Marcus walked deeper into the woods and came to a stop when he was sure no one else was looking before stripping off his clothes and had them stuffed inside his backpack. The air was cold and blowing bitterly against his naked flesh as he stood butt naked with his head tipped back slightly and listening to the voice of nature around him.
He took a deep calming breath and allowed the burst of cold wind circled around him for another second more before getting in touch with his wolf. Within a couple of second, sound of bones cracking began to fill the atmosphere with furs spouting from under his tan skin in a matter of another nanoseconds before he finally shifted into a huge brown wolf and stood on all four.
He gave a low growl and shook his fur slightly like a wet puppy before proceeding to pick up his backpack within his huge canine.
If he wanted to cover the area faster and sniff her out, he needed to do it in his wolf form and not as a human.
Marcus hope to God not to run into anyone as it would really be a odd sight of a wolf seen with backpack running around in the middle of the woods.
Having a wolf with a bag pack might be an odd sight to anyone out there and might decide to take a few picture for the Gram but around here with supernatural creatures crawling back to town is a fucking big deal.
In recent times, wolves has been reported to be seen around town by the locals too many times to him and his brothers. Even though he hates to admit it, Marcus was certain, not only the vampires were returning. His kinds were returning as well but their reason for doing so is what he is yet to find out.
A supernatural war could be brewing right under their noses and they still won’t have an idea about it.
First thing first, he needed to save the woman he is certain was his mate and after that, he would have to figure out what exactly is bringing those other wolves to Town.
Marcus and his brothers have lived in that town for over ten years now, since they lost their parent and they were finally living a calm, and peaceful life, raising horses and cattle to earn enough to pay the bills and avoid the public eye.
Marcus was the Alpha and the most level headed among the three, yet none of the three had a lot of interest in mating and raising families of their own all these years.
They'd seen first hand the destruction people could unleash on shape shifters and decided to avoid the same history from repeating itself by sticking together as a three-man pack.
That very decision has worked just fine until this morning when Edwin Roland came with the news of a missing person only to have Marcus realizing she could be his mate the moment he inhaled her sweet scent.
Damn.
His brothers are not going to believe him. Heck, even Laura is likely not to believe him if he told her about the mate bond and stuff. That's, if he was even lucky enough to find her alive before that fucking vampire sink his blood sucking fangs into her.
His stomach churn uncomfortably at the thought of Lin actually doing something bad to Laura as he began to race further into the woods, his nose picking up her scent across the trail scattered around and following the one where it's most intense.
Without stopping to catch his breath even for a second, Marcus continued to race along, jumping between trees and fallen logs on the ground until he arrived at a path were her scent was the highest.
She was definitely close by. He could sense it from her scent as he came to a stop and continued to sniff the area more before following up the one he was beyond certain that will lead him to her without a doubt.
Anyone will certainly run away from him if he was to go to them in his wolf form and even worst carrying his bag pack between his canine. It was a horrid sight he was aware of.
Aside from that fact, Marcus was picking up movement a couple of distance from their location and from their conversation, he could tell they were the men Edwin told him about and not less than twelve of them and mostly headed his brothers direction.
Fuck
A cold chill went down his spine as he thought about his brothers running into those humans unknowingly and getting hit with bullets. Even though Edwin was with the group, he still wouldn’t want his brothers to be in harm ways for any reason in the world.
He decided to warn them just as quickly as he quickly mind linked them and it turns out they were planning to warn him as they had noticed them too and stayed out of their tracks already.
One of the thing Marcus loved about his brothers, they were not just family. They were team mates and always have each other backs even if they are not together. Since their parent passed, it has always been like that.
With his nose still sniffing her scent, he continued following her. Mostly up the way her trail ended , from all indication. This was the place where she'd wandered into an unknown area.
But Why? From what Edwin had said, she couldn’t have entered the woods just like that then why the hell did she wander off this far without a second thought unless she was running away from snakes to bears or fucking vampires.
Fucking Hell, Vampires.
Her smell was mostly blended in with trees and shrubs surrounding him which could also mean, she might have lost track of her path looking for something or maybe someone or whatever the case might have been that led her away and further into the unknown.
A few miles ahead, Marcus came to an abrupt halt when he sniffed a strange smell in the air.
Damnit.
It was exactly as he had feared.
Lin MacArthur has also been hot on her trail as well. He wondered if that jerk has had his way with her already and he was already too late.
Marcus was really going out of his mind at this point just thinking the very worst of the situation.
Without wasting another second, he continued to race along with adrenaline rushing through every fiber of him. He rather think her to still be alive than dead but then again if she was to be truly alive then he ought to find out why Lin had spared her and exactly what he could be up to.
Lin MacArthur is not known to spare anyone especially if she was all alone in the middle of the woods. That’s the kind of vulnerability he mostly pried on.
