Chapter 4: Fern
I was busy scanning my notes in a way that I can review it easily if there will be a quiz. I can't imagine that the first day is so tough already. Our recent three teachers discussed all the first lessons of their subject. They will be sending us online assessments for the said discussions. Good thing that my classmates are easy to talk to and approachable. They have already created and added me to the group chat exclusively for our section. I also knew some of their names based on the introduction part a while ago on the Business Math subject. This is the typical first day, so boring. Last one subject is remaining before the break time. I chatted with Sera again about what her first day was like but she didn't reply. She's also offline too.
I got my highlighter and was about to highlight a certain word on my notes when suddenly someone grabbed it. I glanced at it and saw the cutie guy holding my highlighter.
"Why so serious? You should at least relax and breathe!" He smiled, making his eyes smile too. He handed me the highlighter again and I just put it back on my bag.
I just leaned on my chair, sighed and looked at him, "It was so boring. I can't do anything rather than picking up my phone, read--"
"Then eat." I stopped and looked at him getting a snack from his bag. It was a biscuit rather. "Eat this, it's my favorite biscuit." he said and held my hand, putting the biscuit on it.
"I will just buy it later, you should have it." I replied and offered to get it back.
He just smiled, resting his chin on his hand and placing his elbow on his desk. He started to look at me intently. "You're beautiful."
My eyes grew wider and chuckled. "You're changing the topic. You should get this and eat it yourself. It's your favorite, don't bother giving it to me."
"I have many supplies of that in my house, eat it now." he simply replied and just looked at me smiling.
I just shrugged it off and started to eat the biscuit he gave. Oh, it's sweet. I glanced at him again and smiled, "Thank you."
"No problem, gorgeous." I almost rolled my eyes because of his words. If only Patry is like this, I'm sure I'll be very happy and not be sleeping thinking of those words again and again.
I saw his brows creased and crossed his arms, "You're always ordering at the tea hub and also at the pizza parlor?"
I just gave him a nod. "The tea hub is our favorite spot with my bestfriends and the pizza parlor is just a few walks from our house."
He slowly nodded and offered his hand, "I'm Fern Hugo Javier."
"I heard it a while ago. I remember your name." I replied and shook his hands. "Kira May Lucas here."
He scratched his head. "I'm a working student. So I'm sorry if I get to sleep and not be able to wake up easily when the teacher comes."
I finished the biscuit and smiled, "No worries. I'll be the one to wake you up everytime. Being a working student is a tough responsibility and I'm sure your parents are proud of you."
He smiled and leaned on his chair. The classroom became quiet as our teacher entered and put his things on the teacher's table. As usual, another subject equals another lesson. I just spent the entire time writing some notes and listening to the teacher. I glanced beside me and saw Fern looking so sleepy again. Maybe work and discussions make him so sleepy?
Time passed until our vacant time came. I poked Fern's arms and try to shake him. "Wake up, it's eating time."
He immediately sat straight. He looked at me then faintly smiled. "Okay, gorg."
We headed to the canteen and to my surprise, I saw Patry talking with his friends walking and was about to pass me when he caught my gaze. I smiled and waved at him.
His friends also stopped and looked at me and Patry. They smiled at me while I saw Patry looking at Fern beside me and back at me then rolled his eyes. He walks away and his friends follow. I saw them exit the canteen and I just sighed.
"You know him?" Fern asked me. I gazed at him, smiled while nodding. We bought our foods and find a table. He started to ask about Patry and I just laughed it off.
"Is he your brother?" he asked again.
I shook my head and replied, "My best friend's brother."
He nodded and looked at me intently. "There's something I want to know but I'm not going to ask you about it now."
Looks like he caught my stares a while ago. But I'm definitely sure that he's also doubting it. It's somewhat impossible for me to like someone who is younger than me. He just looks like my brother, well he looks mature but not that obvious to say he's older than me. Anyway, he's Patry, he's pretty hot, and I like him. Too hot and cold to handle.
"By the way, Fern," I started. He looked at me. "What do you do everyday? Do you have work later?"
"My employer gave me the weekdays to spend my time learning and the weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, they are my working days."
I gasp, "So you mean. . ."
His smile seems faded, "Yes, kinda tiring. But, I have no choice."
I sipped on my soda and leaned on my chair. "You live with your parents? Or independent? If you don't mind?"
