Chapter 30

CAELUM

The field dissolves back to the front doors of the Manor, the gloomy sky looming above us. I pushed open the door and quickly headed to the kitchen, my thoughts still in disarray as I snatched a bottle of water from the fridge.

“Oh! You’re here…I am about to finish.” Rubin stated as she stirred the pan and tossed the egg on a plate. I settled down on a seat and observed her as she makes her way to where I am sitting.

“Here!” I was surprised when she gave me a cloud shaped sunny side up.

“I taught her how to do that. I’m glad she easily caught up with everything. ” Aeon mused, nodding at his student who is smiling wide.

“Great to know you are being fond of her.” I stated at him before poking the egg with my fork, a little bit dubious. After deciding that the egg is not harmless, I gave it a little bite and take some toast from the centre of the table, spreading raspberry jam on it.

“Food here on earth is just brilliant! I haven’t tried all of these and I intend to

Chapter 31 RUBIN“What is that?” Aeon asked me as soon as I finished pinning the paper on the cold cupboard – I mean, fridge. “Just some important – stuff.” I shrugged my shoulder and wearily observed him as he squinted at the paper before taking it off, “Hey!” I tried to snatch it away from his hands but he was way too tall. He began reading, “One, a cupid has a mission to be done here on earth hence the gods should allow her to complete it. Oh, there’s no problem about that. I allow you to proceed,” he smirks before reading the next one. “Two, A cupid has a wish to be one with the Gaeans and experience everything the earth has to offer consequently, the cupid should be allowed to spend some time outside. Oho! That will be a little bit of a challenge considering that I have to observe you at certain times but it can be plausible – I’ll see to this if we could,” He huff, checking the paper again, “Three, a cupid has a desire to feel precious and loved, therefore she asked for leis

Chapter 32RUBIN“It’s far too late – the factory closes at 6 pm and they are currently in a meeting about the product. Let’s go down and check the stations while they are gone.” I raised a brow and tried to see pass the darkness only to sigh, following him out of the room. I was quickly intoxicated by the scent of something so fragrant, wafting in my nose, as though it was the very air we are breathing in. “What is a factory and what products are you talking about? And what’s that smell? It’s intoxicating.” “Oh, I’m sorry, it definitely slipped my mind that you are ignorant of this mundane terms. Well, a factory is a place where certain products are produced, developed or processed. In this case, this factory is purely dedicated to making chocolates and other sweets – what you are smelling is cocoa, the main ingredient for making chocolates.”My mouth widened as Caelum led us inside a room where big whirring things circulates the dark fluid from the transparent glass. The process

You don’t have to say it for me.” I nodded my head once again, my head pounding as I felt another rush of annoyance corrupting my mood – I shouldn’t have insisted for her to read those books. “Where are we going anyways? We’ve been walking for the past hour and I am tired.”“ Do you think I’m not?” I sarcastically said, glaring up at the cobblestones that leads out of town. I have decided that we should trek a little way out of town for I wanted to show her the country side before heading at the farm outside the town. It seems that it was a terrible idea considering how sweaty we ended up with as the sun glared down at us.“That’s a scarecrow, am I correct?” I nodded, noticing the river that runs out of town by the town entrance, a few kilometres from where we are. The great oak tree looms over us and I smiled, it seems that we are a little bit closer than I tho

Chapter 34CAELUM I squinted my eyes and noticed Carlos, pulling his trousers up from his waist as he struggled with the basket of grapes, balancing it on his hips, “Mon signore! Grande. Migliore uve – very very supple!” He said between huff and puff, stumbling as he beckon us down at the bench, facing the stomping place. Rubin sat and her eyes widened when Carlos put the basket of grapes down at her feet, “This are the best harvest so far, try it, rufina!” Carlos held out a piece in front of her face and Rubin takes it, popping the grape in her mouth. “Hmm,” She takes another piece and Carlos claps his hand, “This is like our grapes back in Eros. How did—”“Eros? Where is that place, signore?” Carlos looks at me, his sweaty face full of curiousity. Shaking my head, I asked for him to direct us to the stomping place. The ladies are already there, cheering while Zita held out some clothes for us to wear. I threw the shirt and shorts at an unsuspecting Rubin who sneered as it hit her

Chapter 35CAELUMRubin looks up at me through her eyelashes and inquired, “What’s wrong? What’s with the face?” I shrugged, not answering her as I stepped out of the crushed grapes, my body trembling a bit. As the hours pass by, I noticed how each moment seems to add on what I am feeling – like Rubin was trying to prove som I have long forgotten but, have I really forgotten? I scratched the back of my head as I swiftly walked away from Rubin, finding the need to tell Aeon about all this – about what I feel and about my visions. Aeon will know what we should do.I wash my feet, avoiding Carlos who bolted up from where he sits, asking me about my wine preference and what he should prepare for lunch. I headed up the hill, confused of what I am feeling. I should hurry us back to the manor to tell Aeon about all this. The entrance to the cellar underground was lit, so I sneak down, pulling my hair, trying to find some comfort as I calm my nerves down. I needed some space. I tried sear

