Alice could see desire in Elijah’s eyes, and she wanted to gouge his eyes out for that. He grinned innocently as the woman took her seat, wearing a straight face.
"Why are you doing this?" She didn’t beat around the bush, but the man ignored her and called for the waiter.
She looked at him dead in the eye when he asked what he wanted to eat, but Elijah simply shrugged and ordered himself.
"I also ordered for you. Don’t worry, I have an exquisite palette. " His eyes went straight to her neck. It glimmered crimson for a split second.
Alice glared at him after the waiter left. The restaurant is spacious, and every table has its own section, so the people could have the privacy that Alice used to interrogate him.
"Let’s cut this crap. Tell me, why are you doing this? Do you really have a death wish? " She was more than willing to kill the vampire if there was one.
The vampire shrugged, "You were the one trying to find me. Shouldn’t I be the one who’s asking you why? " He threw back the question without blinking.
"You’re misinterpreting the situation. You weren’t supposed to be in that place, at least according to our data. I was curious that another vampire showed up. Too bad, we were only prepared to kill one vampire that day." She smiled this time, trying to taunt the vampire while keeping her heartbeat stable. This is part of their training, to lie without being discovered. Vampires have heightened senses and can hear the slightest sound and sense if a human is lying through their heartbeat.
He grinned knowingly but didn’t react further. The food was served, and they ate in silence, or at least only Elijah seems to be enjoying the food while Alice is busy glaring at the man.
"You didn’t answer my question." Alice demanded this time. She came here either to get answers or to kill the vampire.
He smiled, "Why are you in a hurry? We still have a lot of time, besides-" Elijah couldn’t continue his words. He flinched, but that was it.
"Well, that was quite the temper." He looked at his hand with a fork deeply stabbed in it. He casually removed the fork, covered it with a napkin, and applied pressure to the wound. The white cloth is quickly soaked in blood.
Alice smiled sweetly and leaned toward him, "I’m not going to ask for the third time, not without a stake in your heart."
--
"That monster is hurting me, and you’re still siding with him?" Alice couldn’t believe that her mother was taking her new husband’s words over hers.
The woman took Alice’s hands and smiled, "You’re just not well, dear. Maybe you should rest. " Her tone was mellow, but it didn’t give any comfort to Alice. She pulled her hand away and looked at her own mother with disgust.
All these years, she never believed her when Alice told her that she remembered a lot of things; memories of other people that seemed to be hers too. She knew from the start that her mother thought that she wasn’t well. They made her drink several medications, but nothing worked until Alice realized what they were and stopped drinking them in secret.
But with this, she can’t accept that her mother chose to believe a stranger over her daughter.
She withdrew her hand forcefully. Her hands were shaking in anger and betrayal. "So these bruises were all just my imagination too? I’m not who you think I am, mom. I’m not crazy like all of you are thinking. "
Alice slightly shook her head and strayed her eyes away from the family leaving the restaurant. She shouldn’t be reminiscing about her old problems when her biggest one is standing in front of her, grinning like a demon he was.
"Oh my goodness, is that blood? Sir, are you alright?" The waitress who brought the vampire's additional orders was taken aback when she saw his bleeding hand.
The vampire’s smile didn’t waver. His eyes focused on catching her gaze. This is how vampires compel their victims to easily submit and do whatever they want to.
"Don’t worry, it wasn’t serious, just a paper cut-" he lifted his hand after wiping away the blood, "see? All good. " The woman nodded, completely caught in his trance.
She started serving the food with a small smile, "Enjoy your food. Also, I should add, you two looked good as a couple." Alice’s eyes widened in disgust, while Elijah simply chuckled.
"You’re disgusting." She spoke from her heart.
His expression quickly changed with her reaction, "If you’re thinking that I compelled her to say that, you’re wrong. Compulsion doesn’t work like that. In fact, humans who are compelled tend to be very honest. Except, of course, if they were compelled to lie or to say something specifically. Shouldn’t a top-notch hunter know all of this? You seem to know more about my race than I do. "
Alice was having the urge to stab him again, but she didn’t want another compelled human. Instead, she rolled her eyes and looked at the vampire’s hand, which was already healed.
