Lucas' POV

After finishing up some business I had, I returned home and stopped in front of the door, thinking over the fact that I had someone living with me. Not just anyone but Jackie Garner, a girl I had not stopped thinking about for months since we finished high school.

I shook the thoughts of her out of my mind and pushed the door open. As I stepped in, I saw she was sitting on the couch, watching TV. When I closed the door, her head snapped in my direction and she quickly switched off the TV like she had been caught doing something bad and rose to her feet, looking uncomfortable.

I raised an eyebrow as I walked away from the door while taking off my jacket.

"Hi, I'm sorry for using the television. I was bored and wanted to kill time. I tried to call you to ask if it's fine with you and to—"

"Jackie," I called her name in an exhausted tone. She froze and looked at me. "It's fine. You can watch whatever you want anytime you want. Besides, this house is yours too. Make yourse

[|]Jackie's POVI had made sure to not be in the same place as Lucas after the whole incident. Whenever he came downstairs, I would leave the house and stroll through the hallway and come back a while later then stay in the bathroom. I should probably get used to such because I had a feeling that he would be doing what he did more often and I had to prepare my mind for it.A knock on the bathroom door made me jerk slightly before I stared at the wooden door."Jackie, are you in there? The food is here. Come downstairs, let's eat," came his muffled voice behind the door."I'll be right there with you," I replied and stared at my face in the mirror. I exhaled and flushed the toilet to cover up the fact that I was hiding from him then washed my hands and left the bathroom.I walked over to the wooden steps and saw him setting out the foods on the coffee table. I gulped when my eyes went to his strong back that was hugged by the grey shirt he was wearing. Even his strong legs were a deli

[|]Because I was in a new place and was used to waking up early, I was up at five in the morning and ready for the day. The house was still a bit dark even though I could see the sun setting a little bit in the dark blue sky. Most importantly, I was comfy in the big bed with thick blankets over my body. For the first time in a long time, I was extra comfortable.I sat up on the bed and stretched my arms. I rubbed my eyes and stared at the chandelier hanging from the living room ceiling. I immediately thought about Lucas and smiled."Lucas is such a nice guy," I said and smiled wider when an idea crossed my mind. "I need to do something to show my appreciation for letting me stay here. A simple thank you won't do. I know just what to do."I got out of bed and ran into the bathroom where I brushed my teeth and washed my face. When I was through, I went downstairs quietly and paused when I saw Lucas sleeping soundly under my blanket. I tiptoed over to him and held my breath when I saw

[|]By the time I was done, it was seven in the night and I was exhausted and hungry. I had barely rested since I started cleaning the whole house which made me wonder what type of people he lived with and how he lived through so much dirt. Clark was not home when I finished and he was not picking his calls. I had to wait for him since he had not left my pay for the day anywhere in the house.I was getting bothered because it was getting late and I did not know how safe or unsafe it was around here, especially when taxis barely drove around the neighborhood. As if on cue, the front door opened and I rose from the couch I had been sitting on. I heard footsteps and sighed in relief when I saw Clark."Oh, my God. I am so sorry that you're still here. Something important came up and I had to rush out," Clark said, walking up to me. "Are you done?""Yes."Clark ran his fingers through his hair and sighed."Alright. Here's your pay," he said, bringing out his wallet. He opened it and I sa

[|]Since I was not going to work on Tuesdays, I was at home, watching TV while Lucas sat on the other couch, using his laptop and headphone. He had multiple documents around him which made me wonder whether he still had school work or something else. We had barely said a word to each other last night after the elevator incident. We only told each other good morning today and that was it. Lucas seemed distant and cold to me which I accepted because I didn't want to get too close to him while I lived here. My instincts told me not to. My phone started to ring beside me and I paused what I was watching to pick the phone up. I rolled my eyes when I saw it was a call from Andrea, my former roommate. I hesitantly accepted the call and pressed my phone to my ear."Hello," I said drily."Hi! How are you, Jackie?""I'm good and you?""Same, same. So, where are you staying now?""Not too far from school. What about you?""I'm at the medical dorm. We still have some unfinished stuff."I was w

[|]When I got back, I felt more comfortable because I was alone so I raced to the kitchen and grabbed a bag of chips and Coke. I dropped my snacks in the living room and changed into an oversized cartoon print shirt and loose pants. I sat down on the couch facing the TV and picked up my snacks with a smile on my face.As I turned on the television, the front door opened, scaring me. Lucas walked in, taking off his jacket. I glanced at the door, expecting Andrea to walk in but when I saw no one, I looked at him as he approached me."What are you doing here?" I asked as he say down beside me on the couch."This is my house. I live here," he retorted and I rolled my eyes."I'm serious, Lucas. What are you doing here? Weren't you supposed to be on a date with Andrea?"Lucas grabbed the bag of chips from my hand and tore it open. He popped some of the chips into his mouth and pointed at the Coke. I hugged the bottle to my chest, giving him signs that he wasn't going to get it."Answer me.

