Benji’s POV

I scoff at the idea of getting away… “Ciara Bear, I know where you are going with this, and I don’t need a vacation right now. I have way too much on my plate for that!”

“What about for a medical mystery?” Alpha King Mars holds out a thick blue folder to me, his face scrunched with concern and worry. I remember what Hunter had said earlier that he hadn’t seen Alpha King Mars this worried since Ciara was taken by the Dark Alpha. I shiver at the memory before returning to reality.

“What is this?” I say, taking the folder and flip to the first page. I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose before reading the first page. My eyes widen as I scan over the documents. My hand moving over each page, quickening my pace as I read. “What? Wait! HUH? But How?” I am not particularly asking anyone in the room these question words but trying to rack my brain to what I am reading. I look up at Alpha King Mars in complete confusion. “What is all this?”

He leans back in his chair, “I had a call earlier today with a man named ‘Doctor Lancon’. He’s the chief doctor over in the Northeastern territories of the North. Alpha King Brandt asked me to talk to him as a favor.”

“I remember The North’s Alpha King. Alpha King Brandt. He is Ciara and Freya’s older brother, right?” I say as I look at Ciara who nods.

“Doctor Lancon requested help from the Sherlock of Medicine. Werewolves are falling ill from some sort of disease or virus. According to him, they are turning into feral creatures and attacking pack members at random before dying. It’s getting worse by the day. Those are the test results from some of the patients who have died.”

I rub my forehead in frustration, confusion, and horror. This isn’t just some simple medical issue like a common cold. This is a complete cluster of medical unsolved anomalies. “This doesn’t make any sense, are you sure this is real? I mean look at these results?! Every test has resulted in a negative result! I would have ran the same tests. How can so many wolves have this many different symptoms? I don’t know if I can help this pack.”

“Packs…” Beta Hunter speaks up.

“What?” I look at him with confusion.

“More than one pack is dealing with the illness. The North is divided into territories; each territory has an Alpha who governs that section. Then the territories are divided into werewolf packs and managed by Alpha Commanders. The Alpha King rules over the whole North. Kind of like a…”

“Pyramid… You are calling the North a Pyramid scheme!” I can’t help but be snarky. “So, Packs… With an “s” are being attacked?”

Alpha King Mars continues to explain. “As of right now, only one territory has fallen ill, but that doesn’t mean it won’t spread to the other territories. These wolves need help.”

“I know what is happening I just read through that mess.” I lightly toss the folder back onto the desk. “Again. I don’t think I can help. We are talking about multiple werewolves. I can’t be at all the packs at once. It’s not feasible. Plus, what about the trials? Mars, you and I have worked tirelessly to get to this point in the trials.  We can’t stop now! And my patients need me. I have never traveled out of the States and who knows when I will be back.”

Ciara squeezes my hands. “Benji, you are my best friend, so I am going to be blunt. You are 26 years old, and you are going to burn yourself out if you keep going like this. Dr. Nancy can handle the patients. You know this. She is the Chief of Surgery at our hospital after all and you have a complete army of nurses and researchers working on the trials. You don’t have to be present for the trial results to be sent to you for review. All we want is for you to consider reviewing the North's research.”

I know Ciara is right, but I am not sure why I am so reluctant to take this on. Could it be fear of being away from a familiar place? I take a few deep breaths and reach for the folder one more time. The cogs of my mind begin to turn as I re-read the tests results, doctor notes, autopsies, and data provided. With each page I turn, I realize that this requires a team.

“I would like some time to think about it, I will also need to talk to my team.” I know I am stalling, but fear was wrapping itself around my heart and I just wanted to get out of this office so I could think clearly.

Alpha King Mars nods in agreement. “If you decide to go, send me your team list and I will compensate them extra for time away from their families. I also think you should bring some warriors with you for protection.”

“Alpha, Artemis would be a good fit.” Beta Hunter says to all of us. “As Head Warrior, she can take this opportunity to learn new warrior skills to bring back to the pack.” Artemis is Hunter's twin sister and took over Gregory's position after his passing. She has become one of my dearest friends and I wouldn't have asked for a better person to take up the mantel of Head Warrior.

Just as we were finalizing the meeting, a little girl with blonde hair and smokey gray eyes burst into the office, running up to Alpha King Mars. Her eyes wide with excitement. “Daddy! Daddy! Come see! They exploded the whole kitchen!”