But then again, if the moon goddess has destined them to be mate then he can only hope for things to be in his favor not his.
What gave him more hope was in the fact that, there was no sign of blood or struggle anywhere further leading him to believe that Laura was still alive. All he needed was to get to her soon enough.
Her scent was scattered all over the place as he got closer but she was nowhere in sight still.
Where could she be.
Another thought crossed his mind and he came to an abrupt stop.
Maybe Lin was using her as bait and playing a sick game with him all along knowing that he'd come for her as soon as he realizes her to be his mate.
Fuck.
Marcus realized Lin could be using Laura as bait but still he wasn’t going to turn back now. He needed to go to her still.Marcus stopped for a moment and sniffed the air, her scent was still very much around there but she was still nowhere in sight. He growled in annoyance because it was difficult for him to figure out which way she went at that point. Marcus would have to more than just sniff the air to be able to figure out which direction she took next.Had Lin intentionally left her scent everywhere in order to leave him confused? Very likely. Marcus can only expect the worst from someone like Lin MacArthur. “Come on buddy, think outside the box” He heard Lucien voice in his head and growl.Lucien could be right. Now is the really the time to think outside the box and that means instead of thinking like a human in wolf form, he was thinking like a wolf in wolf form.Even in his wolf form, Marcus knew he had to think like a human because the more time he waste around, the more t
"It's okay. Everything will be fine. If you got this far then my guess is that, you walked each and every night? You must be tired if not Hungry?." Marcus had blurted out all at once.He is not one to stammer in front of another. Especially not in front of a woman but Laura had him acting like a teenage boy in love for the first time in his twenty nine years of existence.Maybe he is still a complete child after all.Werewolves are always known to be confident and in touch with their emotion but all that confidence thingy seems to have dissolved into air the moment he met his mate Laura. Laura couldn't help but snickered at Marcus nervousness and it was the best sound Marcus had heard in a long while if not his whole life."I can't exactly say am dying of hunger right now but I'm alright. I still have a bottle of water and a half eaten bar of chocolate in my bag if you want some" She offered and quickly began to reach for her bag to retrieve it but stopped half way by Marcus next wor
Marcus haven't let go of her hand since he took her by the hand in the middle of their work He couldn't release and the situation even demands he holds her hand without passing himself as possessive or anything. Aside from the urge to keep her close to himself, he always wanted to give her part of his warmth just in case she was freezing from the cold.Holding on to her thin, fragile fingers in his large and callused ones seems so unreal even to him. It was a strange feeling for him but from the little smile on her face, he could tell she was more than okay with their current situation to think about what his palm looked like and that he was grateful for. But then again, the feel of her soft skin against his was not really helping him. His already harden erection was growing by the second and he doesn't know how long he'd go before he exploded. With a huge visible bulge in his pant, he continued to lead her through fallen logs and mountain of snow covering the ground. Her safety wa
His movement was so swift that she fell right into his chest, their lips almost brushing when she looked up to face him. Marcus watched her suck in a deep breath as she came down from the high of the moment. The way her nipple was pressed against him, had his inside on a hot coal and he almost felt himself squirt.Fuck."Are you okay? You almost didn't see that one" Marcus said with a nervous chuckle."I'm sorry. I was just uhm, sort of distracted." She said with a sigh before looking down at her feet.Marcus could tell he made her nervous as much as she did him and that was good. It was a step closer. He was sure.Shortly afterward, they began to move again, this time in complete awkward silence before Marcus decided to break it with his next question."So, uhm, do you have like a_ " "_Boyfriend?" She quickly finished for him and he nodded."Yeah, do you have a boyfriend?"She shook her head slightly before looking back at him. "Sam and I are just friends. He tells me he likes me
Laura was deep in her own thought as they went. Its crazy to think that she just met this man and yet he had so handed her a compliment just as easily without a second thought.Something Sam couldn't do even though they had known each other since high school.Laura could tell he likes her and hell, she likes him too but then again, it's being barely hours since she opened her eyes and saw him. He is just so unreal. He knows how to say and do the right things. So much so that it frightened and excite her at the same time. The more she thought of him, the more the smile on her face grew until she couldn't hide it anymore. "What's so funny?" His voice had caught through her thought and pulling her to look back at him."Ah, it's nothing. I'm just thinking to myself""A penny for your thought then?"Her mouth parted and then closed before she shrugged it off."I'm just thinking how crazy it is that I had to be lost before finding someone who calls me pretty instead of hot or sexy""Well,
