After leaving the twin’s bedroom, Sierra went to the sink to wash her face. She felt like exploding at any moment when hearing that name again. “How did he know? She said the man was dead… That bastard sounded like he knew that she was pregnant and they had children,” she mumbled, reminiscing the past.
“So, who’s the father?” Sherly, the second of the triplet asked the eldest, Stella. “You’re not going to tell us that you got pregnant by yourself, are you?” She glared at her while waiting for her response.
Stella clenched her fists but said nothing, making Sherly more frustrated. “Come on, Sis! It’s not like we’re going to kick you out of the house now that you’re pregnant just right before graduation,” Sherly said in a sarcastic tone. They were all shocked when Stella announce that she was pregnant. She had hidden her baby bump for quite a while and none of them noticed until she told them about it.
“Sherly, that’s enough. You’re scaring her,” Sierra joined in, scolding her sister who was on the verge of crying.
“She got pregnant, Sierra! The one who told us not to date until college got pregnant and she won’t tell who’s the father!” Sherly dropped to the floor and cried. “How could I find that bastard and beat him to death if I don’t even know his name, huh?”
“Alright. I understand but you don’t have to beat him,” Sierra said, handing a glass of water to Sherly who couldn’t stop crying. “Drink this. You can’t talk to her like that, Sherly. You’re scaring her,” she added.
“Thanks, Sierra. But you guys don’t have to worry about it,” Stella finally spoke. “He’s gone.”
“What do you mean he’s gone?” Sierra asked. The three of them were attending the same high school and were spending most of their time together. They never saw Stella going out with a man before nor she talked about having a crush on someone. It was only natural they were shocked to find out she was with a baby when there were no obvious signs.
“He’s dead,” Stella said. “I wouldn’t have to hide it from you if he wasn’t. I mean… I was the one who told you not to see anyone and yet I got pregnant and the man who did it was gone. I’m sorry for disappointing you,” she cried.
After that, their father came from work and just like Sherly, he almost collapse when he heard the news. Sierra could never forget those moments. She could still hear her sister’s voice as she told them that the twin’s father was dead. If that were the case, why would someone mistake her for Stella? She didn’t tell him her name but when she said she was London’s mother, the man assumed that she was Stella.
“Oh, Sis. What are you hiding?” It was then that Sierra realized that she didn’t know much about the children’s father. When Stella gave birth to the twins, she left for another city to work, leaving London and Paris to their grandfather’s care.
“Mom?” Speaking of the twins, Paris walked into the kitchen as she yawned. She spread her arms in front of Sierra, asking for a hug. “Are you alright?” She asked, wiping her face with her small hand. “You’re crying.”
Sierra panicked. She was immersed in her thought that she didn’t notice it. She thought that moving from her hometown would help her to start a new life with the children after losing her family but the tragic memory from the past still made her heart broken whenever she think of it.
“I’m fine, honey.” Sierra lifted the girl and rubbed her back. “Mom’s fine,” she repeated to assure her. Sierra knew that the day would come for the children to ask about their father and since she knew nothing about them… She was afraid she had nothing much to tell them.
When Stella was still alive, she was working in the other city and barely go home to see the children. Sierra had no plans to be the kids’ mother but when they saw her when she visited the shelter where they stayed along with other survivors after the fire, the twins ran to her with tears while calling her ‘Mom’. It was not surprising as she shared the same face as Stella, being one of the triplets. Sierra didn’t have the heart to tell the kids that their mother had left them nor to be honest with them that she wasn’t Stella but Stella’s sister. At that very moment, she assumed the position of their mother and it took her some time to get used to being called their ‘Mom’.
“Oh! I almost forgot, Mom. I came to tell you about Gabby. He wet his pants again,” Paris informed while making a funny face. “I keep telling him to hold it in but he won’t listen to me,” she added, sounding frustrated.
Sierra couldn’t help but laugh. Although Paris had a lot to say about Gabby, she knew that the little girl cared for him. Well, it was like seeing her sister, Stella as Paris, while Gabby was like the boy version of her sister, Sherly. “Alright! Let’s go and get him changed. After that, I will have to go back to work so you should play with Gabby for a while, is that fine with you?”
Paris nodded her head. “I’ll be his Momma for today. But it’s not going to be my fault if he starts crying,” she stated.
