Gianna’s POV
“Is there a problem, Don Alessandro?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “My father has agreed to your terms and he’s willing to give you the Alessia Cartel ring in exchange for my brother.” “I know that, Gianna. But do you want to let go of the Alessia cartel without putting up a fight? I know who it’s named after and I know what it means to you.” Don Alessandro said. “She has no say in my business, Don Alessandro. If there’s anyone you need to ask approval from, it’s me.” My father said before I could say anything. Don Alessandro turned and nodded to the guards standing behind him who held up Miguel and they took turns beating Miguel. My mouth hung open in shock as I watched the entire scene happen, there was nothing my father nor I could do except watch as Miguel was beaten into a pulp. “Let this serve as a warning to you, Salvatore. Do not speak unless spoken to. Do you understand?” Don Alessandro drawled, an amused expression on his face. “Yes, Don Alessandro.” My father replied through clenched teeth. “Gianna, I asked you a question and I’ll need you to answer.” Don Alessandro said, turning his attention back to me. “If I had my way, I wouldn’t let you have the Alessia Cartel Ring,” I answered. Don Alessandro nodded and sat upright. The smirk had fallen off his face and he looked deadly serious. “I’ve decided to listen to your wishes concerning the fate of the Alessia Cartel Ring and the life of your brother on one condition,” Don Alessandro began. “And what could that possibly be?” I asked fearfully. Don Alessandro pushed himself up to his feet. “I’ll tear up the documents for the transfer of the Alessia Cartel ring and release your brother if you marry me.” The silence was deafening, everyone’s eyes were fixed on Don Alessandro who hadn’t taken his eyes off me. “With all due respect, father. Tell me you’re joking about this. Have you considered the consequences?” Maya said, her voice filled with disbelief. My father was staring at the ceiling. He was lost in thought and I knew he was mulling over what Don Alessandro had just proposed. “I wouldn’t have made that statement if I wasn’t being honest about it,” Don Alessandro replied. “I’ve given it a good amount of thought and this is my final decision. If Gianna agrees to marry me, Miguel returns home with his father and the Alessia Cartel ring remains in their custody.” “What if I’m already engaged to someone else?” I asked, overcoming my momentary shock. “Who could that possibly be? I don’t mind paying him off for the right to have your Gianna if you want it to be done that way,” Don Alessandro replied, gesturing to my father. “I’ll be honest with you, Don Alessandro. You’ve put me in a rather awkward situation. You could’ve asked for anything else and I would have granted you your wish without batting an eyelash.” My father frowned. “I do not know what other incentives you've prepared, Salvatore. But one thing is certain, if I do not have your approval for Gianna to be my wife, Miguel will remain here.” My father fell silent and Don Alessandro took this as his chance to state his claim. “See it this way, Salvatore. There would be no greater bond between mafias anywhere else in the world and you know this. A union between the strongest mafia families in Los Angeles would strengthen our relationship for all of eternity to come.” I sat in shock as I registered Don Alessandro’s words. At first, I believed that he was only making an attempt at being funny but the more he spoke, the easier I could recognize the steel in his voice. This was no hoax or joke, he meant every word he uttered. He wanted me to be his wife? Had he gone bonkers? Aside from the fact that was two decades older than I was, I didn’t even know who he was! What was he trying to pull here? I covered my face with my hands as I yelled internally. Don Alessandro knew what he was doing and he knew how to press the right buttons. It was clear to anyone that my dad was only interested in preserving his legacy, and he wasn’t going to see how ludicrous this suggestion was. The only reason the egotistical Don Alessandro wanted me to marry him was because he saw me as some sort of appeasement before he let go of my brother. I was to be his consolation prize, that was all he saw me as. He didn’t regard me as anything important, I was only a means to an end and nothing else. I wasn’t going to have that, I had enough of being bullied around without having any say in my life. “Do you both realize I’m seated right here?” I shot up from my seat, interrupting their conversation. “You’re both haggling over my future without the idea of asking for my opinion on my own life, do either of you realize how incredibly absurd that is?” “Gianna, you will sit down this instant.” My dad began in a low warning tone but I refused to budge. “I’ve been quiet for a long time and I’ve earned the right to speak.” I began defiantly. “If you’re going to discuss my life, I want to have a say in it. Don’t you think I’ve earned the right to?” “You swore an oath to me, Gianna. You’re bound to obey my wishes and I have made my decision on Don Alessandro’s suggestion. You’re going to stay here and become his wife in exchange for the release of your brother.” I turned to glare at Don Alessandro, wishing I could knock off that ridiculous smug look on his face. Had he known who I was before he approached me at the bar? He had to, there was no way all of these could merely be a coincidence. It was too detailed to be designed by fate and I was only too eager to jump into bed with him.Gianna’s POV“Why me?” I narrowed my eyes into slits as I glared at him. There were over a hundred girls at the bar but he chose me and here he was, doing the same thing less than twenty-four hours later. I wanted to know why, there had to be a pattern and I wanted it revealed to me. “You’re different, Amore.”