Without being told, Marcus knew all along that they were being followed hence his decision to keep moving. He was waiting for the perfect moment to show his face, Marcus knew it'd be best to use the same time to cover enough ground as well.Maybe he should have told Laura the truth a little sooner but still, there was no guarantee she wouldn’t have reacted the same way she did and now instead of trusting him to keep her safe, he took off running.Without thinking about the situation much, he quickly sprang into action, shredding his human skin just as quickly as he went chasing after her.Lin wasn’t far behind either as he moved with supernatural ease. He was suddenly in her way before she could even make it more than a few steps, halting Laura in her steps as well.“Not so fast darling. You and I are going to have a lot of fun tonight minus that nosy little boyfriend of yours” Lin said and Laura quickly took a step away from him.“He is not my boyfriend and I’m not going anywhere wit
As they walked on, Marcus realized, her steps were becoming slow as compared to when they first started out, so he decided to asked just to make sure she is fine."Laura are you ok?"She smiled, “I’m okay, just exhausted from the walk but I will be fine”"Do you want a ride? Like a piggy ride?" he asked nervously before adding, “its just a friendly offer though"She smiled and almost squealed yes! but then with his brothers just a step ahead of them, they might think something else had happened, so she put her emotions in check.“Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother seeing how stressed you have had to go through because of me”Marcus grabbed her hand, bringing them both to a quick stop as he turned her around to face him.“You’re never a bother to me, Laura and I can go to any length just for you so come on, just hop on" He said and bend before her knowing she won't probably refuse him as his offer will override the uneasiness his brothers were causing her especially stupid Jacks
On the drive back to her home. Laura couldn’t keep her mind from thinking about the kiss she shared with Marcus a while ago. It was the best kiss she has ever had and to think he is not even her boyfriend is another thing she couldn’t understand. She loved how he made her feel, every fiber of her being seem to respond to his touch. Maybe it was too soon to say she loved him, but one thing she couldn’t deny was the fact that, they connected so well even better than she had ever done with whatever existed between she and her ex Sam.Laura never thought a day like this would come but It was scary and at the same time fascinating, meeting someone for the very first time and connecting with them so well. Maybe they had met in their previous life before. Maybe that’s pretty much explains why they were met.Their car went over a bump, pulling her out of her train of thoughts as she turned to stare at Marcus. He has been awfully quiet and she could only imagine why. Laura really wished she co
Marcus stood at the door of his room watching Laura sleep. He bit his lips slightly as he watched her. There was an emptiness in his chest as he looked at her. He growled as he slid his fingers through his hair. He felt ashamed of his actions, and he wanted to correct them, but he hardly knew how to do that.Fine, he had been upset, but to hit Laura the way he had not once or twice had been borderline wrong. He slammed his hand on the wall in frustration. But, was it actually his fault? He couldn’t imagine anyone touching his mate, even if it were his brothers. It felt wrong on so many levels, and he hated it.“I…”Marcus turned around and his eyes met Laura’s. She was trying to sit up, and with the way her eyes went round when she noted that it was him, he knew she was sore afraid of him. This was not the type of partner he had imagined he was going to be to her. He had brought home an unwanted pregnancy, though he strongly believed that the baby was not his, but nevertheless, that
Jackson walked slowly out of the bathroom, only to stand at the doorway. It was evident he wanted to give her some privacy, yet not wanting her to be on her own, so he could be able to assist when she needed him.Laura was grateful for that. She waited for a while for her hormones to stabilize, and wondered slightly could be cause of it.Was she pregnant? She swallowed hard in shock. If she was pregnant, then she was going to be a mother. How could this happen right when she and Marcus were going through a rough patch? She barely had an answer to that question, but one thing was certain, she was not going to tell Marcus till she was sure that they were ready to be parents.Laura pulled herself up, and walked over to the washing basin once more, cleaning herself up. She would have to talk to Marcus, and hope for the best. Someone had to be the matured one in their relationship, and she decided to be just that.Lost in thoughts, Laura pulled away from the basin, and walked headlong onto
Laura stopped midway, her worry getting ahead of her. There was no way she was going to sleeping in that room. She would have to make sure that it never happens. It was something that she had to do, and she would do it. Ok, maybe she was being overdramatic, but Marcus needed to see that he was hurting her feelings. She went back into the room, and noted that he was back out. That was just right. He had come out because she had gone. The man. She barely looked at him as she walked over to her side of the bed, grabbed her pillow and made her way out of the room. She made sure that this time, that the door pulled from the hinges. Well, it didn’t do that though. But, she knew he flinched, and that was enough for her.“What does he think he is to keep doing this all the time?” She grumbled as she made her way down. “If he is already tired of me, why can’t he just say it. Instead, he keeps giving me some stupid cold attitude like he is a kid,” she grumbled. She took the stairs, two steps a