“Who exploded the kitchen, Isabella?” Ciara asked her daughter as she gave me the side eye. I turn my head away, trying not to laugh as I avoid her glare. Dammit. Keep it together…

“Mommy! Axel and Archer! They went boom!” She jumps up and down. “Come on Daddy! I show you!” She tugs at his hand. She was definitely a daddy’s little girl.

Ciara and Mars’ eyes cloud over as someone is mind-linking them. I look at Ciara Bear with confusion when she starts laughing hysterically to herself.

“Benji Dear, do you know anything about a small accident involving soda in the kitchen?” She bites her bottom lip, and I begin to smirk. Well, that didn’t take long. I try not to laugh, because I can see Mars is seething and smoke is escaping from his ears.

“Accident! The Chef called it a sugar explosion of candy parts and soda! It’s all over the walls!” Mars spats. “Dinner is ruined and she’s having to order pizza instead. Someone find those boys now! They have a mess to clean up!”

That’s it. I lost it laughing and knew I was in deep trouble along with a pair of mischievous set of twin boys…. Again…

Before I leave the royal packhouse, I am given a scolding from the chef who reminded me that science experiments do not belong in her kitchen! After I promised to never give the boys mentos again, she handed me a large cheese pizza to take home with me. “Science belongs outside or in a lab. If you plan on continuing on doing these wild experiments with the kids, please do it away from my kitchen!”

“Auntie Bee!” Isabella runs up to me with her mother in toe, holding out my car keys. “Uncle Hunter said he got a warrior to bring your beetle to the packhouse. Did you see the kitchen!” She covers her mouth with her little hands and giggles devilishly. “I would NEVER do something like that!”

Oh, sweet girl. Just you wait. I will be teaching you how to be even more mischievous as you get older. But I keep my thoughts to myself and give her a hug before shooing her back into the building.

“Are you sure you won’t stay for dinner?” Ciara Bear says as she hugs me.

I look away to avoid seeing the sadness in her eyes. “Sorry I really need to get back to the hospital. Can I take a rain check?”

She nods and squeezes me one more time before walking back in the palace packhouse. I watch as she leaves and sigh. Closing my eyes, I whisper a silent ‘I’m sorry’ to her before making my way to my car. Pulling out my phone, I decided going home to an empty lonely house was something far from my emotions could handle right now. “Hey, you free tonight? I have pizza. I could pick up some beer?”

Benji’s POVI knock on apartment building door no. 9 and wait for a response. The subtle signs of wear and tear of the paint catches my attention. Red paint is peeling away exposing the previous brown paint underneath. This was my home away from home when I was feeling lonely. I could hear the muffled sounds of someone moving around and I knew he was probably trying to pick up his mess. The door swung open and my favorite, very HUMAN cousin, Bennet, stands there with a grin on his face. “Hey Bee! Come on in. You know the deal, shoes off…”I walked in and did the routine after handing him the pizza and beer. Kissed both his cheeks, removed my shoes, then walked into the living room to plop myself down on his couch. “So, how’s Auntie Wendy doing?” I ask already knowing the answer.Bennet rolls his eyes as he enters the living room with the food, plates and beer. “You know my mother. Conrad’s POV‘Alpha, Doc is here to see you. Are you still up or are you busy with… her?’ Sean’s voice fills my head just as I am about to get out of the shower. I can feel his distain through the way he says “her”. I check my watch and it’s almost eleven in the evening, why is Doc here so late.‘Yeah, I will be down in a few minutes, just got out of the shower.’ Wrapping a towel around my waist, I walk out of the bathroom to see Hazel still laying naked on my bed. The smell of sex lingering in the air. I roll my eyes. She knows the rules, she isn’t allowed to stay after sex.“What are you still doing here?” I say going over to my closet to find some sweatpants and a shirt to change into. For some strange reason, I feel like dressing away from her prying eyes. I shake off the strange feeling. I drop the clothes on to my bed to change but decide to wait for Hazel to leave first.“Aww, come on, baby. I get so lonely at night without you.” She coos at me and for some reason I don’t find

Third Person POVQueen Luna Ciara sat at her desk, going over the contracts for another one of her charity projects when the scent of Christmas trees filled her nose. The door to her office opens, she looks up to see her favorite person… her mate. “Hey, you, what are you doing here?” She grins widely at him.Alpha King Mars walked around her desk and kissed the top of her head. “Just wanted to let you know Benji’s arrangements are complete, and your dickhead of a brother said he will receive them from the airport before sending them to the Northeastern territory.” His lip curled as he spoke. He plopped down on the couch in front of her desk, beckoning her to sit on his lap for a cuddle.Ciara rolled her eyes but couldn’t help but let out a small giggle at her husband. For years, her brother, Alpha King Brandt of the North and her husband, Alpha King Mars of the States, have been completing with each other as who was better at being king. It was a harmless rivalry between the males tha