Chapter 36 RUBINI was shocked to see the both of them dissolved from the room.I wonder where they have disappeared to. Settling on one of the sofa, I reminisced about the things that happened during the day – was it all a dream? I held the sides of my face, feeling the warmth from them. It felt incredible. My heart thudded inside my chest like I have ran a thousand miles making it seem as though I was floating, like I weight nothing, like I have became a vapor, one with the clouds…Still smiling, I didn’t notice it that it has gotten dark outside, the fireplace dim as all of the wood was now consumed by the fire. I stood from the sofa and stretched my back, only to jump to the side as I noticed someone leaning down on me. I shrieked out loud, collapsing back at the sofa, “Aeon! What did you do that for?” I scrambled up from the sofa and crossed my arm over my chest. “I saw you – smiling like you won something,” he squinted his eyes, waving a finger in front of my face in a suspic

Chapter 37RUBIN“You, go take this at the table while I finish the sausages,” Aeon passed me the eggs and I followed his orders, hoping that he’ll be able to help me retrieve my bow because Caelum hasn’t gone down for breakfast yet. I don’t even know if he will, and if he would ever be willing to be with me. Tipping the rest of the eggs on a plate, Aeon walks towards the table and sits across me, “Make sure not to consume it all, Caelum will go down shortly.”“How’d you know? He has not answered me when I asked awhile ago – I am betting on it that he’s still fast asleep.”“My winds don’t fail me like people do, cupid.” As soon as he says these words, I am amazed to see Caelum walking inside the kitchen, snatching a couple of sausages on his wake before walking out, quickly as though he was avoiding me. I bolted out of my seat, not giving him a chance to escape even if my hands are sweaty, trying to get a hold of myself. “Caelum,” I called out and I smiled in relief, thanking the he

Chapter 38RUBINThe floor lurched making my eyes widen.Newman looks at me as though he would laugh but I’m glad when he cleared his throat and stared at the other direction with no emotions in his face. The doors open with a ‘ ping’ again and I was startled as a couple more Gaeans entered. Soon enough, the whole room is full of them, making me remember the time when I first arrived here on earth which is roughly a month ago. Which means – I only have 70 days left! When our number turned dull yellow, Newman tugged me out of the cramped room. I stood for a while, trying to steady myself so as to avoid from falling face first on the floor for I felt dizzy. Newman held my upper arm and said in a stern voice, “Did you get dizzy? Do you have claustrophobia?” he whispered in a concerned voice as he steadied me with both hands now. I shake my head and straightened up. “What’s claustrophobia?” I asked him and he rolled his eyes. I breathe in and out, “It was my first time to ride that thin

Chapter 99CAELUMRubin’s eyes were open but they are not seeing – it remains open, unblinking. Her face is contorted with sadness but her lips are slightly pulled in the sides as though she have tried to smile, knowing that it is futile. My vision became blurry all of a sudden before the sound of a wounded animal filled my ears, making it almost impossible for me to believe that the sound came from me. My heart felt so heavy as I cried over her, my hands caressing her face, “No, no, no!”Her body started shimmering until she started to fade away.“Rubin? Rubin, please, stay!” I hold unto her wrist, trying to stop her from fading away but I couldn’t. “No, please. Please!”Half of her body has already faded with the wind and as I blink, she was gone. “No! Rubin, no…no, please. Rubin!” I got to my feet and impatiently searched the field, calling out her name. Maybe she’s just hiding.“Rubin!” My throat is sore as I sobbed, crying my heart out. The sudden change of dawn to morning pr

Chapter 98CAELUMThe hike down the hill leading to the river is quite short and I easily reached the edge where I lay the basket on a rock. I decided to wander to the other side, spying on Rubin as she gathered the ivies. I sneaked at her, interrupting her as I said, “I think that’s more than enough for a bouquet.” Rubin frowns, turning so that she can glare at me, her wild ginger hair flying about as the wind blew. “Well, we have to make use of the flowers one way or another, don’t we? I am only going to be married once so, don’t spoil my fun, Caelum!”I let out a chuckle, walking back to the other side of the river. I waited for her by the riverbank with my feet growing colder as I skimmed the soft pebbles that lined the edges of the river. I took the rose basket, dipping my toes as soon as I see Rubin walking down the hill that leads to the river, golden veil now covering her face from me. She slowly waded through the water, giggling for she has stumbled a couple of times and by

Rubin tightened her hands on mine as I plunge a hand in the thick tangle of vines, smiling as the two of us was swallowed inside. I’m glad that Rubin can still access the dome with me even if she is a human now. I guess, she isn’t entirely human. She shivered next to me and I sigh, sitting down on one of the carousels and watching her as she puts her hand on top of it. “I’ll never light it up again,” she whispered while looking down at her hands as though she was talking to them and not me. “I can try,” I suggested, giving her a sad smile as I touched the carousel she previously held. It lit up and so did the rest of the dome. Some of the fireflies from outside has managed to enter the dome and I smiled, facing her before putting one of her hand on my waist as I held the other with my own. I gave her a little sway and her eyes widen while I twirled her around to a

