chapter twenty four

As Isla's best friend and cousin, I was devastated when I read the results of her tests. Leukemia. The word echoed in my head, a dark and ominous cloud looming over everything. I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes, but I held them back, not wanting to add to Isla's distress.

I knew Isla was a fighter, but the news was still heavy. It was difficult to process the fact that my cousin was facing a serious illness. All I wanted to do was hold her and tell her that everything was going to be okay, even though I knew deep down that it wasn't going to be that easy.

But I also knew that Isla was a strong person and that she had a lot of people who loved and cared for her. I vowed to be there for her every step of the way, no matter what the future held.

I sat there, feeling helpless as I listened to Isla's sobs coming from the other side of the door. My heart ached for her, and I wished that there was something I could do to take away her pain.
