to lock.“Think carefully!” Leon’s voice was almost a command, carrying a stubborn insistence that left little room for refusal.Aric paused for a moment, then smiled, a knowing grin curling at the corners of his lips. “You’re rather fierce.”Leon didn’t respond. He simply stared at him, his clear eyes filled with urgency and determination, making it impossible for anyone to look away.Aric raised an eyebrow, then suddenly bent down, his hands gripping Leon effortlessly as he lifted him and placed him on the nearby table."Give me a kiss, and I’ll think seriously," Aric said, straightening up, his hands casually resting on the edge of the table, his tone light and teasing.Leon froze for a moment, then instinctively flushed. “You

“What about you?” He spoke softly, with a hint of restrained emotion in his voice. “You... you could’ve just ignored it.”“I could have, but that’s Caelum... my good friend,” Aric replied, his words simple but unwavering, his gaze carrying no hesitation."Aren't you afraid of being demoted?" Leon's voice was urgent, confused. "Didn't they say that even the ruling class could be cast down to the third tier? And in severe cases, even to the very bottom?"Aric glanced at him, his expression indifferent, as if such dangers were of no concern to him. He shrugged, his tone as calm as if he were discussing the weather. "Well, I gave up something important in exchange."Leon froze for a moment, his brows knitting together. "What did you give up?""The throne," Aric said matter-of-factly like it was nothing more than a trivial detail. For a brief moment, the air seemed to solidify. Leon stared at him, eyes wide with disbelief. "The throne?!""That's right." Aric turned to gaze out the window,

Leon was momentarily stunned. He thought about it and realized there was some truth to it. He nodded but couldn't help adding, "You're right. This place is a bit different from what I expected… full of surprises." He deliberately paused at that point, glanced at Aric, and added with a smirk, "Of course, some of them are more like shocks."Aric looked at him, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Your arrival was a surprise to me as well. And also…"Leon instinctively sensed something hidden in those words. He narrowed his eyes. "Also what?"Aric's voice dropped slightly, laced with an amused undertone. "Astonishing.""A-Astonishing?" Leon was caught off guard. He hadn’t expected Aric to describe him that way. "What do you mean?"Aric’s smile deepened, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "That kind of astonishing—your flushed body, the way you moaned so beautifully. I still remember it vividly.""You—!" Leon’s face instantly turned scarlet. He jumped up, pointing at Aric wi

The wind howled fiercely at the mountain’s peak, whipping against Leon’s cloak as he stood at the summit, gazing down at the royal palace below. Yet, despite the commanding view, uncertainty gnawed at his heart.“Will this work?” he murmured, his palms slick with a faint sheen of sweat from how tightly he clenched his fists.Beside him, Aric stood unwavering, his deep-set eyes reflecting nothing but absolute certainty. Without a word, he gently ruffled Leon’s hair, his touch impossibly soft.“Believe in yourself,” he murmured, his voice carrying a quiet magic that soothed as much as it reassured. “And believe in me who believes in you.”Leon stiffened, a sharp jolt striking through his chest as if something had collided with his very core.No one had ever trusted him like this before.Taking a deep breath, he steadied himself, forcing the turmoil in his heart to settle. The rigor of the law and the reduction in crime rates had become his most difficult challenge. Simply relying on education and increasing the work output of the lower tiers didn’t seem to offer a complete solution to the deeply ingrained issues."What exactly should I do…"Every time that question arose, he would throw himself into hours of reading legal documents, historical records, and security management plans from various regions. He was determined to find an effective path forward, but despite all his efforts, he found no breakthrough in inspiration. The Enforcement Division’s task wasn’t any easier. They seemed more like an “enforcement agency” rather than one capable of proactively altering the security environment.Leon realized he had hit a deadlock. That day, Leon had been expecting the latest updates from the Enforcement Division. As he pored over several legal tomes, searching for a breakthrough, the person who arrived wasn’t from the Enforcement Division at all—it was Ar

His voice lowered slightly, laced with just the right amount of temptation, striking at the very core of these officials’ ambitions, “Or—are you willing to take a small calculated risk to create a system where palace life and resources don’t just remain steady—but continuously grow?”“After all, we’re talking about a low-cost, high-return investment… aren’t we?”At those words, many officials’ expressions shifted. The hesitation that once clouded their faces gave way to murmured discussions.Someone muttered thoughtfully, “...If this boosts overall productivity, then it might be worth trying.”“And besides, whether it succeeds or not, we don’t have to leave the palace ourselves. All we need to do is allocate resources.”“In the long run, if this increases material output and reduces the palace’s dependency on existing stores… it’s a viable strategy.”Seeing this, Leon tapped his fingers lightly against the table, his tone calm and measured, “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t need you to d