He chuckled and ruffled my hair which made me pouted. "I live with my Mom and two siblings. I'm the eldest and my Mom doesn't have work because she has some heart issues that prevent her from doing so. I just let her stay at home with my brother and sister. Definitely, I'm the one who insists on being a working student to help my family sustain and survive."
That's really tough. Should I ask about his father also? No.
He leaned on the table and looked at me which made me stop, "He left us when I was 8. I don't care about him anymore, that's a given right?" he laughed and I just stared at him.
People sure have different issues in life and all that we should do is to be sensitive. Maybe some people felt complete, some did not. That's the reality and we should at least respect it.
"Hey, Kira..." My gaze switched to Sera who just came and held her food in a tray. I smiled and gave her a space to sit beside me.
She gazed at me then looked at Fern and back at me again. Okay, I know what she's thinking.
"Fern, meet my best friend, Sera. Sera, he's Fern. My seatmate." She nodded and began to eat her food. Fern also nodded and smiled at Sera.
I was about to finish my meal when Fern stood up and scratched his head. "I gotta go and leave you girls here. I have something to look at in the Library."
"Okay, see you in the room later." I replied and smiled at him. He smiled back and winked at me then turned his back on me.
Sera poked me. "What was that? Have you known each other since then?" She's referring to Fern's actions. I can tell that we have looked like close friends since earlier for being so comfortable.
"He's the cashier boy in the tea hub and the pizza parlor near our house." I replied and her eyes widened.
"That is so amazing! He's so responsible at this age." She replied and took a bite on her sandwich.
I wiped my mouth and nodded. "He's so kind too."
She began to eat her food and I just let her eat peacefully. I roamed my eyes and it automatically stopped when I saw Patry entering the canteen again with his friends. The butterflies in my stomach began to rumble when I saw his sly smile. If the time comes that he will not be annoyed by me, can I ask for his wide smile? Oh, I should buy a camera! So I can capture some photos of him and stare at him when I get home.
"You know what, Kira? I wonder sometimes if Patry's studying because I saw him at our house, always playing games." I heard Sera stated.
I smiled while still looking at Patry. Now, he's sitting a lil too far from our table. "Did he excel in class last year? Included in the top list?"
"Yes, seventh. And please, have pity on your neck." I immediately turned to Sera and to my surprise, I heard a crack on my neck. "Aww!" I groaned and massaged my neck.
She laughed and wiped her mouth using tissue. "I told you! Don't be so exaggerated and just focus first on loving yourself, okay?"
I slowly turned to where Patry was but then I only saw his friends. Where did he go?
She heaved a sigh and I gaze at her. "My schedule changed. We can't be together later when classes are over."
"It's okay. I can handle myself." I gave her a smile and drank my water after.
We hugged and parted ways when the vacant time was over. I returned to my classroom and saw Fern who's sleeping again. Some of my classmates greeted me when I entered the room. I talked with them for a few minutes before returning to my seat. We talked about our past schools or where we came from, introduced ourselves, and shared so much laughter. They're so kind as well. I think as the time goes by, I'll be comfortable with them. Mostly now in senior highschool, teachers might be grouping us for some activities related to the subject matter. It's good for us to develop more social and communicative skills. In the business industry, we might be talking about how to communicate with some of our investors, employees, employers, even bosses, or co-workers. Senior highschool really is a stepping stone to college.
Our teacher came and didn't notice Fern as he continued to discuss the subject matter. I am hiding my laugh and trying to derive my attention, to be honest. Two subjects have passed and until the last subject, Fern's still sleeping. Last row seems to be the safest haven for the sleep-deprived students.
"Goodbye, class dismissed." The last subject teacher said and left the room.
Everyone began to stretch themselves and left the classroom to go home. I also fixed my things and prepared myself to go home. I almost jumped when my eyes caught Fern who's now awake and looking at me.
"You should have just talked at least! Don't scare me like that!" I said while laughing.
He pouted, "You should at least wake me up a while ago. I think I missed the lessons."
"Yes, you have missed it all."
He scratched his head and got his bag. I also stood up and walked towards the door to leave the room. I noticed him following and walking beside me while we made our way towards the gate.
"I have a question to ask, Kira." he said which made me look at him. "Hmmm?"
"Is it right to be a working student? You see, I work in two working areas at a time and I can't prevent myself from sleeping during class hours. I think I'm just wasting my time here."