Benji’s POV“Come on, Bennet! The others are already at the palace packhouse, waiting for us. What is taking so long?” I yelled through the front door of the No 9 apartment. A light drizzle of spring rain greeted us before the sun was up. I pulled up to Bennet’s place at 5:30pm to pick him up for our trip to the North. As usual he was running late. After I made the decision to go to the North, I met with my team and discussed who would be going and who would stay for the trials. Since I had several nurses and medical technicians with families and children, I wanted my staff to decide if they wanted to go or not. Once the team was set in place, we worked out travel arrangements. We also decided to fly public transportation instead of the Blue Eclipse private plane. Bennet grumbled something about leg room and luxury, but I ignored him. Nothing wrong with business class; humans did it all the time.I looked down at my phone and reviewed the list of team members going one more time. Each

Conrad’s POVThis isn’t how I planned on spending my night after my meeting with Doc and Sean. My mind was already on overload with having conflicting feelings towards Hazel and also learning that this “Sherlock of Medicine” has decided to help us. I don’t know why I was so intrigued by this doctor even my wolf perked up a bit when he was mentioned earlier. To think, he didn’t want compensation for his services… What was he? A Saint? Or could it be all a show?I had just gone back to my room to go to bed and barely closed my eyes when Sean stormed through the door, not even bothering to knock.“Conrad! Another warrior is going ape shit! He attacked his mate then ran into the woods on the west side of the packgrounds, we gotta find him before he attacks anyone else!”“Fuck!” Not bothering to change since I was only in my boxers, I ran out of my suite and down the stairs with Sean close behind. A small group of warriors waited outside for us, and I was glad for the backup because who kn

Benji’s POVI stood in front of the full-length mirror, wearing the deep purple velvet floor length gown with fitted sleeves that my mother and I purchased. It fits my small frame in all the right places. The low V of the neckline accentuated my small perky breasts. I am not a curvy woman, but this dress made me look slender and fit, even my ass looked good. Hands slide up my bare back with the feel of the zipper being tugged together from the dress. The tingles shoot up my spine making my body involuntary shiver with arousal.“You look stunning.” His arms wrap around my waist, and he rested his head on my shoulder as we looked at ourselves in the mirror. Being in Gregory’s arms was heaven for me. I memorize his handsome self. He is wearing what has been dubbed the “Penguin suit” by Alpha Mars: a three-piece black and white tuxedo. “Dance with me.” He kisses my earlobe.I giggled as he grabs my fingers and spins me around to face him. Benji’s POVMy legs felt a little wabbly walking down the terminal as I exited the plane. It had been a long flight, and I was needing to get my bearings from finally being on solid ground again. The time difference wasn’t helping either. Every part of me ached from sitting for so long and I knew the only thing that could cure this was a good strong cup of coffee. My team and I gathered together and started walking to the luggage pickup area, each grumbling softly to our own selves. We were all equally tired and needed a good rest.We had arrived in the North in the beginning of morning, and outside the airport vast windows the sun slowly rose, uncovering the darkness blanketed everything it had once touched. There was something old world about the North; an untouched space in a historical timeline from modern development greeted us.“I am freezing already, and we haven’t even made it outside yet! Bee! I need a wolfy cuddle!” Bennet pushed down the long sleeves of his sweater over his

Benji’s POVWe drove away from the airport in the two black SUVs to our destination in the Northeastern Territory. It didn’t take long to feel like we had stepped out of reality and into the fantastic pages of a fantasy novel. Large multi-colored trees towered over the winding roads like guarded sentinels to the beauty of the looming mountains in the distance. The giants of rock and earth with their jagged peaks rose into the mystic clouds to see the heaven like stairway to the gods.I couldn’t catch my breath from the multitude of hues before me. Everywhere I looked it was something new to see. A paint and canvas of field of wildflowers, rows and rows of farmlands, groups of cabins all scattered around the vast lands. Was the North frozen in time by some magical spell preserving its beauty?“Twenty more minutes and we will be at the capital packhouse…” Our driver said breaking the silence of the vehicle. But I couldn’t comprehend anything but what my eyes were seeing. Conrad’s POV “Thank you for saving my pups.” I said. Somewhere between leaving Falon’s room and entering Bee’s room, I decided I needed to be honest with her about my pups. I wasn’t exactly hiding my children, but I wasn’t open about them either. Apart of me was scared she didn’t want kids because her career was so time consuming. I was fully aware of all her projects back in the states like her wolfsbane vaccination trials, her numerous medical journals she published and so much more. I even was aware before she came to the North, she was the head surgeon of her hospital. “Y… Your pups?” Her eyes widen at my words. I could feel her heart beating wildly. She was unnecessarily worried about what I was going to say and do.I pulled up one of the plastic chairs up to the side of her bed and sat down. Taking her hand in mine, Titus encouraged me to tell our tale to our mate. It was difficult to keep the small quiver from showing up in my voice, because I was scared. I was scared to tell

