Eugene smiled at her adoringly and patted her head. “Go up now. Don’t catch a cold,” he told her.

Sharon turned around to go upstairs after seeing his car leave. She had just taken a few steps when a shadowy figure shrouded her view and blocked her path.

Her line of sight slowly moved upward from the person’s shoes to his face. Under the dim streetlights, she had to squint in order to tell who the other person was.

“Howard Zachary?” she blurted out. She felt much more clear-headed the moment she recognized his face.

Howard placed one of his hands in the pocket of his pants. With his back facing the light, half of his face was hidden in the shadows. The sinister smile etched across his face shocked her, causing her to jolt awake at once.

“Why… Why are you here?” she asked. Had he been waiting for her here all this time?

“You won today, so of course, I’m here to congratulate you,” he said. He raised his hand toward her. He had brought a bottle of liquor along with him.
