"My God, Bernardo, that's terrible. Is she okay?" I asked, feeling the anguish take over me.

Bernardo nodded with sadness. "She is recovering, but she was quite shaken by the incident. The police are investigating what happened, but we don't have much information yet."

I felt guilty and responsible for inviting Valentina to the party and for involving her in our affairs. The fear and concern for her took over me.

"I shouldn't have suggested that she come to the party. If she wasn't here, it would never have happened," I murmured, blaming myself.

Bernardo approached and put his hand gently on my shoulder. "Giulia, that's not your fault. What happened was an unjustifiable act of violence, and no one could have predicted it. Don't blame yourself for that."

But I couldn't help but feel responsible. I felt like I was bringing problems to people's lives on the farm, and that distressed me deeply.