“But honey, Moms don’t want their babies crying. So, try not to make him cry, okay?”
“There you go— warm and comfy!” Sierra smiled at the giggling Gabby after changing his diapers. She wiped her sweat with the back of her arm and stood up. "I will go back to the living room to work. Call me if anything happens, alright?"
“Yes, Mom.” The twins replied while Gabby continued to giggle, making Sierra smile.
Sierra made her way back to the living room, ready to continue working on the unfinished dress. However, her mind kept wandering off thinking about the children's father. She stopped and looked at the box filled with her sisters' things. Her fingers trembled as she rummaged through it, looking for any clues that could help her understand who their father was.
When she found her sister Stella's diary, she thought it would contain the information she needed to know. However, she couldn't find the courage to open it and read what was written there.
Sierra sighed heavily as she put the diary back inside the box before getting up to find the unfinished dress again. She knew that if only she had the time, she could have done so much more to find out who the kids' father really was - but for now, all she could do was make sure they were safe and well taken care of by looking after them like her own children - which was exactly what they were becoming in her eyes already. She smiled as she picked up some fabric and continued sewing the dress while letting thoughts of finding out more about the children's father fill her mind with hope and determination.
“But what if…” Sierra mumbled to herself. Se couldn’t brush off her thought about the man London was talking to. Worried. Sierra got up again and decided to confront the boy. She needed to know how and when London started talking to that man called Mr. Bennett. Somehow, she had a bad feeling about that man. Besides, if Mr. Bennett ever turned out to be the twin’s father, Sierra didn’t know what to do next.
Clenching her fists, Sierra pursed her lips. “No. A man who abandoned the woman after getting her pregnant doesn’t have the right to go around acting mighty and bossy,” she said, recalling how Mr. Bennett mocked her while calling her ‘Stella’. “I just hope my sister didn’t fall in love with that kind of man!”
“Why not, Mom? Mr. Bennett fulfilled his promise so why won’t you use it?” London asked. The boy was delighted when Mr. Bennett kept his word about making a website for Sierra’s online business but the latter didn’t want to use it. Sierra had no plans to be involved with Mr. Bennett and she wished London feel the same but the boy was more than just interested in the man she doubted he even met in person. “I’ve checked it. It’s really good. He said the themes can be changed whenever you wanted,” he added. “Shall we try it out for a week at least?”Sierra sighed. “Honey, I don’t think it’s okay. What if he got access to it too and tampered with our business?” Although that wasn’t Sierra’s main concern, she just felt uncomfortable getting help from someone who accused her— her sister rather, of using the child to sponge off him. “You don’t have to worry about the website. I think I can manage to make one on my own. I mean, he wouldn’t do it for free, would he?”London’s face dropped. “He
Sierra kept tossing and turning in bed. She couldn’t sleep. Turning to the side, she checked the time and sighed. It was already midnight and she hadn’t slept for a wink. “What should I do?” She asked herself, pondering about the children’s fathers. She didn’t think much about it at first believing that the men who impregnated her sisters were said to be dead. Although she didn’t believe it when both Stella and Sherly claimed that their children’s father was dead, she left it at that.“It’s challenging enough to raise children and now I have to worry about their fathers? I felt like pulling your hair, Sisters.” Sierra groaned as she covered her eyes with the back of her arms. A few seconds later, she was sobbing. She missed her sisters. Sierra thought they suffered enough to be pregnant before having a stable job thus she tried to do her best and not to follow their path. In the end, she may not have gotten herself pregnant with her ex-boyfriend, but she became her sister’s children’s
Sierra glared at Mason as they sat in the living room. After what he did, she couldn't kick him out. Sierra wanted to find out more about the man and his relationship with her sister, Stella. Since Mason kept calling her 'Stella', she could tell that Stella didn't tell him anything about being one of the triplets. Sierra was desperate and would do anything to protect the children— be it from their father. Besides, she was also wondering why London was talking to Mason. The child seemed to treat the man as his friend."I didn't know you were pregnant," Mason started. His eyes wandered around the small living room. "Did you get married?"Sierra clenched her fist under the table. It was a good thing she sent the Twins to their bedroom with Gabby. “What do you want?” Sierra bravely asked. She didn't plan to pretend to be her sister, but she wanted to know what the man would say after finding out he left Stella pregnant. Of course, that was only her speculation. It couldn't be the case too