Chapter 96CAELUMI licked my lips and stood next to her, wrapping my arms around her waist, pulling her close so that I can rest my head on her shoulders. “Hey, stop being a grumpy pants and relax. Nothing bad is going to happen. You are tired is all which is why I want you to sleep. Note that we can still do a lot more with those twelve hours left.”She abruptly turns at me, eyes wide and filled with fear, glistening because of her recently shredded tears. She pushed my hands away, crossing her hands over her chest which made them appear bigger than they should. “But if I did sleep, I’ll reduce my time with you – is that what you want? Less time to spend with me? Do you really hate me that much to make me sleep for the rest of my limited time?”“No, you are misunderstanding it all, Rubin. I don’t hate you – in fact, I love you so much that it hurts me when I see you suffering like this. I never wanted to hurt you in any way possible and would never wish for you to go.” I forceful

Chapter 95CAELUM My heart has never beat like this way before – so erratic and alive. I cannot fathom how such a small organ can beat so strong inside my chest without damaging my ribcage; thundering as though it were a hundred hooves barreling against my chest. It is a mystery; a wonderful one, to be able to commit into memory every sound she makes, every touch she delivers. It’s a wonder how I can feel every dip of her tongue, every caress of her fingers that are like feathers on my skin; I am absorbed by the very sigh that she lets out and her whimper, Oh! They sound so soft against my ear that it melts me. How can she sound so pretty like this? When every moan appears that she was begging for her life and every thrust felt like it was her last move. I have wondered for years how humans can be satisfied of this kind of loving when I always find myself disappointed. I thought they end up miserable for they only know one kind, yet I am wrong. Every time I drew closer, I felt lik

Chapter 94RUBINThe suspense I can handle; the sound that accompanies the moving pictures is bearable but when the lady pushed the little boy – I do one thing I am very good at, I screamed!“Will you stop it? Ugh – I shouldn’t have suggested movies in the first place if I have known.” Caelum avoided the slap I am directing on his face as he held my hands on his lap. “Caelum Bloody Rouen – Aaaah!”“Please! Stop screaming and bloody watch it quietly. La llorona isn’t going to bolt out and-““Aaah!”“Oh, Zeus! Mighty powerful god, help me. My eardrums isn’t going to survive if you kept tothis –““Turn it off, now. Turn it off, Caelum – I can’t – turn it off, NOW!” I reached out my hand and snatched the remote control from his, gritting my teeth as I directed the remote at the television. My eyes when the volume goes up and Caelum doubled over in laughter. I can’t help but scream as the movie goes on and I cannot even turn it off.Caelum finally stopped and I chucked the control at him

I shivered, trying to tap my foot on the ground but it’s like a few feet deeper. “Breathe, okay? I am here. I won’t leave you.” Still afraid of answering him, I reached out for his neck and latched on, making him laugh. Caelum waves his hand and I observed him as he summons a driftwood from the depth of the cove. “Here, lean unto it. It will help you float.” “But I don’t want to let you go.” “No. You won’t let me go, you are just going to hold unto this wood and I will guide you.” I stared at Caelum’s eyes, whispering, “Caelum, I don’t want to let go.” His face fell as he realize the weight and true meaning of my words. He let me float next to him, his arm securely holding me in place so that I won’t sink, “Shh, shh.”“Can we stay there and not here? I don’t like water that much.” Caelum nodded in understanding and he guided me to the shallow part of the la

Chapter 92RUBINAutahvuwns Manor welcomed us with its red tiled roofs and ever glistening fountain. Caelum marched up to the front door with me following close behind, expecting that as the door opens, Aeon and Newman will be waiting for us by the threshold. My heart felt like it was being squeezed as we entered the empty manor, our footsteps echoing to what used to be a familiar haven for me, now a place of memories.“I know you felt disappointed not seeing them here but I do not know how I will deal with your divided attention. I want this remaining hours to be spent between the two of us. Call me selfish, alright, but I won’t have it in any other way.” Caelum shrugs, walking out of the parlour, heading inside the kitchen which is next to it. He is sleeping soundly, his mouth slightly opened. I smiled wistfully - I don’t want for him to wake up, yet. I tucked my hair beneath my ear and leaned down to kiss his forehead, pecking his lips and pulling away abruptly, for I do not want to be tempted of the idea of snogging him quite blatantly without his consent. Caelum looks so serene when he is like this – asleep on my lap, with no worries about what is going to happen; no worries about my limited time here with him. I huffed. How am I going to explain all of these to him?The question that popped inside my head appears to have alerted him as he shifted on my lap, his eyelids twitching before he finally opens his eyes. I braced myself for his hate and anger, for his wrath to dawn, instead, I am met with the warmest embrace I have yet to receive from him. “Rubin!” H