[|]Lucas' POVI fucking hated what I was doing and how I was suddenly behaving because of this girl. It was surprising how Jackie was making me do things I barely even did for anyone. First, I let her stay in my house. Secondly, I felt worried for a girl that wasn't my sister. I remembered how I got home and saw she wasn't back yet. I had called her phone and she didn't answer. At first, I let it go but when worry became so deep, I decided to step outside the building to see if I could see her. When I had seen Jackie, I felt relieved but another emotion took over when I saw that guy standing so close to her especially when I saw what she was wearing. The emotions in my chest were a burning feeling and followed by an uneasiness. Most of all, I didn't like him. Something about him made me unsettled but I didn't voice it out because Jackie needed the job.Another thing that left me confused was how I was sitting with a gorgeous girl and thinking if Jackie had arrived home safely or if

[|]Jackie's POVI stepped into Clark's house and I saw a few untidy things laying around. I cleaned this house on Monday and it's a mess on Wednesday? I was almost about to go back before my taxi went too far but I signed up for this. With a deep sigh, I dropped my bag on the floor and propped my hands on my hips, taking in the scattered living room. I heard noises coming from upstairs and I became alert as Clark had said he was coming home from the gym when I arrived. I looked around for anything like a weapon which I did not find. Soon after, a tall guy appeared at the top of the stairs. He saw me and his eyes became wide. I stepped back when he rushed down the steps and stopped a few feet away."Who are you?"I analyzed him slowly. He was blonde with a lean muscular build with tattoos running down his arms and around his neck. His brown eyes were narrowed suspiciously at me and a single eyebrow raised."I'm the cleaner," I said and he relaxed his body."Oh... Clark didn't tell me

[|]My lunch with Jared had gone smoothly. Jared was a funny person as he shared his childhood stories with me. During our lunch, he had not done or said anything that hinted that he wanted me or liked me in that manner. I had been expecting he would try to woo me or do something after that night, especially seeing me in such a state. It was almost as if that night never happened and I was glad because I didn't want things to be awkward between the both of us.Since he was living in the apartment across ours, Jared and I walked home together, talking more about high school. As we reached the apartment building, Jared went his way and I stayed back when my phone rang. I took it out of my bag and saw it was a call from Andrea, making me clench my fist. I was not in the mood to speak to her about anything.I accepted the call and placed the phone against my ear. I stayed silent and waited for her to speak only to hear another voice."...where do you want to go?" It was Lucas' voice and I

[|] The next day, we were back to the hotel we had been in before Maddy captured me. When I woke up, I felt an odd feeling at the thought of Maddy being dead. Even though she ended up betraying me, she had been part of my life and it made me a little sad that she had to end the way she did. I pushed away the feeling and sat up on the bed. I looked at the other side of the bed and smiled at a sleeping Lucas. He was facing the other way, bare-chested. I leaned forward and ran my hand over his smooth chest. He moved his body a little but didn't wake up. I rested my chin on my palm and stared at him. His jawline was covered with very light beards and I pictured him with a full beard. He would look handsome with it and more mature as I imagined him with a trimmed beard. It made me smile as I focused on his hair which was a bit longer. I began to imagine our life together with a child running around the house. I smiled wider at the imagination. "All I want is happiness from here on ou

[|]"Hey."I flinched at the sound of Lucas' voice. I turned away from the floor-length window in the hallway of the hospital and faced him. He was looking stressed out with bags under his eyes, scattered hair, and pale skin. I wouldn't be surprised if I was matching his look."How are you?" I asked, walking up to him. I opened my arms for a hug and he came into it and I wrapped my arms around him. He lowered his height and rested his head on my shoulder."I'm so tired and I'm sure you are too," he said and hugged me back."I'm better now that I know Axel is fine," I said and pulled away from him.Axel had gone into surgery the moment we arrived at the hospital and it's been hours since we arrived. Barry had not left the door of the operating room. I could see how much they loved Axel. "You need to sleep. You are stressed from everything," Lucas said and cupped my face."I'm kinda hungry though," I said with a smile. "I need a nap but I won't do all these until I'm sure that Axel is

I gulped and wondered why I couldn't feel anything, I was numb. I rolled away from Maddy and looked down at my stomach. There was blood on my shirt but I couldn't feel any wound. It was when I looked at Maddy, that I realized the blood belonged to her and not me. She had a bullet hole in her chest while the gun was slack in her hands. Her eyes were wide as her chest moved up and down quickly. I rose to my feet, holding my stomach out of fear and protecting the baby in me. "Jackie?!" I looked up at the sound of a new voice. I saw Lucas staring at me with fear in his eyes. He ran up to me and cupped my cheeks"Jackie, you're shot," he said. I snapped out of my shocked state and shook my head. "No... [|]Lucas' POVI could not let Jackie die. I would rather die than let the woman who has suffered enough go through death. I just couldn't watch her take that bullet. So, when I saw Maddy pull out her gun, I knew things would not end well. I had thought she would not pull the trigger but I was wrong when I saw her finger push the trigger. Knowing how fast a bullet was, I blocked Jackie to take the bullet with my eyes shut the moment she fired the gun.But when three seconds went by and I did not feel the burning and body-numbing feeling of the bullet, I opened my eyes and felt like my soul left my body when I saw the last person I was expecting in front of me."Axel?!" She was so cruel. The worst feeling I felt was helplessness. I couldn't do anything to stop everything as I watched them kiss. I felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest and tossed into a larva. I felt like I could not breathe. It was at that moment I knew that people could die from heartbreak. I just couldn't withstand the sight and thought of losing Lucas to her."Finally," Maddy said and I raised my head.I sniffed and glared at her when she looked at me, smiling wide with the contract pressed against her chest. She giggled and walked up to me."Won't you congratulate me?" She asked, craning her head to the side.I formed some saliva in my mouth and spat on her face. She gasped and closed her eyes at the impact. I smiled at the sight of my spit on her face then chuckled."I already got what I want

I could tell from the stained glass window behind the cross that