I stopped and smiled at him. "You know, if you can't handle two or more responsibilities at a time, it's okay to rest. It's always your right to say 'no' to anything that might be bothering you in consequence. You're a human, not a robot. You should at least prioritize your health because it might affect your future."
"So you're saying that I should stop studying?"
"No, I'm saying that you still can rest in class hours. I'll be the one to help you with notes and we'll be reviewing together. Don't be too hard on yourself. I know your family expects so much from you. It’s the reality."
He gave me a wide smile and to my surprise, he hugged me. I just tapped his back and laughed. He moved away and clung his arms surrounding my shoulders.
"Gosh! You're taking advantage of my height!" I squealed and he just laughed it off.
He offered to accompany me back home but I declined. I'm really sure he has many things to deal with in his home and I don't want to be his burden as a friend. Yes, I have a friend now! I'm going to tell this to my parents. Your daughter is friendly and nice at school! LOL.
I decided to ride a tricycle and get on the way to my house. We safely reached and gave a tip to the driver who was very kind. He left and I was about to unlock my gate when a strong blow of wind passed my back. It triggered me to look on my backside and roamed my eyes, making me see nothing but a peaceful path. I unlocked the gate and locked it again when I'm inside.
Maybe the weather's nice, so the wind is blowing that strong?
Chapter 5:Stalker "Kira!" "SHI---T!" I shrieked and literally jumped out of frustration. I hit Fern's arms who is now laughing his sanity off. So rude! I rolled my eyes at him and continued what I'm reading. "You-- You look hilarious! You're being so sensitive lately!" he said while laughing. "Just stop calling me out of nowhere!" I replied and glared at him. I just let him enjoy the scene that just happened and take a look at the book I'm holding. It's been almost two months since I've been used to going to school and it's that long that I've been feeling something was wrong all throughout. He scratched his head while looking at me. "What's bothering y
Chapter 6:Dangerous "You owe me an explanation, Kira. Did he really go to your house and say sorry?" Sera and I were strolling now in the mall trying to refresh up. I badly wanted to forget what I heard in their conversation but it looks like I will not forget it because she's always asking about it. I just rolled my eyes and sighed. "I told you, yes. He went and just left." "What?!" I stopped and looked at her. My tongue got caught, too late. We sought a table here at the food court and sat. Sera bought me some food and returned quickly. She looked at me curiously and raised her brows. "Now, speak." I raised my hands in the air, "Okay, fine. I'll confess."
Chapter 7: Closer My eyes felt so heavy when I started to open it and try to adjust my sight. When my eyes managed to open, I was welcomed by the people who are so familiar. They looked so worried and I could feel the warmth their presence was giving. “Kira, how are you feeling?” Sera asked. I was about to speak when my throat ached. Gosh, I think my whole body hurts. I can’t manage to speak nor sit properly. “Don’t force yourself.” A voice commanded. I saw a lady with her lab gown, probably a doctor. Oh, I just realized that I’m in a hospital. “Your body is slowly healing. By this time, you can feel the pain all over your body because you’re traumatized.” “Traumatized? Does she need a psychologist?” Mommy G asked an
Chapter 8: Hate “Ugh! That girl gave me a lot of headaches!” Fern grumpily massaged his temple. I just chuckled at his reaction and shrugged. He mentioned to me last week since we had joined some clubs that there’s a girl-- a year older than him who talks a lot and nags him. He hated her and just wanted to switch to the club where I’m in but it’s not valid. Once you have joined a club, there’s no more switching to another. He joined the cooking club since he has experience working in the food business. I guess he’s just unlucky. “Kira, help me ask our head teacher to let me transfer to another club! I can’t stand her!” Fern took my hand and pleaded. He also flashed his blinking eyes like a puppy. I rolled my eyes. “You know I can’t.”
Chapter 9: Safe zone “Is it alright for you to stay here?” I asked Fern. He smiled. “It’s okay. Our supervisor told us to enjoy the day with the customers today because of the event. It will increase the customer’s satisfaction if we continue to communicate with them.” I just nodded and took a sip of my cheesecake milk tea. Today is the Anniversary event of BondTea Hub and as promised, I’ll go with him. I have invited Sera to join but she refused because she has to do some memorization for her subject matter. Soon enough, I’ll be busy like her because our exams are coming.
