chapter seventy eight

I picked up the phone and heard Red's voice on the other end. He sounded subdued and serious, not his usual upbeat self.

As we talked, Red confided in me that he was worried about Max. He missed her a lot and was concerned that their friendship was drifting apart because of him. I could sense the sadness in Red's voice as he spoke.

Red also revealed that he was scared to take the next step in their friendship. He was afraid of falling harder for Max and potentially ruining their relationship. I could hear the vulnerability in Red's voice as he shared his feelings.

I listened carefully and tried to offer some words of encouragement. I reminded Red of how important Max was to him and how much their friendship meant. I also encouraged him to be honest with Max about his feelings, even if it was scary.

I could tell that Red was still hesitant, but I hoped that my words had provided some comfort. I promised to be there for him and to support him no matter what.