After becoming an advisor to the Four Major Divisions and the deputy head of another, Leon took Caelum on a series of visits to various divisions where he had acquaintances—places he was familiar with but seldom engaged with daily.Their first destination was the Education Division.Leon had been here a few times before. Initially, it was out of curiosity while researching the history of the Blackwood Continent. He had encountered some questions and, on a whim, decided to seek answers here. What he hadn’t expected was that his inquiry would lead him directly to the division’s head.At first, the head hadn’t placed much expectation on him. But as their conversation unfolded, he was taken aback—this human was not just a physician. His knowledge was extensive and well-grounded, and in certain areas, he had delved into depths even the local scholars had never considered. They found themselves surprisingly in sync. The head, impressed by Leon’s intellect, chose not to withhold anything and

Leon took a deep breath and told Aric about the hidden door in Selena’s workshop.Aric’s eyes darkened slightly. "…This isn’t something we can rush. It needs careful planning."Leon smiled. "Then I’ll leave it to you."Aric pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Sure."The next morning, Leon yawned, fastening his outer robe as he made his way toward the door. Another ordinary day awaited him—returning to his work at the medical division, digging further into records about the Demon God, or perhaps reviewing intelligence reports from outside the palace. But just as his fingers brushed the door handle, a sudden, violent tremor erupted from the desk behind him. It was the book from Zalethos. —Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! The vibrations were so intense that the entire desk shook, dust scattering into the air. It was as if some ancient and formidable power was about to break free.Leon whipped around, his gaze sharp and wary as he stared at the book. “…What is it this time?” he muttered under his breath, c

Someone was behind this. Someone with knowledge, resources, and an agenda.Aric knew that if he wanted to put an end to the chaos, he had to uncover the mastermind pulling the strings. At the same time, Leon remained immersed in his work as head of the Medical Division. His days were filled with treating patients, developing new remedies, and refining potions—an endless cycle of responsibility that left little room for rest. Yet, in the hidden corners of his mind, another task quietly took root.He had begun a secret investigation of his own—one that sought to uncover the true definition of “sin” and “crime”.More and more, he found himself frequenting the halls of the Religious Division and Judicial Division. The clergy had grown accustomed to his presence. After all, Leon was an anomaly—a human not only surviving in the heart of the demon capital but thriving, having risen to lead the Medical Division and even become engaged to the crown prince. His existence alone was enough to shi

His words rang out with undeniable authority, each syllable hammering home the truth with an almost regal finality. No one dared speak, not even those eager to condemn.Zalethos leaned back, his expression unreadable for a moment before a knowing glint flickered in his eyes. Rising from his seat with deliberate calm, he adjusted his robes and declared, "In that case, let today’s trial come to an end."Lisa, standing nearby, looked like she wanted to protest, her lips parting to speak. But Zalethos cut her off with a well-timed cough, one hand subtly motioning to Rose for support. "I’m feeling a bit fatigued," he said with a faint smile. "I believe it’s time for me to rest. You may all withdraw."The court took the hint, bowing respectfully before filing out. One by one, the crowd departed, the tension gradually dissipating into a calm hum.Yet amidst the dispersing crowd, Leon’s keen eyes caught a fleeting detail—a shift in the air, a shadow across a single face.Jasper stood frozen i

The voices in the hall surged like relentless waves, crashing one after another against the minds of the still-hesitant judges. Jasper’s gaze deepened, his brow furrowing slightly. It was clear to him—the tide had turned. Almost everyone now stood in favor of Leon’s innocence.Slowly, he stepped forward, preparing to speak and declare Leon free of all charges. But just as the words were about to leave his lips, a cold, measured voice cut through the air."Wait."All eyes turned toward Lisa as she emerged from the crowd. Her steps were calm, steady, and deliberate, her gaze sharp and unyielding as it locked onto Aric and Leon. There was no warmth in her tone—only a chilling objectivity, as if she were dissecting a body on an operating table."Even if ignorance can be forgiven, even if he redeemed himself, and even if his physician’s heart saved Morgana," she said, each word slicing through the hall with surgical precision, "we cannot deny that he did make a serious mistake at the start

Her words crashed into the hall like a hammer, silencing the room in an instant. The once-building hope and warmth were abruptly chilled. A tense, suffocating stillness settled over the grand chamber.Jasper’s brow furrowed slightly. He crossed his arms, clearly torn. He had no desire to deal harsh punishment to Leon, but Selena’s accusation hung in the air, undeniable. His hesitation was evident—his eyes flickered between Leon and Selena, his thoughts visibly conflicted. Then, amid the suffocating silence, a voice rang out—cold, calm, and razor-sharp.“Attacked by her own pet—who else is there to blame?” The words cut through the tension like a knife through the taut fabric. Heads turned instantly toward the source of the voice, every eye-locking on its owner. At the grand hall’s entrance, a figure emerged from the shadows, his every step steady and deliberate. Aric, clad in a perfectly tailored charcoal-gray suit, seemed almost to shimmer under the flickering torchlight. His sharp f