It was like a wake up call. She shouldn’t be like this. The vampire in front of her was the person who ruined her life and her previous ones. She shouldn’t be sitting around and pretending to eat lunch with him.
She stood and took her purse. Elijah also stood and promptly stopped her. His hand held her wrist tightly, just enough for the woman to stay still.
"Wait, don’t leave. You wanted to know why I approached you, right?" His voice almost sounded like pleading, but she knew that it was all an act. The vampire is trying to mess with her mind for whatever reason.
Alice was having recollections of her past again, and she withdrew her hand just like in the past.
"I don’t care anymore. You better prepare yourself too, because I wouldn’t hesitate to kill you if I saw you again. " She walked out of the restaurant and drove her way straight to their base. They didn’t have any operations today, but she still needed to go to report, and she preferred to be in their training field instead of being alone in her house. She needed a distraction away from her messed up thoughts.
--
"Alice missed the target. That’s new. " She rolled her eyes and continued her training. This time, every bullet hit the target; every shot hit the critical areas.
She removed the headphones and turned to Karina, "Why are you even here at this hour?"
It was the woman’s turn to roll her eyes. She wasn’t exactly pleased to be at the base at this hour either.
"Thanks to one hard headed hunter, I was requested to babysit. Seriously, Alice, what is wrong with you? Why did you suddenly burst out to our intelligence team and insist on getting access? " Her eyes are full of more questions, questions that Alice wouldn’t answer. Especially knowing that Elijah easily got into her team for information.
Karina put on her headphones after figuring that Alice wouldn’t talk.
"This is for me, waking up so early for the person who doesn’t deserve it." She hit the head of the target board three times in a row. Alice was well aware that she was referring to her, but the she doesn't really mind. It’s much better for them to think that she was just a desolate and stubborn woman than to drag them into the mess she has been involved in for god knows how many years.
"Talk to Black Lotus because, I swear, you don’t want a sleep deprived me in your missions. "
Alice had no choice but to face their leader once again. She was quietly sitting at her desk when she entered. The woman was busy with all the paperwork she had to process. She looked stressed as well.
"The mighty Black Lotus is being beaten up by paper works. It’s fun to see. " She taunted the woman, just to get back at her for hiding the truth.
Clarisse lifted her head and glared at Alice, but the latter only chuckled.
"I guess you’re done with your loathing phase?" Alice’s smile grew wider, and somehow, it was scaring the older hunter.
"On the contrary, the loathing would continue if you kept sending baby sitters along the way. Did you know how easy it was for that vampire to mess around in their heads? " She sat as she revealed what happened.
"That vampire did what?"
Her expression suddenly changed. Alice has been in the organization for seven years and received personal training from Black Lotus herself. She knew how to push her buttons as much as the older woman knew hers.
Elijah felt a sudden gust of wind inside his house. He didn’t pay much attention to it until someone tried to attack him. He was faster and didn’t break a sweat, catching the culprit by the neck.He grinned upon seeing his blood servant grinning at him despite being strangled. The younger vampire, in the body of a rather skinny teenager, struggled with his strong hold. Elijah is starting to regret saving the child."Who told you to sneak up on me?" His eyes glimmered in the dark. The sun is still up, and any sun seeping inside is dangerous for vampires that can’t withstand the sun.The younger vampire hissed, "And who told you to go after her when you said she was a hunter in this life?" Allen complained as his master let go of him. His eyes were still glowing in anger, not because of the pain but because of his master's being careless for the nth time.Elijah clicked his tongue, "Aren’t I the master here? Why are you the one scolding me? " He complained and sat on the couch. His eyes
Alice checked her things before leaving the headquarters. The moon was already up, and she decided to go for a hunt. Hunters usually never do hunts alone, but mostly with three people or at least a partner. But Alice is always an exception. She had a bad history of leaving her partners and going on her own way until Black Lotus just let her be instead of being everyone’s source of stress. "Block my way again, and I will break a rib or two." Carl didn’t flinch and kept using his over six foot frame to block the way. He was worried about what was happening to Alice, and so were the other people in their team. The woman rolled her eyes and walked to the side, but Carl blocked her again. She glared at the man and then punched him. Carl managed to catch her hand, but the woman was fast enough to make a counterattack. He ended up on the ground writhing in pain, holding his crotch. "I told you not to block my way. I’m not in a good mood." She picked up her bag and left. She passed Art on
Allen gasped in pain. His master took out the bullet in his chest with a swift move. He catches his breath while his body does its thing to survive. He was healing slowly, but he was out of danger."I’m sorry." He promptly apologized and shivered, knowing that the man was dangerously furious right now.He gasped for the second time. The older vampire took him by the neck, his hands digging their way into his flesh. The blood servant helplessly tried to inhale air."You could have died, you idiot! You weren’t supposed to die before me. " Elijah’s eyes were glowing with anger. Allen didn’t budge, knowing that the vampire was just angry because of his rash actions.Elijah’s hold on him slowly loosened. He collapsed on the couch beside his blood servant. He didn’t intend on hurting him further when he was already injured, but Allen had been with him for more than 200 years. He was his only family, and the thought of him dying scared the hell out of him.The blood servant was still heaving.
