The nurse quickly inserted a new IV.

After everything was settled, Carl looked at Chris.

"Leave us."

Chris rubbed both his stomach and the arm Carl had grabbed. "This counts as a work injury!"

As the door closed, only Renee and Carl remained.

Renee came to her senses and tried to break free from his embrace.

But he held her firmly from behind, his warm chest unyielding, his dominating presence enveloping her.

His voice was deep and cold: "You knew she would come after you?"

"No. Uncle Carl, didn't you say I wasn't clever enough? How could I possibly understand others' intentions?" Renee said quietly.

"Still being stubborn?"

Sitting behind her, his expression and emotions were unreadable.

He simply pulled the blanket over them both.

His body warmth quickly heated the cold blanket.

Renee felt awkward but couldn't move.

The room fell silent except for the soft rustle of blankets, creating an intimate atmosphere.

After a moment, Renee gripped the blanket. "It was Annie."
