Renee felt uneasy under Carl's intense gaze and instinctively looked up at him.

His eyes swept over her face, finally resting on her lips. He could still feel the warmth from their earlier kiss, and his throat tightened.

"Your mouth only behaves in one situation," he said, his breath warm against her skin.

Renee instantly understood his meaning. But suddenly, a realization struck her, and anger flashed in her eyes.

"You tricked me! You're not drunk at all. There's no alcohol on your breath."

"You're catching on, but... it's too late," Carl said, glancing down at where he stood.

Renee realized he had already entered her apartment while she was distracted. By the time she came to her senses, he had calmly closed the door behind him.

There was no way to make him leave now.

"You jerk!" Renee grabbed the keys from the cabinet and threw them at him, hitting his shoulder.

Carl winced, his shoulder visibly sinking as if instinctively protecting itself.