“My name is—“Don Alessandro held up a hand to silence me. “You see? Only a few people would dare speak to me in that manner and you don’t even care about hierarchy or power, you speak your mind and that’s what I want in a wife not some dolled-up girl with half-wits.”“I’m sorry that I’ll have to turn you down but I’m in the process of being engaged to someone else,” I replied after a moment’s pause. I noticed Maya slap her hand over her mouth to hide her laughter out of the corner of my eyes but I didn’t care right now. I was willing to use every chance I could get to wiggle my way out of this situation. “Whoever he is, I doubt he could be any better than I am.” Don Alessa
“You’re going to have to do a lot better than that, Don Alessandro.” I chucked. “That’s not enough—not for me anyway. My father and brother would be delighted with it, but I’m not.”“I thought you came here to set your brother free at any cost?” Don Alessandro asked, puzzled at first. “Yes, I did. But, I’m not going to sacrifice my life for him. I need something that would benefit me in the long run. Simply put, I want to have your power, Don Alessandro. If you can guarantee me that, I’ll accept your terms and be your wife.” I said. “Power isn’t an item to be traded, Gianna. You’re going to be a lot more specific about what you’re asking from me.” Don Alessandro said as watched me. He was confused.“I want to wield your power and your influence because I’m going to take over my father’s position as the head of the mafia when the time is right,” I said. Don Alessandro’s eyes widened in shock but he quickly masks his surprise. “Coups aren’t surprising as they happen now and then but
My eyes widened in shock as a small gasp escaped through my lips. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as I clenched my thighs, already feeling my panties getting soaked as his words reverberated through me. Before I could collect myself to speak, Don Alessandro was already at the door. “Come on, Gianna. We have an announcement to make.” His eyes were filled with mischief and I knew he did that on purpose, to get me rattled and he had gotten what he wanted. “Gianna and I have discussed the terms I proposed here in this room earlier,” Don Alessandro began as he stood at the head of the table. The room was silent when we returned but I could sense the tensions in the air. On one hand, my father and Miguel were fervently praying that I accept Don Alessandro’s offer while Maya wanted all of these to be nothing more than an expensive joke. “Gianna has accepted my proposal, we’re getting married in a few days.” I felt Don Alessandro’s eyes on me and I forced myself to hol
The wedding was a huge success largely due to the presence of the well-equipped security forces that Alessandro had surrounding the venue. The guests had also been important members of his mafia and mine as well. Alessandro had refused to answer when I had bugged him about the number of security personnel he had around. He merely told me that he wasn’t leaving anything to chance and that was the end of the conversation. I’d been in his room for the past couple of hours but he wasn’t here yet. He’d promised me that he’d be here over two hours ago. The wedding ended four hours ago so I knew he wasn’t with the guests. Feeling frustrated, I pushed myself off the bed and headed to the door. If Alessandro felt he would leave me here all night and attend to other businesses, he was wrong. I opened the door to see two guards standing on each side of the door. “I’m sorry, ma’am. But, we have instructions not to let you leave this room.” A gruff voice said. Alessandro would’ve given them
We never had the chance to try the white room technique because as soon as the spy heard our discussion, he was all too eager to give us whatever information was demanded from him. The possibility of spending a few months staring at white walls was scary enough to break him completely. Men like him were used to being beaten and having a few bones broken or a tooth removed with pliers but sophisticated torture was where they drew the line. It was a strange feeling they never wanted to experience. The spy revealed he was part of a small gang, still trying to find their feet under the tutelage of Donovan. Alessandro didn’t seem shocked by the revelation or maybe he didn’t want to reveal his emotions there. Alessandro and I made our way back to our bedroom while his subordinates put the guy in dungeons with chains restricting him from trying to take his life. As soon as Alessandro closed the door behind us, I walked into the bathroom to get the stench of blood out of my skin. Giovann
