CHAPTER 56: POISONOUS ARROWS

Zahra's Pov.

Dashiell and I watched keenly as Gotham and Blazer dug the shovel into the ground. The night air was chilly and serene, as the only sounds we could hear were the frogs croaking and the soft thud of dirt hitting dirt.

My mother was Muslim, and she followed the rules of Islam better than she followed the rules of good living, and it would be best if we respected her religion and buried her the day she died.

I didn't like Ummi at all. I wasn't sure of any moment in the past when I felt like my mother was there for me. But, she didn't deserve to die by someone else's hands.

If I were being honest with myself, she didn't deserve to die at all. At least, not yet.

As the hole deepened, I heaved a sigh, my eyes darting over to the corner where my mother's body was wrapped binded a white shroud with tiny white ropes which binded the cloth together.

"Well, she had to die at some point," I mumbled and looked at Dashiell, a smile appearing on my lips.