Marcus rolled on his side, hoping to grab Laura in bed, only for him to hit the floor with a thud. He gasped in shock, as he rose up from the floor in shock. What was that?Marcus let his eyes skim through the length and breadth of the bed, but he didn’t see any figure that remotely looked like Laura, and that sort of made him upset.Where could she had gone? His hands slowly slid to the back of his head, and he massaged the growing migraine. He wanted to hold Laura tight, and kiss her lips sporadically, but that wasn’t happening.Marcus groaned slightly as he made his way to his clothes, wearing them quickly. He had to find her, and give her that kiss. He walked out of the house, struck by how quiet the whole house was. “Laura,” he called, but received no response. Was she even at home? Of course, she was. Where else would she go this evening. He knew fully well that Laura wasn’t an outgoing person. She definitely liked to do things on her own, and didn’t like to go out much. It was
Laura blinked in horror as Jackson held onto his head. She was so scared and worried that something was going to happen to him. “Please, stop,” she cried. “Is someone home?” She screamed on top of her voice. She had barely finished speaking, when Jackson pulled Max up, dragging him, and then, pulling his head into the running water. Max was thrashing about and screaming, but Jackson wouldn’t let go.When Laura thought that the whole thing wouldn’t get any worse, Jackson was repeatedly banging Max head on the counter. She screamed for help and finally, some men came in from the door, and helped to separate the men.Max was bleeding profusely, but Jackson despite the pain of earlier, seemed like he had been a spectator in the fight. Though, his eyes were brutally cold, and filled with rage.“You son of a bitch, if I see your hands on Laura again, I’m going to make sure I cut it off. Don’t even dare with the Johnson’s or you would have yourselves to blame,” Jackson threatened.Laura wat
Laura couldn’t ignore the fear she felt no matter how hard she tried to. She had to leave this place. She placed as many portions of toast as she could in her plate, and ran up her room. She sat down, and went to the mini fridge in Marcus room, taking a glass of milk. Before sitting down, she realized she had not locked the door, and she did just that. Laura went back to her food, and ate as quickly as she could. She was still so scared, and hoped that Max would stat away from her. The last thing she needed was his unwarranted attention. She sighed as she drank her milk, and ate more of the toast. It was so delicious, and yummy. She wasn’t sure she could get enough of it. Ugh! So good. Lucien was definitely the best cook out of the brothers. Yes, she said it.She sighed, and slowly got up to her purse in other to take her phone. There might be some messages from her workplace, and mails too. Just because she was with Marcus now didn’t mean she would neglect that part of her life. Thou
Laura massaged her head slightly. Headaches. She slowly rose up from bed. She couldn’t believe she had slept back, knowing the type of awful dreams that greeted her. She was just so strange. She pulled at her hair and then, slowly made her eyes roam to the other side of the bed.Marcus wasn’t in bed. A frown tugged at Laura’s lips. He didn’t even make any effort. Jackson had said he had some ego issues thanks to Lin kidnapping her, but the least he could do was to kiss her good morning and make her feel nice. He didn’t need to do anything else. Why was this man like this?Anyway, it was no use to sit here and moan over his attitude. He wasn’t even home to complain too, so she just had to bear with it for the time being. “Ugh! So much for being a supportive mate,” she groaned.Marcus really needed someone to give him a hard reality check, because this ain’t it. What of her feelings? She had gotten a rude shock that he had impregnated some other woman, and at the same time, she got k
Laura stared at Max as he looked at them with his eyes beaded with suspicion. What was with the look? She or Jackson has not done anything inappropriate. She had just being resting on his shoulder. It was Max who always looked at her weirdly.“Did you something?” Jackson asked calmly.Max rose his hands up in defiance. “What could I possibly want?” He asked calmly.Laura looked at Jackson, and noted that his face was set in harsh lines. Jackson wasn’t also finding Max particularly lively. So, it wasn’t just her too.Max sighed. “Guys, relax. I was just joking. Well, I don’t want to disturb you, because you’re obviously occupied with stuffs,” he said with a voice that dripped heavily with sarcasm.“Thanks for your good natured worries, we don’t need it. I will advice you cut your tongue from slipping statements that are quite inappropriate,” Jackson snapped.Laura swallowed slightly. She honestly thought that was a weak comeback, but looking at Max, his slight smile had vanished. So, i
Laura walked slowly downstairs, and into the dark of the sitting room. Normally, she would be too scared to sit there, not after all she had gone through, but this time, she wanted to be on her own. She sat down on the couch, and pulled her legs under her. Without a pause, her eyes gushed out tears, and her lips quivered in respond. She placed a hand over mouth to not alert the house that she was crying, but slight whimpers slid through. It hurt so much.Marcus didn’t want her anymore. He was definitely in love with that woman, and was just lying to her. She felt so lost. Yes, people said sex wasn’t everything, but it was everything for her and her relationship. Marcus had never rejected her before, so what could be the matter? Why was she even asking this? It was literally evident that he was bored with her. She must have made him have so much losses, and he just wanted someone who wouldn’t come with emotional baggage. That was definitely the problem. She rocked herself back and fo