Black Lotus looked at Alice with curious eyes. She didn’t know if she should ask or not, but Alice beat her into it. "If you want to say something, then do it already." Alice gave her report and sat down. She preferred to be out, but she needed to talk to her mentor. She heaved a sigh while thinking that Alice would never change. She taught her to be stronger, but the woman was already strong enough even before they met. She would have survived without her in any case. "You looked hammered, and so did Karina and Arianne. When I said to train your team, I didn’t say to give the kid a hangover. " She pointed this out with a sarcastic smile. Alice crossed her arms, leaning her back against the chair in a lazy manner. "It wasn’t my fault, okay? I went there alone, trying to drink my misery away, but those pesky people planted a tracking device, which wasn’t so obvious by the way," She rolled her eyes, "So yeah, it wasn’t my fault." Black Lotus imitated her annoyed look and answered,
Alice woke up in an unknown place. She was alarmed at first, but the serenity of the place made her heart at peace. It was odd, because she shouldn’t be here. She doesn’t even know where she is! The woman walked around, looking for anything that looked familiar, but all she saw were trees and more trees. The sun was brightly up and surprisingly irritating to her a bit. It wasn’t exactly hot, but she didn’t feel comfortable walking around either, especially since she was barefoot. "Why am I walking around without shoes on?" She asked herself, slowly gaining some consciousness of where she was and what was happening. She tried to find a huge shade to hide herself from the sun. She struggled to recall which of her previous lives she was in, but she was certain she hadn't seen this one yet. "At least this wasn’t a nightmare." She sat on the ground, not minding the dirt getting on her dress. She hugged her knees. Alice had never felt this comfortable in a dream before. It was serene, b
The streaks of wind hit her as she speed towards the location where the signal was sent. Her heart was pounding fast and loud. It was emotions she hasn't felt in a while, back when she still let herself to care about others. "Alice, where are you?" It was Carl’s voice from the ear piece. It was automatically connected to all members after someone sends the distress signal. She could hear engines from the background. The others are probably on their way too. Hopefully, they could still see Arianne alive. "I’m on my way." She avoided the question and sped up. If vampires get to her, then they must hurry. Alice bit her lower lip in anguish. She shouldn’t have gone this far if she knew that something like this would happen. Out of all days, why it has to be today that someone in her team needed help. She arrived at the location and everyone was already crowded at one side. Karina looked at her with worry in her eyes. She handed Alice Arianne’s phone, which remained on the page of the
Alice didn’t even lift her head. She was busy loading bullets into her gun. "First of all, I didn’t force anyone in here. Second, we won’t turn this vehicle back just because you yelled at us. "She lifted her head and looked at Black Lotus with a straight face, "You made me this group’s leader despite knowing my impulses. Now let me protect my group. "Clarisse heaved a sigh, "Fine. But please be careful. The backup is already on its way. " She would have gone herself too, but she was currently out of the country. She left for a day, and something bad had already happened."Thank you." Alice answered. The screen turned off automatically after Black Lotus ended the video call. The van stopped close to a desolate building."We’re here."A man finally opened up after Karina banged on the door three times with the actual intention of breaking it."What the hell—" He stopped cursing as soon as she saw the woman.Karina put on her best smile and acted relieved, "Oh my god, I’m so sorry that
The woman nodded, "Yes. Long story short, you did something dumb, and we did something dumber, and now we're here to save you. Just stay awake, okay? " She lifted her colleague up, and they struggled to continue walking towards the outside of the room, but a vampire blocked their way."Do you think we would just let you get away?!" Alice shot her again, but the vampire easily dodged the attack. She let Arianne sit on the bed and took out her dagger. She was already out of bullets, but she wouldn’t go down without a fight."Run..." Arianne mumbled while trying hard to keep herself awake. It made her more dizzy, but it was the least of her concerns right now.Alice clicked her tongue as a response, "And what, leave you here? Not going to happen."The vampire laughed at her blind acts of bravery. Alice wasn’t fazed by the vampire’s taunt. She took out another knife placed on her strap and aimed perfectly at the chest of the vampire, only that the man caught the knife."Do you really thin