Chapter 10: Girlfriend “I can’t believe that my grades went well. I’m not really learning anything this sem.” said Sera after scanning her grades on her account on the school's website. I just smiled and dozed myself to Lit Fire which I was playing right now. I’ve been playing with BlazingEvesince the day the he apologized to me. We also began to talk a lot about the game and he even taught me some tricks to kill many opponents. “Hey, are you happy with your grades?” Sera asked and glanced at my laptop to see what I’m playing.
Chapter 11: Grandma’s story “You went to our room so late that I didn’t notice that you came back. What happened to you? Your eye bags are showing. Is that an effortless zombie face for Halloween?” We’re here at the terrace surrounded by the different beautiful flowers. They have this table and chairs made from acacia. The wind is blowing like trying to erase my numb feelings. I just shrugged on what she said and faced my laptop. Of course, I’m not having a good sleep after I heard Patry boasting about his girlfriend. It keeps on repeating inside my head. My head, heart, and my whole system stopped. I didn’t sleep because I couldn't. His words cut deeper than a knife. Did Mommy G and uncle know about his girlfriend already? Why didn’t he introduce her to them? Why am I suggesting that scenario? I’ll be a realistic zombie indeed if that day comes! “Hey, I’m asking you!” Sera exclaimed and tapped my shoulder. “It’s the typical scene where the protagonist’s heart hurts.” I just repl
Chapter 12: Fern’s Dad The next day, I woke up so late that I found Sera nowhere to be found beside me. I was clueless about where she went. I can’t remember last night that she’ll go somewhere today. She didn’t bother waking me up either. After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I planned to go to the living room and was also shocked that no one’s around. I didn’t bother to change my pajamas and get my slippers on and went to the terrace. The surroundings were clear and enveloped by fresh air. All that I could hear was the slapping of the winds into the trees making its leaves to fall, along with birds enjoying their freedom. There was a familiar smell which I can tell that someone is cooking but I don’t know where it came from. No one is around. Did they leave me? I just sighed. “Where did they go?” I whispered the wind and stretched my arms. Feels so good to flex my body after a good sleep! “Your tummy’s showing, chubby.” I immediately pulled down my arms and turned to loo
PATRICIA “Patricia.” Patricia looked at her brother. "Hmmm?" "I’ve been calling you to come downstairs. You have a visitor." She stood up and released the book she was holding. "Who is it?" "Just come down and look. Stop asking." Kit rolled his eyes and left his younger sister. Patricia, on the other hand, was still smiling until she came downstairs to see who her visitor was. She opened the gate and smilingly looked at her alleged visitor. But that smile of hers suddenly disappeared when she saw that visitor. "It's been a while." Patricia was about to close the gate again when the man in front of her blocked his body to stop her. "I want my fiancé back. Please come back to me." Patricia's face immediately shifted when he said that and faked a smile. "You missed your chance, so now I want you to stay out of my life." ** KIT “Your sister looks adorable.” Kit looked at his friend, Yang. "Don't you know that every time you tell me that, I get disgusted?" "Bro, court Kit’s
"Mom, wake up." When I heard that little voice, I immediately rolled over and woke up. "Why baby? What's the matter?" I asked him tenderly but I was surprised when he rolled his eyes. "Mom, your hair looks like grass. Fix your face as well." That's all he said and left me. I just forced a smile because of what I heard from him. That kid really resembled Patry. I'm just really holding back from being annoyed every time. And I just heap my annoyance on Patry every time that kid treats me like that. His name is Kit Bautista, our 10 years old baby boy. He is still our baby even though he speaks like that. For heaven's sake! He's just a grade 4, an elementary student. Yet when he speaks, he sounded like Patry when he was so snobbish before. It's really his fault. I just fixed myself and went down. My husband and our second daughter appeared before my eyes. "Mom, you look so pretty." She approached me and even kissed my cheek. Sweet! Her name is Patricia Bautista. Our second born, 7

He is the culprit why Kira's parents died suddenly. It was a plane crash, a suicidal thing. I think he paid the pilot of that plane. Is he that desperate to get rid of Kira? I gritted my teeth in disgust. "You're already in jail but you still don't regret what you did. You have a daughter but that's what you did to Kira. What if all that happens to Olivia?” I faked a laugh. “Maybe you also intentionally killed your wife before, Olivia's Mom. Isn't it? " He immediately stood up and punched the glass that was blocking between us. "I LOVE MY EX-WIFE! I LOVE MY DAUGHTER! I DID EVERYTHING FOR THEM! OLIVIA JUST FORCED TO MAKE IMPRISONED BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU!" I stood up as well and brought my face close to his even though there was a glass blocking us. "I didn’t fo

