AARON'S POV
I turned to Octavia, who was still swaying to the beat, oblivious to the scene I’d just caused. I contemplated dragging her off the dance floor myself but then I hesitated.
I know what she is doing right now is some sort of coping mechanism, it is her way of dealing with her pain and as much as I hate the way she is being reckless and putting herself out there like this, I kind of understand it.
After making sure no idiot was close making any move towards her again, I turned and was about to retreat to the bar when I felt her hands suddenly wrap around my biceps, I turned back to her her see her looking up at me with a hazy, drunken smile.
She looks so innocently gorgeous and my heart did that jumping thing again. This girl is really testing my self restraint. I didn't show any emotion and responded with a questioning raise of an eyebrow.
“Dance with me,” she said, her voice slightly slurred, her fing
OCTAVIA'S POV My heart is pounding so loudly in my chest that I won't be surprised if Aaron can hear it. I pressed my back against the cold wall behind me, and held my breath as the guy in the mask approached us. Aaron’s hand that was holding mine tightened around my wrist, at first glance, he looks so calm but I can see from they way he back is tensed as he crouched in front of me. The man grew closer and every step he took felt like a hammer strike to my heart and I tightened my grip on the gun in my hand. I know these people are here because of me, I am not stupid, I saw that the man had pointed the gun directly at me earlier, not Aaron, not anyone else but me. Our eyes had met for a brief second before chaos ensued. But why? Why would anyone want me dead? I tried to think of anyone that I have met that would want me dead, apart from Allister who is already dead now, I can't think of any reason why someone would want me dead.Nothing makes sense, it is obvious that this is not
OCTAVIA'S POV The ride home is not supposed to take more than one hour but it feels like I have been driving for hours and we have only covered half of the journey. My finger gripped the steering wheel so tightly that my knuckles have started to turn white.I kept glancing at Aaron, he couldn't sit upright anymore and he is now slumped on the sit. He has gotten even paler, I didn't that is even possible, his usually olive-coloured skin now looks ashen. “Aaron,” I said, my voice breaking the tense silence. “Hope you are still awake." “I’m not sleeping,” he muttered, though his eyes are barely open. “You look like you’re seconds away from passing out,” I couldn’t hide the worry in my voice and I didn't even bother to try. “Talk to me. Say something. Anything.” “Fine,” he grunted. “You’re terrible at driving.” I glared at him, though I knew he couldn’t see it. “That’s not true.” “Stop lying to yourself,” he said, his voice sounds weak but his statement is still laced with infur
OCTAVIA'S POV I woke up sore the next morning, every muscles in my body seemed to protest as I swung my legs off the bed. None of the training we had was anything compared to what happened last night. The first thought that came to my mind was Aaron, I quickly washed up, got dressed and hurried down the hallway to his room, I didn't even remember to knock as I pushed the door open and stepped inside. There he was, he was awake and sitting up with his back resting against the headboard. The sight of him looking so alive filled me with so much relief, I hadn't realised how scared I was till now. A lot of improvement has happened within the night, it seems. He looks significantly better compared to yesterday, I noticed as I walked up to him. He is color is almost completely back now and the way his lips quirked in a smirk confirmed that he is feeling better. OCTAVIA Mikel gave a slight chuckle but it held no real humor. “Of course, I am scared to imagine what would have happened if he wasn't there, what were you doing in such a place anyway. The don't already own many casinos and club if you wanted to experience night life, you didn't have to do all the way there, see what happened." I clenched my teeth, this feels like a scolding, he didn't let me respond before he continued, "It was a reckless situation. But then again…” He paused, his gaze sharpening, and I braced myself for whatever he was about to say. “You are woman trying to play in a man’s world. Things like this are bound to happen.”I stared at him, the air leaving my lungs for a second. My temper flared. “What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked, my voice icy.Mikel shrugged, as though he were simply stating facts. “You know how it is, Octavia. In the mafia, women don’t usually involve themselves in these kinds of affairs. They get married and help to secure alliances and repa

As he drove through the winding streets, Mikel’s mind churned and he tried to compose himself. He has to play this carefully. Lionel isnt stupid. If he gets even a whiff of Mikel’s involvement in the attack on Octavia, it would be the end for him. But Mikel had been in the game long enough to know how to cover his tracks. He can always deflect, deceive, and manipulate his way out of suspicion like he always did. The initial plan had been simple, to eliminate Lionel, and since he didn’t have any children, he would automatically become the next don. Bryon would not be stupid enoigh to go against him. Over the years, he had been making, slow and calculated efforts to undermine subtly Lionel’s authority while gaining the loyalty of key players within the organization. JACQUELINE'S POVI lift my hand to wave the bartender over, my eyes pleading for another drink. Anything to numb the pain. But before I could even slur my order, a firm hand gripped mine."Stop, I think you've had enough," a low, smooth voice said.I tried to pull my hand away, but my movements were rough. "L-let me go," I stuttered, my words barely making any sense. He had taken me here why was he suddenly against itThe stranger ignored me, settling the tab with the bartender. He effortlessly lifted me off the stool, and I leaned on him unable to walk myself."Wh-where...?" I trailed off, giggling uncontrollably. "Your address?" he asked, his voice firm but gentle. "Oh no!" I slurred giggling "Mummy said not to talk to strangers"I just laughed again, unable to form any real words. He sighed, checking us into a hotel room. Jacqueline’s POV With each step that I took, professor Philips’ gaze lingered on me, his ocean blue eyes sucking me into a world of its own. While the bell sound still lingered in the air, students making an exit for their next lectures, his eyes never wavered from mine. My bag dangled freely from my right shoulder, and as I stood before him, I kept my eyes on my shoes, not daring to stare into his eyes again. Even with his presence alone, a replay of our previous night flashed through my mind like a vivid movie. My cheeks burned and it took my whole strength not to make a bolt for the door. Professor Philips raised my test papers before me and the fluttering sounds pulled me from my reverie, “your answers are all wrong.” His words were sharp, brutal, but I remained calm, slowly lifting my head to stare at him. His brows were knitted in confusion, like he'd expected me to do better, ace his test, but how was I supposed to answer the question with a temptation before me? With his sce
Philips’ POV“Steak, red wine and a large bowl of meatballs. What more could I ask for?” Hudson rubbed his hands as he stared at the meal before us, licking his lips hungrily. Feeling a twinge of irritation at his words, I wrapped my fingers around my glass of wine and took a small sip. The soft murmurs of people lingered in the air as waiters moved around, taking people's orders. Strangely, my regular lunch spot bustled with life, people trooping in and out of the restaurant. Being surrounded by so many people made me uncomfortable, but with Hudson around, I couldn't resist his pleas. With the familiar flavor on the tip of my tongue, my lips curled up, “Your obsession with steak is fascinating.” I commented, watching as he hungrily devoured his filled plate, “Aren't you on duty today? You got here quite early.” Hudson grinned, “I'm off duty for the next few days.” He replied, never tearing his gaze from the steak, “I'm going to need all the time in the world to plan my wedding.”
