CHAPTER 17: THE FEELING'S MUTUAL

I didn't know what to say. I needed to finish my community service hours, but I ain't artistic and ain't got no talent for it.

"I don't know I-" She interrupts me again, tapping her foot impatiently.

"Before you say no, you'll get a record of your completed community service hours after helping organize school events," she says urgently, wringing her hands, her foot tapping impatiently.

I couldn't refuse. Not when I could really help her out. "Okay, I'll do it," I agree, and she nods, relief flooding her expression.

"Great, then I'll talk to your cheer coach about the plans, and we'll go from there," she adds, and I nod in agreement, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders.

"Now go to lunch. You don't want to be late or miss out on eating," she advises, smiling warmly as she takes out her lunch box, her relief evident.

"Thanks again, Ms. See you Friday," I say as I leave her class, offering her a grateful smile.

I put on my AirPods and start walking down the hall, checking my phone