The rays of sunlight seeped through the slightly opened curtains and fell across my face, forcing me to open my eyes.I shielded my eyes with my palm as I turned to the other side of the bed and glanced at the digital clock on the bed stand, it was 9:45 AM. I’d overslept again—if you could say that. For the past couple of days, Alessandro and I had done nothing but have sex at every given moment. I couldn’t remember the last time we had a proper conversation and for the life of me, I didn’t mind. We would have the time to talk later but our wants had to be satisfied before anything else. I heard the shower running, Alessandro was taking his bath. He’d probably just woken up as well. We were up for most of the nights taking turns on ourselves—or more like he was taking it out on me. I touched the back of my neck and winced. Alessandro had grabbed onto it a little too tightly a few hours ago but I didn’t have it in me to complain. He loved his sex rough and while I wasn’t what you w
There was nothing for me to do today after Alessandro angrily stormed out of the house after the little argument we had that morning. We hadn’t yet discussed what my roles would be in his mafia and technically, we were supposed to be on our honeymoon but Alessandro had a ton of engagement here in the mafia that needed his attention. The threat being posed by his step-brother, Donovan, had only grown despite our marriage and he was trying to nullify the threat completely. My best guess was that the only reason Donovan wasn’t in chains and being held in some remote location off the coast of some island was because he shared the same blood with Alessandro. I wasn’t worried about playing my part. I was going to give Alessandro a son and in turn, he would give me the required help to lead a coup against my father and take control of his mafia. The next year was going to be pivotal and exhilarating, I couldn’t wait for the actions to begin but for now, I had nothing to do and an idle mi
Over the next couple of days, my ritual included spending the whole of the afternoon with Delight in the gardens learning about anything she was willing to talk about for the whole day. I didn’t mind sitting down and listening to her talk, she could do it for hours and she always had something to say. Stars are hugely celestial bodies made mostly of hydrogen and helium that produce light and heat from the churning nuclear forges inside their cores. They are the building block of the galaxies of which there are billions of them in the universe.Stars can live for billions of years, most of the stars in our galaxy including the sun are categorized as main sequence stars. Some stars shine more brightly than others as a result of luminosity and distance from the Earth. As stars approach the end of their lives, much of their hydrogen gets converted to helium, the stars then undergo various changes to become a red giant; it then sheds its outer layer becoming a white dwarf before eventual
Seven years laterIt’s been seven years of peace and our relations with everyone have prospered as well. There has been no war or reports of rebellions in any part of the jurisdiction that Yoda oversees and we have been living our best lives as well aside from the occasional attempts by people who wanted to harm us. The pact we made with Yoda seven years ago had proven to be a masterstroke. The starting had been extremely difficult seeing as Yoda wasn’t from the bloodline but as things went on, it became easier for Alessandro to teach Yoda the ropes and he had been extremely patient with Yoda until he became his own man. Jade had returned to her coven after completing her teachings and it had been a year since we saw her last. It was quite understandable, she had left a lot of things unattended to and they needed her now more than ever. The coven was growing and they needed a permanent high priestess. The most shocking thing that had happened in the past seven years was the marria
The door opened once again and this time, Yoda walked in.“Am I interrupting something?” He asked.“No, not at all. I was only checking in on the Don.” The doctor said, “You also need to convince her to sleep, I pray you have better luck with that than I did.” As soon as the door closed, Yoda turned to face me.“You know the doctor is right, yes?” “I’m tired of hearing that, Yoda.” I sighed. “I’ll have peace of mind when he’s back with us, not before.” “You’re just as stubborn as he is.” Yoda shook his head. “Is that a compliment or..?” I trailed off, hoping he would provide the answers. “It depends on what perspective you’re seeing it from.” Yoda shrugged. “Do you think he’s going to come out of this?” I asked, my eyes finding Alessandro. “I’m going to tell you something, Gianna. I’m not sure he’s told you yet but Alessandro relinquished his position in this mafia a while ago.”I stared at him like he’d gone mad. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” “No, I’m not. He handed everythi