"Why are we called here?" Klaver asked as he arrived late and had no idea why they were called by Black Lotus again. Karina shrugged, "Not sure. Maybe we’ll get a new mission?" They all went inside Clarisse’s office with anticipation. None of them did anything wrong lately, so they were confident that they were not here to be scolded by their head. Clarisse took a moment to look at each of them. They even held a birthday party for Alice and Carl the other day. She saw how happy they were. It’s just a shame that Alice couldn’t live as a human, even if their circumstances had already changed. "Did we mess up again? Please don’t tell me we’d have to attend trainee classes again." Art spoke up after he couldn’t take the silence anymore. She smiled, "No. Unless you did something else I wasn’t aware of." "We haven’t broken any rules… lately." Carl promptly answered as he was tired of being reprimanded. She pointed at the envelope Alice left for her group, "I called you guys to give yo
"You need to feed." Elijah kept looking at Alice. She was pale as she refused to drink any human blood. Louise continued to alternately look at Alice and Elijah. Alice was his enemy one moment, and now she appears in their house as a vampire. She demanded to join Elijah in fighting off the purebloods, which Louise still thinks is a suicide mission, but he has no abilities to stop his master or Alice. "I’m still Alice, and my hunter pride is still intact. I’ve been alive longer than you think. I could handle this." She simply refuses to drink human blood, even if everything in her is screaming to feed. Unfortunately, even a human soul couldn’t maintain her body as a human. Her body naturally went back to its natural form right after her mind fully awakened. Her abilities came back to her almost immediately. "Why are you insisting on coming anyway?" Elijah doesn’t know how he would treat Alice now. He remembers everything, along with all the feelings that he shared with Alathea. They
"Alice, Alice, wake up." Elijah had already gotten the location from Black Lotus and also received the blood flowers he requested. He was on his way to the given location when he felt a very ominous feeling. Instead, he rushed his way towards Alice’s house and found her unconscious with the charm he had gifted her on the ground. He checked if she was still breathing before lifting her towards the bed. Elijah has been trying to wake him up for five minutes straight, but to no avail. By experience, she looked like she was remembering her memories again. He doubts that the doctors would find anything wrong if he brought her to the hospital. "Alice!" He exclaimed and finally opened her eyes, and Elijah saw her eyes turn red, as of a vampire. She gasped and lifted herself from the bed. Elijah was staring at her with complete shock in his eyes. "Who the hell turned you into a vampire?!" There was fear in his eyes. He had killed all of her past lives, but now that he didn’t have to kill h
Humans either worshiped or feared them. They called them gods, not knowing that their belief was the one that strengthened them. At the same time, losing belief in creatures like her greatly weakens them. The more people forget about them, the sooner they cease to exist. She has existed for thousands of years. Time was fleeting, and so many things have changed over time. Her existence was fueled, not by belief but by fear. No one knows what she truly was, unlike other "gods" that humans have encountered. Instead, she was born out of fear of the unknown. It morphed in her over time until she developed a taste for human blood. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t stop what she had become, like all the monsters they had imagined. Before she knew it, she became a creature that survived on human blood and fear, and yet she still fights for her own instincts whenever she can. Alathea, or at least that is what she calls herself at the present time, quickly walked on a shade to protect herself