I just looked at her and averted my eyes. I heard of her, she's the daughter of a famous senator. There were so many rumors about her and the news was fast. That senator donated half a million to the university for the construction of another building. In simple words, he's a big fish. So all the teachers as well as the director were kind to Olivia. But what amazed me was that she has been clinging to me a lot since she transferred. Annoying. With the dynamic number of students here, why me? "I transferred here because of you. I mentioned you to Dad and you know he's so powerful, don't you? When he finds out that you don't pay attention to me, he will do bad things just to bury you alive." That girl was insane. She insisted on talking to me no matter what I did to push her

But it looks like my friends will be my rivals as well. We were walking at the mall and accidentally, we met Kira at the Game House. I didn't know about them going to the mall together. My friends invited me, and it distracted my direction from her. Another point is that they seemed to be drawn to her. "Let's go somewhere." I walked ahead and walked away from Kira. I’ll be back, love. "Your sister's friend looked so cute." I heard Nucleus say so I clenched my fist. I heard Third laugh. "There are a lot of good ones in the Grade 11 batch. To be honest, there are more girls here in Arkinstein than in San Fuego High." "But Patry's sister's friend is way more cute." I stopped walking when I heard what

"No. Don't you ever come here again." I sternly said and rushed back to my room. After I closed the door, I placed my hand on my chest .... it’s clenching and seems like I’m going to puke. I've been pushing her away out of our house. She doesn't deserve to be treated like this. I knew that all along but I still kept on saying bad words to her. I’m forcing her to leave and I’m making her feel that she does not belong to our family. I grabbed my camera and tried to take some pictures of her while going home. All of the pictures of her that I took were her looking so sad… because of me. I've been taking pictures of her since she was in Junior Highschool, I forgot to mention. It was worth it because I always see her face. Now that she’s now always going to our h

HE PUSHED ME! HUHUHU!” I flashed a disgusted face as I saw the kid’s crying drama. I was only five and it’s my first time to try playing with the other kids in grandma and grandpa’s hacienda. I really thought that the kids here are so kind, welcoming, and playful. But then, this male kid who approached me tried to snatched my transformer figure. It was so expensive and I’m scared that it might get broken. Instead of pulling the figure with him, I pushed him instead. Is that bad? “Hijo, what happened? You pushed your playmate so hard that it caused him to have a bleeding knee.” Our grandma approached me but her voice was so soft. It’s like she just wanted to understand me. “I pushed him because he wanted my toy. This is only mine.” I averted my eyes and I heard her sigh. Another day
Chapter 104: Bells are ringing I was enraged for almost a month while enduring not talking to Patry. I have no intention of telling him more about the baby in my womb now. I’m thinking that I would just raise him on my own. I don't want to go and marry a man who is a cheater and can't be satisfied. I can't stand the baby's suffering in the future. He had set up a tent outside our house, waiting for me to talk to him but I didn’t bother. "Kira, Patry have been sleeping outside for almost a month. When are you going to talk to him?" I looked at Sera. "Why did you let him in through the gate? He's banned here, isn't he? My head gets even hotter when he's near." "He bought you macaroni soup downstairs and the cravings you said last night, siopao and siomai." I was stunned and immediately stood up. I heard her laugh and I knew she was teasing me. I went downstairs until I reached the dining table. My stomach immediately growled when I saw the macaroni soup. I took a spoon and immediate
Chapter 103: Break up? "I'm not sure if our wedding will continue." They looked at me as if they couldn't believe me. Here I am again with the complete squad at a restaurant. It's Nin's treat and she herself insisted on it. She said that she made a lot of money last month so she took it as an opportunity to treat us. Or maybe that's not really the reason. "What are you saying? You're just newly engaged but you're going to break up? Do you really love each other?" Jerich asked one after another and I just sighed. My head hurts again. Plus the fact that Patry hasn’t spoken to me politely until now and he’s really stubborn! I was trying to convince him to have a serious talk about our wedding plans but he didn't want us to go back to the wedding planner that Mommy G got. It's embarrassing for Emerson because he walked out that day and didn’t come back. I can’t really understand his attitude anymore! "They have opposite interests. They can't agree on one option and my brother doesn't