I was consumed by fear and an even greater desire to figure out what the hell was going on with Alessandro. It’s been weeks since the decimation of Syrius and I was supposed to have the best time of my life at this point. I had been working hard to pick up the pieces of the rubble the scuffle left behind. It was over now, our enemies and anyone who might have wanted to stand against us, their prestige, and honor were in the dirt now. Everyone was begging to swear fealty to the mafia. Life couldn’t have gone any better or so I thought. I had to face the backlash head-on, I had everything to lose and nothing to gain if I didn’t figure out what was wrong with Alessandro. Thankfully, our child had been drugged with sleeping pills throughout, so he wasn't traumatized and the doctors had cleared him a few days after I was discharged but Alessandro’s case was proving to be quite difficult. It was expected that defeat would come at a huge price and seeing Alessandro lying unconscious in h
“You should’ve stayed hidden, Syrius. What the fuck do you want?” “Careful, Gianna. I enjoy you but be careful. The Syrius you once knew is gone and I don’t play around anymore.” I paused and weighed my options. I didn’t want to rile him up, he held all the chips and I had nothing. “Where’s my son?” I asked. “He’s safe.” Syrius replied. “He has no part in whatever revenge plot you have, you need to let him go and take me in his stead.” I said, trying to bargain. “I’ll make you a better offer, Gianna.” Syrius chuckled. I didn't want to hear anything he had to say but I had no choice.“And what could that be? All I want is my son. I’m not interested in bargaining for his life.” I reiterated. “I know Alessandro forces you into doing and if it weren’t for him, I’d have taken you from him all those years ago.” Syrius began. “You’re delusional if you—““I can’t stand seeing him happy and if you’ll be willing to cut ties to him, I’ll return your son to you and you’ll be by my side
I walked briskly into the large room, it was a typical, bleak coffee-stained room with dirty walls. The scent of sweat, cigarettes and musky cologne hung in the air like a chandelier, there were pictures on the wall which were some kind of modern art, the furniture looked plain, uncomfortable, leather and black. My eyes landed on a large man sitting at the center of the room. A long metal table with paper strewn across the surface, separated me from who I assumed to be the boss, he was flanked by men holding mean-looking guns, some I hadn't seen before in my life and that said a lot about the kind of people I was dealing with here. I took a close look at him as I approached the table, my gaze wary as it darted from face to face trying to pick up a hint. The skin on his body looked like grade-three sandpaper, the consistency was unreal. He lifted his face and pushed away his bowl of cereal as he saw me coming towards him. His face was badly burnt, the hair on his head was charred an
Lying down on the raw concrete, I could feel the walls closing in around me. I felt the vicious pounding of my heart banging repeatedly against my ribcage.I shut my eyes tightly. I could still hear myself yelling their names over the cacophony of a billion shards of glass as my head slammed into the mirror. I couldn't bring myself to bask in the pain I felt. I had little to no time to do what these men wanted or my son would be dead. Instinctively, I touched where a shard of glass had cut me. The wound had been bandaged expertly. I had to give it to them, they had thought everything through before they made their first attack. I was like a recruit thrust into the heat of a raging war, I needed to find a safe place before I was blown to bits out here in the open.I groaned as I struggled to sit up, I had no idea on how I got here but I didn't care about that right now. I had more important things to worry about, I needed to be up on my feet, thinking. I needed my brain working overt

I felt dejected as I searched each room hoping to find him in there but I knew the truth, he was gone and I had no idea where he had gone to. The wardrobe was empty as well, he had packed his bags and he was probably halfway across the world for all she could know. Despite sitting in our room for hours, I knew I missed him and I could feel the tears stinging the back of my eyes. This wasn’t how I had envisaged my life a few weeks and it hurt now that I was faced with this shitty reality. Our first conversation after he’d been discharged from the hospital didn’t go too well. I couldn’t stop myself from blaming him for the disappearance of our son. I categorically told him that I believed our son was kidnapped because of the ties he has to him and the mafia. Alessandro had tried to reason with me but I didn’t want to hear any of it, all I wanted was my son. My phone rang and I retrieved it from my pocket, it was Tiffany. She had promised to call back after a couple of hours.“Hey