"Why am I called at such an ungodly hour?" She complained as she entered Clarisse’s office. Black Lotus didn’t tell her the reason why she was hailed, but she hoped that it was for a great purpose. "Alice, why are you here early?" Carl asked with curious eyes. "I was called by Black Lotus. Why are you here too?" She threw back the question. Carl pointed at Clarisse’s office, "She called me too. What is up? She didn’t tell me what this was about." Alice didn’t answer and walked ahead. She was now certain that it wasn’t about Elijah. Carl wouldn’t be called if it was. "Wait for me!" He exclaimed and caught up. They both entered the office and were welcomed by on of Clarisse’s secretary. She pointed at the door, "She’s been expecting you. Feel free to head inside." Alice immediately figured out that something was happening. Still, she went ahead and opened the door. "Happy birthday!" She heard party poppers and confetti flying over her and Carl. Alice looked at them with utter co
Alice went home with a heavy heart. She had had a bad feeling since earlier. It has been a bit peaceful after the incident of them being ambushed by the old gang members of their old enemy, but deep inside her, she knew that something bad would happen. She dismissed the worry, wishing that it was just her being paranoid. Elijah already killed the newborns but the pureblood who turned the humans was still alive. "Two of them were thrown in a dumpster, and the other one was just left on the streets." She recalled the report she heard earlier. Three of their hunters were killed relentlessly by different vampires, whom she assumes were pureblood vampires. The hunters that were disposed of in the dumpster like trash were killed by a woman, while the other one was killed by another vampire. None of them were the purebloods she saw last time, but they all thought the same after seeing the footage of how the hunters were killed. It was impossible that it had been done by a newborn vampire.
Allen let out an annoyed groan after he had just pulled Louise out of the scene when he saw hunters hovering near them. Louise was still out of it because of the high of the bloodlust still rushing to every fiber of his being. "What was happening?" Louise asked. His voice is deeper than usual, but he is slowly gaining consciousness about what is happening. He clicked his tongue, "Idiot. You almost got killed. Wipe that blood off your mouth." Louise’s eyes widened, and he felt more sober after what he heard. He touched his face and realized that Allen was right about the blood on his lips. There was something about blood that the vampire’s body was constantly craving; no matter how much they consumed, it would never be enough. That is why he doesn’t even realize that he is covered in blood as his body casually hangs on for that connection. He promptly wiped his mouth clean and used all the concentration he had to calm himself. They couldn’t walk around with his eyes glowing, and he
"Why are you all here?" Alice complained after seeing the rest of her old team. Art laughed awkwardly. "You didn’t check the notice again, didn’t you?" "What was it about?" She didn’t deny it at all. It was true that she didn’t bother reading it. Carl shakes his head. He was starting to wonder how Alice hadn’t gotten herself into any danger because of her carelessness. "We were set out as a group again. Because of what happened yesterday, we were advised to be careful just in case they were planning any group attacks." Kate was the one who explained the situation. Alice frowned and was about to leave, but Karina quickly managed to stop her. "Anyone is expected to follow the notice, and was told that anyone who would abandon their group will be suspended indefinitely. I think Black Lotus added that part just for you." Alice’s smile was oozing with sarcasm, but she had no choice but to follow them around. It took them an hour to find a vampire, and it wasn’t even a newborn. Elijah
She practiced her aim and poured her heart out while running. This time, she got the rest she wanted, and no one randomly appeared to bother her training. There were trainees who saw her, but no one dared approach her. She realized that they were put into self-training because there were no availability of trainers. It has never happened before when she was still training. If one of their trainers wasn’t around, there would always be someone who would step up to help. They never got to idle like that, and it somehow worried her. She shook her head. "What would be our future with these kids?" Alice couldn’t help but sigh after watching them from a short distance. She wasn’t expecting everyone to have perfect aim, but they were just bad. Alice couldn’t take it anymore and finally stepped up to help them. They all tensed up when Alice suddenly approached them, but she quickly told them that she simply couldn’t take watching them. "Skills are useless if your stance sucks. You’ll always
