In the lobby of the office building.

“What happened?” Lewis sat down beside Sierra and held her leg to examine her swollen ankle.

Sierra snorted in anger and turned her head away from him.

At this moment, a security guard came over and handed something to Lewis, saying, "Mr. Alvarez, this is the surveillance footage."

Lewis looked at the screen, and his expression immediately darkened. He had been to where Josephine worked before, so he naturally knew who Avery was as well.

He threw the tablet onto the table and said to Sierra, "I'll take you to the hospital."

Sierra felt even more enraged when he didn’t clarify his stance. "I'm not going! Let my leg be broken so I don't have to hear people call me a mistress every time I step out."

Lewis furrowed his brows and said, "Don't make a fuss. Let's go to the hospital."

"I'm not going!"

Without even bothering to negotiate with Sierra, Lewis picked her up and carried her outside.

Josephine sat behind Avery as the heavy rain washed over her cheeks. She carefully reached out and put her arms around Avery’s waist.

Although the rain was cold, Avery’s back was warm. She wanted to thank her, but she couldn't speak.

For the past 23 years, apart from Grandpa Alan and Lewis, Avery was the first person to stand up for her.

Avery was startled. When she looked down at the arms around her waist, she sighed silently. The rain was freezing, but Avery’s back was warm because Josephine was crying.

Using this heavy rain as a disguise, Josephine finally cried her heart out. Instead of going back to the coffee shop, Avery drove Josephine back to where she lived—Waterfront.

Waterfront was the name of a villa, the house where Josephine and Lewis lived.

When they arrived, Avery got off the motorcycle, took off Josephine's helmet, and smoothed her wet hair.

"Hurry up and head inside to change your clothes so that you don’t catch a cold. If you get sick, that douchebag won't care for you."

Josephine nodded and gestured for her to wait.

Then, she quickly ran inside and came back out with an umbrella in her hand.

She handed it to Avery.

Avery smiled and took the umbrella. "Okay, I'll take it. Now hurry up and go inside."

But Josephine didn't move. It seemed like she wanted to watch her leave.

"Alright, alright," Avery said. She opened the umbrella and held it over her shoulder, then got on her motorcycle and drove away coolly.

“I’m leaving!” Her voice sounded in the rain.

Josephine watched as Avery rode into the distance, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. If Lewis were there, he would have noticed that her smile was different from before. It was a genuine one.

Josephine let out a sneeze.

She went back to her house and took a hot shower. She then took cold medicine but still felt dizzy. She measured her temperature, and it was 103 degrees Fahrenheit. She had a fever, so she took fever medicine and fell asleep in bed.

When Josephine woke up, she found someone sitting next to her bed, but the room was too dark, so she thought she was hallucinating.

She rubbed her eyes and got up to turn on the lights.

It turned out to be Lewis. He was sitting there with his legs crossed, and he was wearing a black shirt with an open collar. His sleeves were rolled up, revealing his muscular forearms. He also wore a simple and subtle luxury watch on his wrist that highlighted his position in life.

He averted his cold gaze at Josephine. The expression on his face was hardly discernible. "You slept well, didn’t you?"

Josephine knelt on the bed and gestured with her hand, "Sorry, I overslept. Have you eaten?"

Lewis didn't answer her question but said, "Don't go to work at that place anymore."

The woman was slightly surprised, and she hastily expressed her concern, "Why?"

"You’ll be badly influenced there. You’re not allowed to work there anymore. I’ll find you a new job."

Josephine had always been obedient, and she would agree to whatever he said, but this time, she didn't.

"I really like that place. I want to continue working there," she signed in response.

"I said you can't go!" His tone suddenly turned frigid, and even his gaze seemed to be carrying a blade.

Josephine bit her lip and glared straight at him. It was the first time she had the courage to look at him like this.

"Is it because of what happened at your office?" she asked.

"You still have the nerve to mention the incident at the office? Who allowed you to bring Avery there?"

Josephine lowered her eyes and didn't argue.

Instead, she continued stubbornly in sign language, "I want to go to work."

"Do you dare to try?"

Josephine stopped moving, and Lewis also stood up. He then turned and walked out of the bedroom.

When he got to the door, he turned around and said, "Don't let me see you with Avery ever again."

After finishing his sentence, he walked away without looking back.

Josephine felt very dizzy. When she touched her forehead, it still felt very hot, and even her breath was warm.

She shook her head, quickly got out of bed, and chased after Lewis barefoot.

At the stairwell, she grabbed the hem of Lewis’ shirt.

The man stopped and turned to look at her. "What do you want now?"