“What do you mean you're renting an apartment?”Sierra flinched when her friend— Astrid, bombarded her eardrums as soon as she answered the call. After her encounter with Mason, Sierra couldn’t calm down. That was when she decided to check on her friend and have a casual chat to divert her thoughts. And like always, Astrid’s greeting was loud and full of energy.Sierra took a deep breath while thinking of the safest reply she could ever come up with. Knowing Astrid, Sierra was afraid the former would drag them out of the apartment to stay with her instead. “Things happen and the kids love the place too,” she responded after a careful analysis. As Sierra's only and best friend, Astrid cared a lot for her. In fact, the latter was quite proud to be her friend. After all, Sierra was not the type to mingle with people. Astrid thought she was lucky to be friends with her after having several classes together back in college. In Astrid's eyes, Sierra was like a star that shines brightly at n
Sierra sighed as she watched Astrid drive. The latter was sweating cold while murmuring to herself. It was to be expected after she asked London what he wanted. The boy even said he wanted a Dad and Sierra could tell what Astrid had in her mind.“Don’t even think about dragging me on some blind dates you have scheduled beforehand,” Sierra said, shaking her head as she recalled the times Astrid tricked her just so she would go on a mixer.Astrid merely smiled in response, not saying a word as she kept driving. In the back of her mind, she was already developing a plan to make sure Sierra would date someone suitable for her.Half an hour later, they arrived at Astrid's place. She was living in a bungalow, with a large garden decorated with vibrant flowers and greenery. Bluebells lined the edges of the grass while lavender and marigold bloomed in different shades around them. At the center of it, all was a small fountain that gave off sparkling spray every few minutes, making for a tranq
The sun was setting down. Its golden light reflected through the car windows as Caleb drove Sierra and the kids home. In the backseat, little Gabby gurgled happily, clutching his favorite rattle. She was relieved that Astrid lent her to Caleb as she already installed a car seat for Gabby. While London and Paris remained quiet, immersed in their own world.Sierra sighed, exhaustion seeping into her bones. It had been a long day. Her plan to divert her mind from Mason actually led her to another problem—meeting her ex-boyfriend who dumped her, Caleb. She never thought they’d meet again and to think he thought she was married and had three kids over the years after their break up made Sierra more exhausted.“You okay?” Caleb asked, glancing at her with concern in his deep green eyes. “Just tired,” she replied.Caleb nodded, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. “Can I say something?” “I wonder what that is,” she replied coldly. Sierra studied his profile, noticing the tension in
‘What the heck?’ Mason thought as he recalled how Sierra shut the door in his face.“Did she really reject me?”He couldn’t believe ‘Stella’ would do that to him. When they were dating in secret, Stella used to cling to him which he loved about her. But things went awry when she announced her pregnancy the day before he planned to leave the town where they met.Stella was only 18 years old then, and he was yet to succeed in his father’s business. It was a crucial time for Mason and the news of having someone pregnant before marriage would greatly affect his position in the company, thus; he suggested aborting the babies, which ultimately caused a rift in his relationship with Stella. He couldn’t chase her when she ran away, which broke his heart. And years later, he received an email from Stella. It was more like a letter that contained the summary of her life after they got separated. In her email, Stella mentioned the twins and the names she gave them. Mason kept the email and treat
“Mom?”Paris’ tiny voice broke the tension in the air. The little girl was rubbing her eyes as she trudged to Sierra. “Gabby is hungry. I came to get him the milk,” she said and yawned.“Oh. Right, I’ll prepare his milk now—Ah!” Sierra screamed when she realized the baby bottle was destroyed. She looked up and glared at Mason. “Look what you’ve done,” she told him and opened the door. “I don’t have time to entertain any guest, especially an unwanted one so, leave.” She pushed him out of the door like last time. “Don’t ever come back here again.”Paris stared at the door after Sierra drove out Mason. She was curious who the man was but looking at how stressed Sierra seemed to be, the little girl didn’t ask.“Honey, you should go back to bed. I’ll find the extra bottle for Gabby so he would stop crying.” Sierra kissed Paris’ forehead. “Go ahead. Babies need to sleep more to grow up,” she said and gently ruffled her hair.“Mom! I’m not a baby.” Paris pouted. “Don’t you want me to help? I