The bushes and shrubbery covered me from view, but still gave me the perfect exit into the forest in case things go wrong. The rogues snarled and twitched menacingly at the stupid woman as she branded her tree branch at them. I listened as she tried to persuade them to leave. What a fucking joke…. They weren’t in their right minds to even hear her. All they saw was MEAT… Like hungry zombies, their thirst for blood was unquenchable. I made sure of that.Originally my plan was to have the rogues attack the doctor and her team while they were leaving for the evening, but when I saw her and the kids out in the field, I had to take advantage of the opportunity and called… her. I needed the doctor out of the way if I wanted to exact my revenge on the stupid fucking alpha. The child was just a bonus… By killing the child, I fulfilled half of her request and also

Bennet’s POV“Come on… I don’t have all day!” I stomped over to the warriors gathering up the dead bodies. The pungent smell of rotten eggs made me wrinkle my nose in disgust. The putrid smell of rogues was always a nasty scent, but these men had the stench of infection as well. “Well, Hurry up!!” I gave them each a death glare to dare say anything to me right now.I was fuming mad at Bee and whoever got in my war path was going to feel the string of wrath with a vengeance. The six warriors look at me like I have completely lost my mind and I probably have. Was I being a bit overly dramatic, most likely, but I almost lost my best friend and cousin! I deserve to have a mean girl moment. Right?I followed behind the men, not paying attention to anything around me as my eyes only saw red. “Stupid… She-wolf… fucking… brilliant but so stupid…probably would be dead if they hadn’t… Dammit… So stupid!” I grumbled under my breath the entire way to the morgue that was located on the other side

Conrad’s POVThe steady beeping of the heart monitor seemed to calm my nerves as I watched my little Falon sleeping on the hospital bed in the Luna suite. Doc and the nurses were able to regulate her breathing better and get her asthma under control. Her angelic face was everything to me. A tightness in my chest brought me back to the realization that I almost lost my children today due to someone else’s negligence. Why was Benji out in the field with my children? How did the rogues get so close to the hospital? Why were my kids left alone?“Father! Father!” my son’s voice came through the door as it swung open. A layer of sweat and dirt covered his face and his black hair stuck to his forehead. I could see the worry in his eyes as he looked between me and a sleeping Falon.“Master Finnley, you can’t go in there! Your sister needs rest! Please Wait in Dr. Lancon’s office and I was get someone to take you back to the pack house.” A nurse followed close behind him. “I’m sorry Alpha… We

But I couldn’t let anything happen to Falon so even though my fear was at an ultimate high, I had to be brave.Taking the diplomatic route, I yelled. “Get out of here now before you are killed by the Alpha of this territory!”But the rogues just snarled at me. Their heads twitched violently back and forth and their eyes focused in and out. Flashing between red and black as if their wolves and their humans were fighting for control. They definitely were infected which made this whole situation a million times worse. One scratch from their claws and I was a goner for sure. What was I thinking coming out here alone!? And with two small kids?!One of the rogues took a swipe at me, but I knocked his claws away with my large tree branch. Th

Their claws extending from their fingertips and their eyes glowing a crimson red. There was something off about these men because they were attacking each other in a vicious brawl, completely unaware that they trespassed on pack lands.‘Artemis…’ I spoke through my pack’s mind-link.‘Hey Sherlock, what’s up?’ Artemis’ cheery tone filled my head, but I was nothing close to feeling cheery at the moment. My heart was pounding out of my chest.‘Rogues behind the hospital. I am here with two pups. Call the alpha and bring help.’ I didn’t give her a chance to respond when I cut the mind-link so I could focus on the rogues’ movements. They were still enthralled in their fight with each other which at the moment, I was thankful for.“Finnley…” I say softly without moving a muscle from where I stood watching the rogues. “I need you to calmly wa
